1.
Perfect, this helps me quite a lot. I was a little afraid that a low-cut might have been in order with these, unless going FRFR for quite a lot of money is an option. At this point, a lightweight amp is probably the wisest choice. My original thinking in using a powered speaker was also very much informed by the fact that I tend to use a laptop and plugins all the time, so that perhaps going into something with a flatter response would have made sense, and would have allowed me to use it on guitar too. However, I see now that the tradeoff would probably be too big for it to be a convenient deal. Thanks a lot!
I'm not sure what your budget is, but in light of the extra details, I'd have to suggest the Barefaced FR800 - I'd have one Asap if I didn't have to flog some stuff right now.
 2. PA active cabinets will work - I mean, you can plug your bass in to them via the B3 and you'll be able to hear yourself as long as the rest of the band aren't too loud. Certainly the plastic box versions you have linked to will easily be swallowed up if the guitarist turns up with a 30W valve amp cranked. The other downside is that those PA cabinets aren't really designed to 'do' bass end. Great for vocals and the top end of keys maybe, but our bass frequencies require lots of energy to be heard (have girth etc) so you may be left for wanting unless it's only for monitoring purposes where you aren't bothered with not having low end.
 3.
Saw this and couldn't stop drooling http://thebassgaller...ision-1965.html
I opened the page and then saw a whole list of really tasty basses. I think I need to just close that down before I take a closer look at the '68 Tele bass... yes, nice basses indeed!
 4.
Having recently seen one of these for sale on the Cash Converters Website for under £400, I thought I'd check out the spec, but they are no longer on the Fender website, so I guess they are no longer made. Given that all the reviews i read about were very positive, I wonder why Fender would pull the plug on them after such a short time of manufacture (l'm guessing only 2 years and even shorter for the Squier version?). So were they really not a success? What do members think of them? Are they potentially a future classic or one to avoid?
Loved the Cabronita, but of all things, the pickup I'd have ended swapping out, which was it's selling point. I still keep an eye out for one going cheap but funds are never available when one comes up. The big fat neck, tele headstock and reverse tuners are very cool along with the high mass bridge. Having reviewed one, it was a thumbs up - maybe the Mike Dirnt sig is the nearest equivalent.
 5.
New vid up: https://www.youtube....h?v=2xoyTqYafMQ Shows off the features but tone-wise I have to say it's a little boxy. Probably this chaps tone and recording doesn't help. I had this thought when I A/B'd the Two Notes Le Bass and the normal Vintage Deluxe... the cab sim on the two notes gives it more 'heft'. (I did have the objective of replacing a rig with a pre-amp.) This looks good though if you've already got a rig with plenty of trouser-flappage and want to fine tune the grit on top.
You spotted 'Amazing Freatures' too!
 6. I think the obvious choice has been made then! Time to choose which model to go for!
 7.
Have the power amp racked and install a multitude of preamps and sound shapers on a pedalboard... every eventuality covered!
Yup, like this and actually exactly what I'm doing myself! I have a BH800 from TC Electronic for most stuff but when I wanna go big big, then I run a TC G-System and pedals in to a QSC power amp and then on to the previously mentioned Barefaced Big Twin II I can't wait to run two cabs for stereo, but there's no way I can afford another right now. Car needs a service...
 8.
In a PM? Bottom right hand side of the chat window
Only in the full view, not mobile device view though.
 9.
As above, where is the report button?
In a PM? Bottom right hand side of the chat window
 10.
Cheers Dood, I'm aiming to do a replica of my 74 bass that i sadly have to sell - I'll give them an email tomorrow.
No Problem! Happy to help!
 11. The four string NG-2 models come as standard with a B-E-A-D tuning and the scale length of the low B is a snip over 36". Furthermore, I will be reviewing the NG-2 four string tomorrow for a forthcoming article in Guitar Interactive Mag.
 12. Funnily, I replied to a post asking about fretless Precision necks - I'll give you the same answer. Get in touch with ShukerGuitars.co.uk. Stunning workmanship and will do you proud.
 13. bump £2280 shipped in a hard case. (mainland - extra for elsewhere)
 14. How many greatest drummers did the Rolling Stones have??? I'll get my coat.
 15. Just dropped an EMG PJ set in one of my favourite basses and I have to say, I love it even more now! Hooked up to a Glockenklang preamp it's a brilliant pairing. Big tone! Definitely recommend John East's kit though - he's a very talented chap!
 16.
The main point is surely that what matters is the end result - if it's a decent performance, what's the issue?
I never thought this post was gonna come ha ha ha!!! The issue is that the discussion has been done to death by a bunch of people who aren't out gigging tonight whilst a whole bunch are, and getting paid for it - and they're probably using a stand, for their music, their tablet or their pint.
 17.
Orchestra: fine Imagine Muse or Metallica with music stands. No.
Is that just because what we have been led to believe as 'the norm'?
 18.
You can get a machine that you load the pages into that flips them with a foot pedal.
Classical musicians have slaves by their feet. The stand hides them from the delicate public.
 19.
Thinking about it...there are not many successful/famous Steve Harris clones either.
or The Ox, JJ Burnell, John Deacon...
 20.
A good quality music stand like one below can double up as a laptop stand. The top part will lie back flat or at an angle with the lip stopping the lap top from sliding off. We use one for our PA mixer http://www.terralec....pi7AaAs9O8P8HAQ
I hope that the one I've used was a duff one! - The plastic screw fixtures are ok for lightweight gear but will slip when something heavy and expensive is used on it. Just wanted to say 'beware' just in case. If it's any help, the one I have linked to uses a similar mechanism to lock the angle that is used by heavy video camera tripod stands.
 21.
Cheers dood Shuker sounds good but also sounds expensive! I'll check him out now. Edit - ooo, £280 for a finished neck it seems! That would be doable. I'll ring Jon for a chat about it. Ta v much
That's a great price knowing what sort of quality Jon is well known for. Nice one!! No problem, Dood sends his regards!
 22.
Beyond awesome. Massive congratulations!
Yes, this congratulations. GO FOR IT!!!!!!
 23.
He has recorded hundreds of songs in dozens of bands and played over 4000 gigs. His style is rock bass playing which suits the songs he plays. Some people only watch his solos on youtube. Listen to any of the songs he recorded with DLR, or Mr. Big and see if you can hear a style which is "not usable". It's the same stuff that most of us play 90% of the time!
Gonna have to +1 that. The thing I've noticed and hopefully what I understand about the tone coming from Mr Sheehan's rig is that it is pre-shaped to be that sound that fits in the mix yet cuts through. Carries the low end but sits nicely with the guitars. You know, that thing which has been beaten to death in another discussion elsewhere on basschat. Much like many bass tones that sound great in the mix, it doesn't always sound that good solo'd. Or vice-versa for that matter!! In the track? superb. If there were any more need to describe this, you only have to check out 'isolated recordings' of some of our favourite bassists to hear what the bass tone alone lacks when it truly makes the track when accompanied.
 24.
There are no Billy Sheehan clones because Billy's playing is boring. Thanks for your definitive answer.
I sense a bit of cheeky trolling from our friend Visog ... It's just not a statement that can be backed up lol.
 25. Funnily, I've been talking to Fender USA about which of their precision necks are the chunkiest - but when it comes to wanting something truly massive? Well, go custom. I'd go to Jon at Shuker Guitars .co.uk who is well versed in making some really tasty necks!
