Bump up from the bottom of page 3!
  3.
Wish I could grab this from you bud. Not enough room in the stable for 3 basses though!
There's always space for one more! I'm sure we can find a way - ping me a message if you'd like to sort something out chap!
  4.
I seem to be on a slippery slope. This time last year I had no effects what do ever. Not even a tuner pedal... Built in tune in amp. I bought a Zoom b3 as an experiment last year... Couldn't get on with it. Too fiddly. So I bought a tuner, EBS multicomp and a multidrive from the for sale section of the forum. I enjoyed them so I bought a unichorus. I was offered a dha bass valvedrive so took it. Liked that for a while. Worked well in the house but not in the rehearsal room. Sold that. Bought a BassIQ envelope filter. No idea why!? Just fancied it. Only ever use it for playing Sir psycho sexy in the house as we don't play it in the band. In fact... I don't really use effects in the band at all other than a bit of light overdrive and use Chorus on one song . Which is why I have now bought a Two Notes Le Bass from the sale section??? And another boutique drive pedal off the 'Bay. I need stopping! I used to wonder why folks bothered with bass effects. They are a bit like musical heroin! Is there some kind of rehab subforum? I might need barred from the classified section
BassChat is like the Hotel California. I've had a room here Since the early days of BassWorld v.1and my bank account shows it!
  5.
I hear ya !! However, if we did not discuss such things, there would be no need for Basschat or other such forums. Enjoy your snooze.
Oh YES to discussion! For sure, that's why BassChat is here. Love it! Maybe I should have said I was going for a 'sit down' he he!!
  6. Sitting or standing, using a pick or fingers whilst plugged in to a D Class or valve amp using horizontal or vertically aligned speakers, having trouble deciding between 4 or 5 strings wondering if passive or active is the way forward - and what about this maple fretboard? I need to go lie down!
  7.
Buy a Shuker! ...or am I a few years late for that one?
It's never too late for a Shuker!
  8. I'm afraid I don't have any 'gear related' puns in response, but I have read this post with interest! I find it fascinating to see people taking an idea, even if it is slightly crazy or just well thought out and running with it. This is certainly a proper 'high mass' bridge! With regard to the melted blob bridge, this would certainly support my theory about cheap high mass bridges discussed in another thread. Sometimes, they had be big and hefty, certainly look the part, but instead are just made from a cast using some cheap material. I can't imagine they will sound as good as a chunk of brass - I wonder what an iron one sounds like in comparison!

And I suppose with a change of bridge it could be adjustable and that'd be a simple job for a tech.

It's fixed and according to the Dingwall page it's set to 18mm. I have to say I thought it was 17.5 all this time, the bass feels super fast!
  11. Here's a tip that will save much effort and will help if you practice or play sitting or standing: Sit down and set your strap length so that it's supporting the instrument when sat. When you stand up the bass will stay in the same position. Thus, all that hard work you put in to get your hands to play in a certain position isn't lost when you stand with the bass around your ankles! You may find that you will need to adjust a little bit - I'm quite tall and have a bad habit of slouching at my chair sometimes, so I have to teach myself to sit upright properly and that is where I set my strap length. After that you will find things more comfortable when switching between sitting or standing. Interestingly though, I still alway play better standing up! Try it, adjust the strap a bit up or down but don't stray too far away from the initial position IF you do lots of playing and practicing sat down. Keep things familiar and you'll notice aspects of your playing get better

  13. If you want a great plug in to load your IR's in to then I'd definitely recommend BIAS by Positive Grid. You can even 'profile' your amplifier set up in the app too so you always have 'your tone' on your machine ready to record!
  14. Just for information, the MB500 uses an Op-Amp preamp, the MB800 has an all FET preamp and of course the Fusion 800 has some valve goodness in there
  15. and bump for this brilliant interface too.
  16. Ball busting price drop. The best I can do here is £2100 PLUS shipping - or collect. That's a grand off the list price. A grand!! Edit: Price back up to £2200
Sorry to be the one to ask but what does it weigh please? Also what's the overall length? They look huge (and I'm small!) but I can't find any pics showing side by side comparison with a regular bass like a J or P. Thanks
Well, the scale here suggest an admirable 4.1Kg, which is ace. Remember there is no neck dive on these basses which means the discomfort on the shoulder of a normal bass (such as a five string Fender) is alleviated making the whole instrument feel much lighter too. Side by side to a Fender P, the nut of the P is inline with the first fret of the Combustion! - Meaning you only have an extra inch or so further to touch the nut of the Combustion. This is because the bridge is angled backward meaning the longer scale B string's low notes can be closer to you.

  20.
At that price it has to be worth a go. Those pickups are quite remarkable, very aggressive and open sounding, but the eq and switch make them very versatile.
For that price for sure. I am truly gobsmacked to see a £4300 bass going for £2800!
  21. Funnily, after getting back from a rehearsal tonight using a bass with new pickups and electronics in, I think I've found a great pairing for my Glock 3-band. A set of EMG PJ's - now my bass doesn't have the standard PJ positions to my eye so that may make a difference too. I had a Miller slap with a bit of Wimbish, but roll it back and I slipped in to Nate Watts territory. Very pleased! Pounding bass, not at all subby. Would like to give Barts a go again at some point but not really found a pairing I've really liked. 9J's sound great though.
  22. Well the good news is that Watford Valves do an SVT valve kit so if it ends up being just that you won't have any trouble sourcing the right valves for the job
  23.
Thanks I love my 36" but when I play in small pubs quite often & because of my height I've caught my singer in the back of he head & other objects ..never mind them but it knocks my tuners
With my headless, the clamp system I used to use (Jon is upgrading now), it would have six sharp string ends sticking out. I think I may have caught my singer's arm one too many times and now he makes me stand on the other side of the stage!
