Not just when selling musical equipment, but when selling anything, the question I hate the most is "What's the least you'll take for it?"
Or being really cheeky with a low-ball offer, which there are a few basschatters who are maybe guilty of and I'm not just talking the odd £20 here. It's frustrating enough when the market is so slow that you offer up an item at a vastly reduced price to sell. You think you are passing on the good community spirit, something I've always tried to do. Do unto others and all that kinda thing... hmmm!

Spouses, do they like or hate your instruments?
I don't think I could cope with a relationship with someone who was either actively or passively opposed to my playing in bands. {snip}
Well, once they've taken your self-belief and confidence, they might as well strike off your passion too. -
This nails it for me. Everyone has their own interests and foibles and trying to change or restrict a person seems a recipe for an early parting of the ways to me. Why would anyone want to do such a thing to someone they purport to love?
Indeed. I agree. -
So I put my Orange head and cab up for sale, here and Facebook. I mentioned in the advert that I was selling most of my backline because the band I've just joined don't want amps and cabs on stage. Might have something to do with an 8k rig, 7 PA speakers either side of the stage and 5 monitors. I got several responses on Facebook about "what sort of band doesn't have amps and cabs on stage"? A couple of the responses, you'd honestly think I had made it compulsory sacrifice of 1st borns. Am I missing something?
They are the sort of people who spend too much time commenting on YouTube videos.
Crikey. I always thought anything around 40Hz and below was like being rogered with God's mighty gut-jumbler.
Ha ha ha!!!!
You know when your eyes light up and your heart's lifted by a thread title; heft, punch, growl, utter bollox? Edit: describing sound is like trying to describe an orgasm.
Oomph, punch, heft, growl - yeah that's pretty much how I'd describe it lol On reflection, probably best not.
-
Where does Oomph start and end, then?
It ends before the Pah, Pah!
-
Then below that you get the pillowy low end cuddle of a 40hz boost!
-
I dunno, I'd put 'heft' at around 120Hz which is where the 'power' of a bass guitar lies, but 'punch' I'd place a bit higher up in the mids somewhere. Of course I have no idea what I'm talking about, as usual.
Oooh, I think I'd put heft in at 80hz shelving, maybe as low as 60hz.

what size kit does your drummer use/ sensible volume
Dood replied to bassjim's topic in General Discussion
I played with a very talented drummer for many years. He had a beautiful and massive gleaming white kit that sounded amazing. What was even better is that he knew what construction of kit would give an amazing sound but was actually quieter than a standard 'live' kit. His choices of heads and cymbals meant that he wasn't over powering the mix, but also when we balanced our on stage volume, it was never deafening. His technique was superb too and would have no problems controlling his volume around the kit either. Come to think of it, my current drummers(s) are amazing too! -
Punch is usually a boosted range of frequencies around the 100-150hz range that gives bass guitar notes mass, tonally speaking. It's not the same as everything below those frequencies which tends to be the real low end and down in to the subs, but it's a bit like the thump you get from a kick drum. Through a big PA at a gig, it's that feeling when the bass 'punches' you in the middle. That's how I'd describe it anyway.
It's not just a hobby to me, it influences every single day of my life. That isn't just playing, it is buying vinyl, going to see live bands, researching bands, bass, guitar, etc....the whole lot. {snip} No one should ever stop you doing something you love. Music is THE BEST stress reliever IMO, even beats running and exercise.
I just wanted to quote this, because that's me. Music, Guitars, Drums, Music Software, Electronics, Playing, Seeing people play, Learning Music, Teaching Music, Reviewing gear, Everything, EVERYTHING. I'm totally consumed by it and wanting to know more about it all. You are quite right, no one should stop you from doing something you love. Especially when it's what you do to keep a roof over the heads of your family. -
where are you dood? You're more than welcome to come and try my SH. I'm in Deal, Kent
Well that is a very kind offer indeed! I'm actually up near Norwich but my OH has friends in Kent. Should we be making it down your way and I'm allowed to break away for some bass time then that's an offer I'd love to take up! Thank you! -
Try a Classic 50s as well if you like a chunky neck!
I think, though I'm not sure, I want to stay around the 42mm nut width. Maybe I need to try more before making that a definite. Which is an odd thing as my 7 string is obviously massive in comparison. It's the string spacing in particular. -
.... I assumed it was about Basschat flavour of the month rather than popularity in the whole wide world.
;0) Keeping the love alive.
Well if you don't mind slumming it with a Squier there's a Mike Dirnt in Swaffham on one of the facebook selling pages .
Hey Painy! Yes, I'd spotted that one - I'm not sure if they have exactly the same necks. I suspect not. I've got a whole bunch of measurements from Fender but want to know what they feel like in hand ya see
