Bluetooth transmitter - earphones - bass monitoring onstage
Dood replied to mcnach's topic in General Discussion
Yes, latency is a problem for Bluetooth. 30ms mentioned in that article would drive me insane! Most multi-effects units of the digital variety are around 4ms. -
Who on Basschat has the most expensive bass?
Dood replied to Jonny Walker's topic in General Discussion
I have no idea how much mine would have cost, if I hadn't been Jon Shuker's rent boy for 3 years.
Blimey! Did I really say this?? Lol! I've had my 7 string for pretty much ten years now and I had a Shuker Elite 6 before then and I'm still a proud Shuker player. Speaking of prices though, it boggles me that you can get a bass made by Shuker and it will be as good as some twice the price. So I suspect in terms of cash alone, one won't be 'the most expensive bass on BassChat!' -

Anyone tried one? Experiences? I'm looking at 4" wide bass straps to take care of my 7 string. I've got my eye on one or two different offerings but this one just came up on my radar.

All the information you need is here: https://www.roland.co.uk/products/quad-capture/ Making way for a new interface, my rock solid Roland Quad Capture is up for sale. It has never left the house and I've used it for lots of recording and it has never missed a beat. I want some extra functionality that will mean upgrading and thus this one will need a new home. Web prices are around £150 which is squeezing me, but I can do £100. All drivers and manuals are available online. This is just the interface and if I have a spare, the USB cable too - yet they are pennies on eBay anyway! Drop me a line to chat and we'll go from there.
Well, my offer still stands, but You already declined. Anyway, great bass, GLWTS.
Thank you it was a great offer, but I'm not looking for a Warwick bass, though it looks cool! I will have a think about trades though cash will win me over faster as needs must right now.
It's not quite true that PA speakers aren't designed to do bass. the better ones are. They are expected to have both the bass and kick drums running through them and at similar volumes, maybe louder than the backline. What you can't expect is something to do the job for £200. Let's say the competition is between a conventional lightweight setup and and a PA speaker. If you went the Markbass/Barefaced route You'd end up paying £900 ish. Part of this is because you are paying for something optimised for bass and part of this is because anything bass is automatically a bit specialised and made in smaller production runs. So, the better comparison would be with something like QSC or RCF. The RCF ART712 might be a better comparison at about £500. Add in a bass pre amp and you are talking £6-700. There's a small saving because the PA speaker is more of a mass produced product and you have a much better tweeter and crossover than most bass gear. In this case the 12" driver is designed to handle bass. What you lose is having a sound deliberately coloured to flatter your bass, though you may be able to eq some of that back in. I started out using PA speakers for my bass. It works no problem, in fact I personally liked the hi-fi sound and I'm toying with the idea of using them again. Fundamentally though you can't have cheap, light and loud all at the same time, what you are suggesting is do-able but you'll need to invest. If there is a PMT near you then you could probably try your bass through the PA speakers.
I was referring to the type the OP was particularly asking about in my response. Yes, I know that PA cabs can do bass!
Perfect, this helps me quite a lot. I was a little afraid that a low-cut might have been in order with these, unless going FRFR for quite a lot of money is an option. At this point, a lightweight amp is probably the wisest choice. My original thinking in using a powered speaker was also very much informed by the fact that I tend to use a laptop and plugins all the time, so that perhaps going into something with a flatter response would have made sense, and would have allowed me to use it on guitar too. However, I see now that the tradeoff would probably be too big for it to be a convenient deal. Thanks a lot!
I'm not sure what your budget is, but in light of the extra details, I'd have to suggest the Barefaced FR800 - I'd have one Asap if I didn't have to flog some stuff right now.

PA active cabinets will work - I mean, you can plug your bass in to them via the B3 and you'll be able to hear yourself as long as the rest of the band aren't too loud. Certainly the plastic box versions you have linked to will easily be swallowed up if the guitarist turns up with a 30W valve amp cranked. The other downside is that those PA cabinets aren't really designed to 'do' bass end. Great for vocals and the top end of keys maybe, but our bass frequencies require lots of energy to be heard (have girth etc) so you may be left for wanting unless it's only for monitoring purposes where you aren't bothered with not having low end.
Saw this and couldn't stop drooling http://thebassgaller...ision-1965.html
I opened the page and then saw a whole list of really tasty basses. I think I need to just close that down before I take a closer look at the '68 Tele bass... yes, nice basses indeed!

Whatever happened to the Cabronita Precision?
Dood replied to Grahambythesea's topic in Bass Guitars
Having recently seen one of these for sale on the Cash Converters Website for under £400, I thought I'd check out the spec, but they are no longer on the Fender website, so I guess they are no longer made. Given that all the reviews i read about were very positive, I wonder why Fender would pull the plug on them after such a short time of manufacture (l'm guessing only 2 years and even shorter for the Squier version?). So were they really not a success? What do members think of them? Are they potentially a future classic or one to avoid?
Loved the Cabronita, but of all things, the pickup I'd have ended swapping out, which was it's selling point. I still keep an eye out for one going cheap but funds are never available when one comes up. The big fat neck, tele headstock and reverse tuners are very cool along with the high mass bridge. Having reviewed one, it was a thumbs up - maybe the Mike Dirnt sig is the nearest equivalent. -
New vid up: https://www.youtube....h?v=2xoyTqYafMQ Shows off the features but tone-wise I have to say it's a little boxy. Probably this chaps tone and recording doesn't help. I had this thought when I A/B'd the Two Notes Le Bass and the normal Vintage Deluxe... the cab sim on the two notes gives it more 'heft'. (I did have the objective of replacing a rig with a pre-amp.) This looks good though if you've already got a rig with plenty of trouser-flappage and want to fine tune the grit on top.
You spotted 'Amazing Freatures' too!

I think the obvious choice has been made then! Time to choose which model to go for!
Have the power amp racked and install a multitude of preamps and sound shapers on a pedalboard... every eventuality covered!
Yup, like this and actually exactly what I'm doing myself! I have a BH800 from TC Electronic for most stuff but when I wanna go big big, then I run a TC G-System and pedals in to a QSC power amp and then on to the previously mentioned Barefaced Big Twin II I can't wait to run two cabs for stereo, but there's no way I can afford another right now. Car needs a service...
Cheers Dood, I'm aiming to do a replica of my 74 bass that i sadly have to sell - I'll give them an email tomorrow.
No Problem! Happy to help!

The four string NG-2 models come as standard with a B-E-A-D tuning and the scale length of the low B is a snip over 36". Furthermore, I will be reviewing the NG-2 four string tomorrow for a forthcoming article in Guitar Interactive Mag.
