EMG pickups - Difference between a 35P4X & a 35PX
Dood replied to ead's topic in Repairs and Technical
Yeah I think they are both the same - a P5X label would tell you that the coils are arranged for 5 strings, so unsure what the '4' is in the model name for. -
Some help from those who've worked with promoters before.
Nice to see someone organising and trying to recruit into the MU
Well, for the yearly subscription, it might just save someone being ripped off - or indeed having advice and legal support when dealing with professional contracts. -
My band have our first WMC club gig soon, and I'd like your interpretation on their fees.
I would also run this by your local MU rep if you have joined - and if you haven't, join. There's lots of advice to be had from them as well as help with contracts etc. -
I have 2xHD112 so I'm guessing the combo would work very well - Berg have a downloadable profile for these cabs
It's onboard the amp already - and I would love to hear that very set up. The B|Amp has just been updated to include an adjustable compressor and three types of drive too. With those, the parametric EQ, adjustable HPF, adjustable bright switch, feedback filter (for acoustic players) and all the usual connections, it's hard to beat. Runs down to 2 Ohms as well with a special selector via the onboard processor that sets the cooling up for the extra amp load.
-
It's also very well behaved with other cabinets as the profiles are bypass-able - in case anyone was thinking it couldn't be used with anything other than Bergs.
-
In short though, yeah, it's brilliant. Love it. Really clean, detailed top end and great punch. Engineers loved the DI tone and I've had some really nice compliments when depping for bands too. As for the amp itself, I've always had a pang for a decent parametric EQ and the speaker profiles to my ears work very well.

There's a review on the Bergantino Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/bergantinoaudio/?fref=ts
Hi everyone, I can't seem to find a set of original specs for my 2006 Jag, as I want a new set of strings. Does anyone know what gauge I should be fitting? Thanks, Dario
Fender tend to fit 45-105 nickel plated steel round wounds as standard, so that's a good place to start, but you are of course not stuck with only being able to use that gauge specifically.

Just a bit of fun. Feel free to change the caption.

For clarity in harmonics, a multiband compressor - and a good one at that will be a good choice. The TC Spectracomp with the addition of the free TonePrint editor software is hard to beat. The algorithms on board are lifted from TC's own highly regarded studio rack systems. I use multi band compression because I need to be able to have deep pounding bass at times, but still hear chords, melody lines and indeed harmonics ringing out but without the side effects of heavy compression. The cool thing about Spectracomp though is that if you want CS-2, Ross, EBS style compression characteristics, well, it'll do that too
I'll almost certainly be there, even if there's evening gigs to play . Great hang! Si
It's the only time we get to see each other I'll be there I am sure - hopefully a bit more 'with it' this year!

Great thread! I've a 70's RI (A) neck waiting for a body. Think I'm going with a natural Alder body for the 80's John Deacon look. My neck's pocket width is 64.2mm so I'll be looking at an RI body. GuitarBuild do RI pockets which is brilliant but I'm out of sheckles to afford one right now!
Just a thought but why are the strings on basses/ guitars ordered top low- bottom high. Why not bottom low - top high? Would sort of make more sense. Is it because of how commonly each of the strings is used? (but doesn't that vary person to person as well?)
It doesn't matter because bassists shouldn't be playing above the fifth fret on the two low strings anyway 'lol'.
1200 grit wet and dry up and down the playing area, gloss gone. Bit of cutting compound at a later date and it's glossy again if you want to sell it on.
This. Although in the majority of cases with my students, a technique change has alleviated any 'sticky neck' problems on any bass.

And someone let him loose on the B3 with the MS60 too: https://www.iguitarmag.com/magazine-editions/guitar-interactive-issue-21/reviews/zoom-b3-ms60-bass-fx/

Oh good grief, he's done the MS60B by Zoom too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r2AG3n8KVzA

The B3 is a metal shell, the B1 is plastic. They have similar processors, ZFX3 for the B1 and ZFX4 for the B3 - but the effects quality is lower on the B1 so that it can run 5 effects at the same time without running out of steam. That said, for the money, the effects are very good, no doubt. B3 operates in a different way to the B1. Think of the B3 as three separate pedals, the B1 in more familiar multi-effects territory. Here's someone banging on about the B1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V81vx86c5h0
I measured the pocket last night and im getting it at 67mm
Wow! That's quote a variation between basses isn't it? - I guess I'm less worried about having to get the exact body if the likelihood is that they vary so much. Kinda bizarre as I assumed that if they were machine made en masse, then they'd be closer in tolerances. Maybe having made in different years and possibly by different factories would account for that. Looking at the cost of a donor body may mean this little project is shelved until next year now. At least I have the neck I particularly wanted! I think it's unlikely that a matching PB70 body will come up any time soon anyway!
Not EMG,s they are way too glassy for a jazz bass imo
I have to say I do like that glassy sound, but if you install the passive tone control too and wind it back a bit you can get right back to vintage warm. Guy Pratt's Jazz is loaded with EMGs and is a great example I like the Nordstrand Singles too and if Aguilar's offering sounds as good as their DCB pickups then those would be cool to try out in a Jazz.

Yes to the above but you will want to still make sure your rack case is allowing enough air circulation via vents too.
If you can stand the ghastly colour, the project bass that Karlfer has just posted in the basses for sale column might do you - if the standard pocket is smaller than the 62RI it would be easy enough to find someone to rout out a bigger pocket. Isn't Andrew Guyton just down the road from you? :-)
Thank you once again! I hadn't spotted the project bass - and you know, I actually quite like the colour! For my planned project it'd possibly end up being stripped back for a natural finish, but that said, I like a bit of an eye catching body! Indeed Andy is just down the road and I've been meaning to pop in and see him for ages! I think adjusting a neck pocket would be as you say a simple task. I suppose this way I can look to save some money as the donor neck ended up caning me with regard to import costs! OUCH! - I did get the neck I was specifically looking for though. There's a few 'no name' bodies on eBay too, so with regard to getting a body to be worked on, then more options are available. I suppose I just wanted to be able to drop my neck on a ready made body and off I go.. but then, there's that whole 'money I don't have' thing. At least this little project is occupying my mind rather than day to day demons lol.
You're welcome Dood, if there's anything else you'd like me to measure just let me know.
I think that's the main dimensions I wanted to check - though I wasn't expecting there to be such a difference between two PB70's - I have however had a reply from a company making bodies that know about the 'reissue' width being larger, so it won't be a problem as such. Ideally picking up a PB RI body that is going spare that has already been finished will hopefully mean less of an outlay verses having a body made, sprayed and finished. - Though it throws in some doubt if the neck pockets are quite variable. It could then mean just getting a standard (non-Fender) body and still having work done to make the neck fit.
My PB70US neck is 62.9mm at the 20th fret and 60mm between the 15th and 16 frets where it exits the neck pocket. I am not sure about taking the neck off but body thickness minus body depth under the pocket is 15.6mm. hope this helps! Mine has a slim neck measuring 38.5mm at the nut, spacing between the g and e strings is 30mm.
This is very helpful indeed! Thank you!
