1.
Anyone noticed any lack of heft when wearing gloves?
Well, it all changed when they stopped using the much heavier thread. New technology gloves just don't have what the old ones do best...
  2. I suppose most people go straight for Scott's reason, but there are plenty more. Some bassists are allergic to Nickel and thus use gloves to act as a barrier. I've heard of some who suffer from sticky / clammy hands, for whatever reason and like to use gloves to keep things dry when playing. This is actually quite a wise idea too because if you are playing long, sweaty gigs and digging in way too hard all the time, keeping the fingers dry can go a way to helping the prevention of blisters. I've never tried using gloves so can't comment on experiences personally.
  3. I can do pictures yes! I will upload them this afternoon! The controls for the preamplifier are: Master Volume TBX Tone Control EQ 'Sweep' Control Three Way Pickup Selector Mini Three Way Mode Selector (includes Bypass Mode) The PJ Pickups themselves look no different from a standard set and the knobs are classic Fender 'F' stamped type. You'll need the picture to get what I mean The preamplifier takes a 9v battery as standard.
  4. Make me an offer for the whole set. Need to sell.
  5. Just to confirm, you say you bought the bass second hand. Was it bought second hand from the company who made it? I'm not clear if that was the case, only that you felt it wise to take the bass back to its origin of manufacture.
  6. They are Rotosound.
  7. I've been asked if I will split these pickups. Although I'd rather not, the option is there. The FD3a pickups are neck and bridge positions anyway so this would be perfect for a two pickup bass too without the P-Tone.
  8.
What did you swap them out for, dood? I'm tempted by the P-Tone, trying to visualise what kind of upgrade in sound it would give me.
If I told you that, I might have to destroy the evidence ;oP Well, the P-Tone has been crafted to give you a much closer sound to that of a P pickup, which for me is a delight as I really like the added warmth and flavour that a PJ config gives verses JJ.
  9.
Wish I had a suitable bass to put this into! Do you know how they compare with the Super Fattys?
I would say that the SF's are slightly more aggressive and the FD3a's have a bit more bottom. The SF's have a nice peak for cutting through which the FD3a I feel is higher up the frequency scale if that makes sense. To my ear anyway!! Ha! Very unscientific! The FD's could be considered warmer sounding.
  10.
I don't think a flatter radius makes any difference to how low you can get the action.
A flatter radius with a very low action will make string bends less likely to choke off. (If string bending is your thing of course. It is mine. I like a tone up and sometimes if it will go, a minor 3rd, certainly a major 3rd on the low strings)
  11.
I find they get a bit boring, there's a Gary Grainger PRS bass review by Premier Guitars on YouTube that I tried to watch this morning and I felt that watching the already dry paint on the wall was more interesting!!
Thank you, I'm interested in what everyone has to say, so keep the replies coming.
  12. Are short videos that demonstrate the essentials better than long ones that can contain more detail? Discuss..
  13.
Probably should have explained the thread better. It occurred to me that by the time my tone gets to the business end I've used the controls on my bass, an mxr at my feet and the controls on my amp. It all seems daft.
Yup, it occurred to me that I spent more time using the EQ to get the cabinet in the room to sound nice. If only someone had taken care of that so less EQ'ing was required for the actual bass sound.... hmmmmm, now let me see...

    Feedback for Embra

A flawless transaction with super fast shipping updates and probably the most impressive packing skills I have ever seen - and I thought I was thorough! I think this parcel could have been swam from China and thrown from an aircraft, it'd still have been safe. A++++
  15. I've used Power Amps in my bass rigs for years and years! I love the idea of having a modular rig in much the same way as people do HiFi separates! Ok for sure, these days I like to travel light and technology is such that I've been able to get about with a few pedals etc but once upon a time a 10U rack was almost mandatory for everything I'd gig with ha ha!!! I've had many amps from Yamaha, Peavey, QSC and Powersoft (Arguably one of the Daddies!!) There's loads to choose from out there depending on your needs.
  16.
Most gear demos are bad, and that's being kind. I tend to only rate Ed Friedland and Dan's reviews. Unfortunately Ed seems to have stopped doing reviews.
Being rated side by side with The Bass Whisperer himself! That's really cool
