    Fender Heavy picks do the job for me. Recently started playing with a pick after 20 years plus playing fingerstyle. Fender Heavys worked for me way back and still seem to now.

    Blimey Geoff, I certainly don’t need this after buying your ABM400 but I’m very bloody close to pulling the trigger regardless. Someone else jump in quickly please!

    If you’ll be gigging with any kind of regularity then go for separate head and cab as you may well find there’ll be gigs where there will be the option of a semi share of backline. If so this will often be that you can use the cab but need your own amp. Saves you carting a whole combo to the gig then... Agree on above also. Min 300w head and as for a cab to get you started 8ohm cab in whatever speaker size and number you want. As said you can then add another later on should you wish. Also agree on buying through the classifieds on here.

    Crazily £350 about 10 years ago due to the mods and overall condition. The finish is dreadful but doesn’t show up in pics, but I have no intention of tarting it up. On account of the pickup (which is without doubt the hottest pickup I’ve encountered) sonically it’s the opposite of versatile. But if growly and raspy is what works (which it does in my current band) it’s superb. YOB bass for me too so won’t ever be moved on...

    I’m a fingerstyle player all the way but on my ‘76 Ripper it just doesn’t cut it. Definitely needs a pick. But then, there isn’t another Ripper quite like mine. It came to me like this. God it’s a state but I love it to bit!

    Yeah, mine is for experimenting as part of a two piece thing so will be combined with octave up and distortion/fuzz for the ‘guitar’ element of the sound.

Anyway, the purpose of my post is that RRP seems to be about £170 (GAK was otherwise the cheapest I’d found at £155).     Interesting to see a board like that @Dudgeman. Am in the early stages of planning a board/buying pedals for a bass and drums two piece thing. That said, running to three channels is unlikely for me, will be two max! My pedalboard will have to be a wee bit trimmed down compared to yours as well!

    Hey y’all, After a recent acquisition this has slipped down the pecking order so on she must go. 1996 I think (well 96 or 97 prior to them shifting from MIJ to CIJ) Precision. Metallic red with aftermarket black scratchplate with black screws. A few little dings here and there as you’d expect for a 20+ year old instrument but nothing major. * Please note * - The bass is currently strung B to D and the nut has been cut accordingly. Been this way for a good while now. Fairly straightforward fix to get her back to standard though. Upgraded Seymour Duncan SPB-3 Quarterpounder pickup. Sounds like a P bass should and feels and plays ace. Will supply in tatty but functional Fender gig bag. Don’t have original p/up or scratchplate. Not a fan of posting guitars so it’s collection or close meet-up in Birmingham/West Midlands on this for now at least (am located by J7 of M6). Looking for a straight sale ideally, although am on the lookout for a light weight single cab solution. Feel price is reasonable given the mods etc. cheers

    I decided to dip my toe back into the fretlwss pond about 22 years after first giving it a whirl. I always steered myself away from cheapies after my early 90s first bass experiences. I went for a second hand Vintage Icon (the Jaco tribute). Picked it up for about £120. Cracking bass. Absolutely cracking.

    Not sure if the prices were mentioned anywhere previously for the new pedals but they’re live for pre-order, and gulp! https://ashdownmusic.com/collections/pedals-1 Would be interested in trying the drive, but much as I love Ashdown amps, cabs and customer service think they’ll struggle with these given the price point and competition in that ball park.

    Does my frickin’ box in when a bassist slaps the living feckery out of their bass during soundcheck then doesn’t play even a passage of slap in their set. Amazes me how often this still happens. Completely pointless. personally though, a few runs of whatever I feel at the time and playing as hard as I do during a set which, perish my right hand, is hard and right in the sweet spot of a Precision

    Wouldn’t say hated but I’d lusted after a Ricky for years. Bought a 4003 in around 2002. It felt lovely (other than the pain of fingerstyle with the stupid pickup and surround), looked stunning but tonally did nada for me. Played it occasionally, kept it 3 or 4 years and sold it on at a profit. I’ve still often thought I should give one another go for some reason though...

    What a bargain. If I could in any way justify I’d have jumped at this. It doesn’t quite fit the ‘downsizing from an 8x10’ criteria though unfortunately. GLWTS

    Indeed they are. Mine needs a decent setup and the jack input is loose so I need to right that. And yeah, was thinking similarly with the strap tbh. I’m fortunate that I got the plate with mine but am unsure just now as to whether I prefer with or without. If I stick to without I’ll let you know! 👍🏻
