  1. Thanks for this. I now know which version the one I’ve recently bought on a whim is!
  2. Basses. I have a wish list for basses, amps, cabs and effects though. Difference is, for all but the first it’s for fulfilling a specific need (portability, tone, because I need x pedal for what I’m doing etc etc). With basses it’s more “I’ve always wanted one and I’ll regret it if I don’t.” I inevitably love what I’ve bought, don’t use it, move it on and continue with my tried and tested two I’ve had for years...(only exception to this thus far is my fairly recently purchased Mustang).
  3. First time I’ve done this and didn’t even manage to remember to take a proper pic so apols for quality! Anyway, started a two piece thing so got my signal split - one ‘bass’ rig (Ashdown ABM 400 into TC RS212) and one ‘guitar’ rig (Hartke HA2500 combo). Board is Korg DT-10 into an EHX Switchblade Plus... Bass then through a Malekko Assmaster and TC Ditto. Top end into a T-Rex Quint for the octave up and a bit of added fifth, EHX Pocket Metal Muff, Reissue EHX Green Russian Muff. Plan on also adding a TC Mojomojo for a non-crazy bottom end dirt option and maybe a delay somewhere in the chain.
  4. I have a Joyo branded one. Sounded very decent to my ears. Found mine to be a little on the noisy side, lots of hiss. Guitarist in my band at the time used it for a while and it sounded really good for him too. Been sat in the box since as I changed bands and board! I should give it another whirl, now you’ve mentioned it...
  5. Living Colour at The Mill in Birmingham. Playing Vivid front to back. Just awesome musicianship as always. And by God, Doug Wimbish remains an absolute beast of a player.
  6. Bloody love these.
  7. Very true. I do like the way he mixes it up. A decent blend of boutique and Boss, MXR, EHX and the like on his board still. Years back when I first saw Big Biz he was playing a Squier Jazz through a rig that included some cheap old Crate guitar combo. And by Christ it all sounded enormous!
  8. Just been geeking out over a bunch of pedalboards lately. This was on Jared Warren’s from Big Business and was about the only thing I couldn’t ID!
  9. Thank you! From the super pinkness it does look to be the Chicklet! Cheers again for clearing that up for me. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
  10. Anybody help me out with what this is please???
  11. Yes. Painful as bloody hell. Can’t be chancing with ears. I took a few weeks off when I did mine. Got to give it chance to heal...
  12. Hey all, Need a shorty back up and can’t find availability of most of my short list just now, so am considering a Gretsch Junior Jet. Does anyone have any opinions on whether there’s much to choose between the old versions and the current ones? I’ve read the pickups in the out of production ones are of a better quality (TV Jones designed I think vs generic mini HBs on the current model?), but interested in any opinions of whether it’s worth the effort of scouring for one of them or taking the easy option and getting a current production model. Any/all opinions appreciated. Cheers
  13. Think you’re good for whatever you wanna play personally. I tried a 5er for 3 months years ago, hated it, but loved the B string. The next 7 or 8 years I played a Precision strung BEAD more or less exclusively. Still do fairly often. Screw the rules and screw what others think (if their thoughts are as you felt, which is unlikely).
  14. For me it’s feeling I’m further forward In some way than before it. New song, new bassline, nailing something you’ve struggled with previously, adding some BVs, whatever. But basically not standing still (or going backwards, God I hate that).
  15. If you’re interested in a Fuzzmo drop me a PM...
  16. Lovely bass! There’s something about the feel and tone of 90s MIJ Fenders.
  17. Band of Horses at Kentish Town Forum last night. Sublime as ever. Such a great band.
  18. Very briefly had an Allen Woody. I’d say over 7lbs, closer to 8, so probs not much use for you tbh. Nice basses though...
  19. Nice work! Currently in the early stages of my own bass/drums two piece. Just started rocking a Mustang bass also. I’m still a little short of what I want in terms of the dirt on my octave up element of the sound but getting there. Just need to pick up a few more dirtboxes to find something I’m happy with.
  20. I’ve only had mine a couple of weeks and love it. Re: the pickups, I’m largely using the P pickup, just my preference as I’m a P player generally. The blended pickup sound is really nice though, and very usable. The J on its own is also usable and also sounds very decent to my ears. What I can’t do is give you much in terms of how it holds up in the mix with any kind of a ‘regular’ band as I’m currently in a bass/drum two piece. Well worth the outlay if you want my opinion though.
  21. Love ABM amps so much and, other than a dabble with an Orange TB for a year or so, they’re what I’ve gone for as a first choice for donkeys. Yeah, the sub-octave and compressors on them are a bit crap, but the grind you can dial in and general EQ and thump is great.
  22. Since starting up a bass/drums two piece I’d considered going shortscale for something a little different. Took the plunge and wow, what a great bass! Fit, finish and quality is superb (I rarely get on with brand new basses). Great range of tones and loves being played fingerstyle or with a pick. Put simply, I love it. Happy as holy hell with the first brand new bass I’ve bought in more than 15 years.

  23. Tyler Ramsey (Ed-Band of Horses guitarist) at St Pancras Old Church on Monday. Beautiful venue and a superb gig. His fingerpicking is great. His new album, For the Morning, is highly recommended too if you like the singer/songwriter thing...
  24. LH did indeed post on Facebook a few days back about those old ads and said “I still have a cell...” and posted his number, so he’s definitely still welcoming calls. Nutter!
  25. Agreed on the brands you listed plus those Greek added. I’d also add Vintage to the list. Quality of instrument far, far better than the price point would suggest, on their Icon range at least.
