I'm having one of my pre CBS Precisions refreted, my question is which frets to put on? Do I go for some vintage style frets or some jumbo? Would like for like frets maintain more of the value or is a refret a refret when it comes to value?

I've played through a lot of good amps, but my mark bass CMD121p with NY121 is the only set up I've not even thought of moving on, and it's on that basis that I highly recommend.....

Yep, I was being a bit thick...... I may have to give one of these a go when they start to appear in the shops.

I'm probably being a bit thick, but looking at the spec, how can it be 17 inches tall, have a head and two 10 inch speakers??

I play through a Mark bass CMD121P with a NY12 extension cab, I never go over 12 O'clock and will often play at 9.....

The necks Dec 64, the pots are June 64, and I can't quite make out the scribble in the pick up cavity, could be June 63....

It also has the original case which is a little battered, but it is over 50 years old.. One of the fret clay dot markers has fallen out, not sure whether to leave it as it is or to replace it with something! Any thoughts on this?

I appear to have accidentally bought another 1964 Precision, this is a late 64 model and so has the pearloid fret inlays but clay dot markers! Obviously this has been stripped and is a lovely natural colour. It has SB burnt into the wood under the pickguard with a soldering iron so my understanding is that this would have left the factory as a sunburst, then gone back to get a custom Sonic Blue over the top! It has a reissue pickguard but everything else is original, pots 3046421 and neck December 64, black bottom pickups. I have thought about getting it back to its previous original condition, Sonic Blue over sunburst, but I quite like it as it is! Not sure how long I can justify having the two 64s so don't be surprised if one of them are in the for sale forum at some point in the future! Photos to follow this pm

One of the best sounding combos I had was the SWR Redhead, the 240 watt was lacking a little volume, I bet the Super kicks ass.....cant believe the price you can pick these up for these days, proper bargain for top quality....

It is a pretty decent price for an all original 76 Precision, it's certainly not half price, but it's priced to sell......

Depending on your budget the king of small and portable is the AER amp one, 200 very loud watts through a 10 inch speaker, although the mark bass stuff is also rather spectacular. My Mark bass CMD121p is the only amp I've kept hold of for over a year...I normally get bored and move them on.....

In all likelihood the refret was done out of preference rather than necessity, I have a 64 Precision with pretty low frets, I wouldn't refret and with a good set up it plays perfectly, but someone else may decide to do it, but that would be personal choice and not a fault with the bass. Also if you frets are too low for you, it doesn't take two months to realise, ignore him.
