2.
We can't play them. We had a go at Sex on Fire and it was a disaster. Then it got worse every time we played it. When you can't even get the introduction right you know you're in big trouble.
Blob dude. We had the same problem as our drummer can`t keep time to save his life. Get the drums to start first and then when he has got himself sorted bring in the bass and guitar. Viola!! It goes doon a treat. Better still, Use somebody, the drumming doesn`t go in time with anything else so nobody noticws you are all over the place. Of course, the drummer might not be the problem. Jez
3. I would be wary. Jap Fenders are great but dont get like me and think that everything that`s made in Japan is gonna be good. About 2 years ago I paid £117 for a Joodee P type bass and was well chuffed until I got it and it sounded like sh*t! Put it into the local luthier and he had never heard of the make and couldn`t get it to sound any better unless I spent a few bob on it. And it had the cheek to say "for profesional use" on the headstock. Wibble wibble Jez
4. Do the gig Pete. We play in local boozers and on one sunday evening there was 4 bar staff, 4 in the band and 3 punters! It is what we call a tumbleweed gig as at the end of each song that`s what blows across in front of you. Put on a good show for the people that turn up. By the way, were you in bass mag a few months ago? Jez
5.
Jez the Gent does it again! Cracking Mike Dirnt P for a bargain price. All the best, mate BB
Thanks BB. Sod selling anything so cheap again, still gettin phone calls and a few e mails about it! Jez
6. Totally the right thing to do. I have left bands/getting bands together sitiuations due to similar experiances. This aint my living, it`s a hobby I do cause I enjoy doing it. When it becomes too much grief, I walk away. It has taken a while but the guys I play with now all get along great and although we aint the best bunch of musicians, we enjoy it and people seem to like us. (No accounting for taste!!). Jez
7. Bought on a whim for £200 a couple of weeks ago but quickly realised it aint for me. This is the second one I have bought, you would think I would have learned my lesson by noo! Fitted with a set of rotosounds, will give you original epi strings. The bass hasn`t been out the house and is in brand new condition. I have fitted an additional starp button on back of bass. Will throw in an extra long Levy strap so you can play it down at your knees Pete Way style! Collect only from Paisley. £120 Jez
8. Dont get too excited!!! Epip EBO much modified (not by me, honest!). I got it from a guy I know and was intending to fix it up but cant be ars*d. It works but will need some work done to it to make it usable as it goes out of tune rapid and is a bit rough in the finishing department. I was gonna sell it on gumtree for £35 but am far too embarssed! It would make a good project for someone. You would have to collect it from Paisley and if you feel like giving a small donation to the web site that would be cool. Jez
9. Bought a book second hand the other day, The Fender Bass-An illustrated history by Hal/Leonard. Great book, tells you about all the Fender basses. It stops at 2001 but as I said got it second hand so possibly there has been an updated version. Really good book with plenty of great pics. GiveS you a bad case of GAS. Jez
10. Don`t know how much it`s worth but I have only heard good things about peavey basses. I`d buy it on looks alone! Well tasty!!! Jez
11. I have a muck around with various tunes and throw some "shapes". But what gets right up my ti*s is no matter what time you go into the guitar shop there is always a group of 13 year olds playing an Ibanez or similar pointy thing, murdering some trivium or metalica. They play for 2 mins (all they can play for) and then their mates talk about how awsome the playing/guitar was. And just when you think that it`s over, they give it to another one of their mates!! Yes I am a grumpy old bas*ard!! Jez
12. You can get the Tokia for £279 from these guys. Have used them in the past and their service was superb. Andersons are saying that the Epi Pro`s are arriving on the 20th of July so I would hold out for a bit and try and get a shot of one of those. 13. My Mex classic 60`s Jazz doesn`t have the hole you refer too but the last sunburst standard did. Mmmnnn..... Jez
14. Due to me never being happy with one thing for very long, anyone got or had a 4401? Really like the 4402 but can`t go that amount of cash. After buying Barry44`s ibby I am right in the mood for something with active pickups. So, any opinions? Jez
15. Just sat and read all the posts, 25 pages!!!! Some of the comments are proof that care in the comunity just ain`t working. It would drive you to drink! Back on subject..... I buy guitarist and guitar and bass magazine. I find these mags have good reviews, interviews and stuff like vintage guitars, how to pimp your axe and rebuilds. If BGM could nick a few ideas from them I think that it would be a much better mag. Too much emphasis on high end gear. I think that we should give it some time and hopefully the guys and gals working on it will get it right. Jez
16. Here`s one. It aint a Squire and I cant coment on the quality but it`s worth a pop at that price. 17. Good shout, the sansamp. I use a programable bass driver with 3 settings on it and it gives me all the tones I need. I use the amp and plug it into the effects return loop and bypass the amps tone controls. Sometimes I use it just to fatten up the sound, other times if I need a load of treble, it`s there at a kick of a switch. Crackin piece of kit. Jez
18. Keep your money for the Geddy unless you really like the Jaguar looks. Owned a black Jag and the active circut buzzed like hell if you went near a large light set up. The bass and treble were basically like on/off switches and having removed the pickgaurd for a look, if something went wrong in there, off to the guitar repair dude. Result? Got shot of it and a few basses later bought a Mexican 60`s classic Jazz and love it to bit`s. Of course other people may love em but I think you are better off with a decent Jazz. Jez
19. Never seen Ged using this one. Well sexy. The red one is a custom shop model if I remember right and he also uses a Jaco. On one song. Makes you bloomin sick. Jez
20. Right, I`ve got the gas for an EBO. i`ve read the reviews on harmony central but I trust youz guys and gals. So, are they any good? I don`t mind moding it a bit but I need to know if it is worth it. I`m gonna have a look in the build diary section as I`m sure somebody done a lot of work on one but if you can give me your opinions that would be great. Part of the reason for asking is I owned a EB3 and didn`t like much about it and don`t want to make the same mistake twice. Cheers, Jez
21.
I have ashtrays on both my basses & have done since the late 90s. Out of interest, does anyone happen to know if the bridge ashtray wll fit over an American Standard P-bass High Mass Vintage bridge? I assume it does because of the use of the word "vintage" but wonder if anyone has first hand knowledge.
If you are talking about the new model, yes it will. Here is a pic of my 2008 model with full covers, since traded. Jez
22. Due to suffering a compound fracture and dislocation of my left pinky finger about 10 years ago in a goalkeeping incident, I have very little strengh in that side of my hand:the power side of your hand, the other side (thumb etc) is where you get your dexterity from. Due to this I use my 1st and 2nd and ocasionally my 3rd finger to fret with. My pinky is of no use as it`s as bent as an arabs dagger. Do I worry about left hand technique? Na! B*llocks to that. I know that it limits my abilities as a player but by moving my fingers very fast I seem to get away with it. Well, most times. Jez
23. Seen this whilst browsing fleabay. It doesn`t look like a product of the Jap Squire factory to me. More like a cheapo copy. I see the guy covers himself in the posting. Of course, it could be ligit and I could be talking out opf my ar*e. Any opinions? (On the bass not me talking out of my ar*e). Jez http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BASS-GUITAR-JAPANESE...%3A3%7C294%3A50
24. I`ve gone back to a fender jazz, the bass I started on and feel much happier. Having said that, I got an srx700 ibby in a trade with Barry44 and am now gassing for an sr700! I got the srx as part of a deal for my us P bass as, great bass that it was, it wasn`t getting used and was sitting in it`s case. And it was the most expensive bass I have ever bought, so, it goes to show that spending lots of cash doesn`t alwats make you a happy guy. That`s the problem with this forum, before joining it I was quite happy with what I had but since then I have bought and sold about 7 guitars! I`m away to stick me head in the freezer to stop thinking about sr700`s!! Jez
