1.
Does anyone know a reliable Amp-Man/Woman in the Lea Valley area? I have 2 services and a couple of challenges for them.....
Try Malcolm in Edmonton - 07760 245510. He fixed my amp a few years ago. Not sure if he's still on that number, but give it a go.
2. We're booked to play our final pub gig of the year this Saturday. It's been booked for about two months. We've publicised it in all the usual ways, FaceBook, LemonRock, local press etc etc. Lots of friends coming. This afternoon, the landlord emailed us (he can't spell either): "Hi guys, got a bit of bad news about this Saturday's gig, a woman came in Tuesday and booked a private party and there paying for there own band, I cant find your number anywhere if you could give me a call back or an email back confirming this email etc .... " We wrote back to him telling him that either we play, or he pays our full fee. He's now backed off and cancelled the other party (I bet she's pleased) ! How he thought he'd get away with it is anybody's guess ..........
3. Thanks for all the replies! Will let you know what happens, if anything!
4. I know this is a bit of a "how long's a piece of string" question but using the following parameters: - Five-piece covers band been building a good reputation in the local pubs for the past year - Normally charge £250 for a Fri or Sat night pub gig - Hertfordshire based We've been asked to do a pub gig the week before Xmas (17/12) and a separate pub gig on New Year's Eve. We've gigged both pubs before so they like us. The 17/12 might warrant a slight uplift? For NYE, I don't yet know if the pub will charge an entry fee, but what would others feel is a reasonable performance fee? Thanks.

6. Anyone know how Jean-Jacques got that bass sound on the intro to "Hanging Around" ?
7. I look forward to the day when someone plays the bass riff in the middle of You Can Call Me Al live ............ as the second half of it is the first half recording being played backwards is it not? :-) JJ
8. I read lots of autobiogs, and this is one of the best!
9. The "bass" on True by Spandau was via Jess Bailey's keyboard.
10.
Fair point : £17.38 to list and put a reserve of £750 on it. Final value fee : 10% of winning bid, up to a max of £40 - so £40. Paypal fee : 3.4% on an assumed selling price of £800 = £27.20 So £84.58 then - a bit of rounding on my part, but still a ludicrous amount of money - over 10% of £800.
I had no idea that PayPal fees were so high. What a scam!
11. Are you sure it would add up to £100, as the max final value fee is £40. The other bits and bobs plus PayPal would bump this up, but maybe not to £100? Still too high though!
12. On the other hand ........... maybe it was a genuine mistake by the landlady. If that were the case, then she's probably correct in that she wouldn't want financial matters discussed with the staff. However, she could have pointed this out to you in a polite fashion. If you have more bookings there, then she can't be that p*ssed off with you. You need her, she needs you .... just count the cash at the end of the night.
13. As others have said WD40 isn't a good idea - it will ultimately leave deposits on your contacts and it will be a lot worse.
14. Just had my Ashdown MAG C410T-300 repaired. North London (Edmonton) - MPH Guitars - Malcolm 020 8372 2901
