  1. Yes, some basses cost a lot these days...... As someone who is on his 2nd bass journey (the first of which started in 1980) what is now considered a "budget" bass or guitar is a hell of a lot better than some of the 70's / early 80's cr@p that was available to me back then. I started with a really really awful Kay's catalogue piece of firewood. Back then the leap to something half decent was a heck of a lot more than I could afford, without getting a bank loan. I know this because, well..... I had to go out and get said loan to get my first decent bass. Re vintage guitars and basses, yes, I agree there seem to be an awful lot going for too much money, and I'd never take a £2k plus bass to the Frog & Firkin. As it happens, I'm not really one for keeping instruments I never gig, but if I wanted a vintage Fender / Gibson, I'd play it lovingly at home and in the studio. Then I'd get a 2nd hand Squier / Epiphone to take to gigs. Collecting vintage instruments is like anything else. My Dad had an old Mk1 Ford Cortina in the 70's. He paid £150 quid for it. When it was getting ever less reliable and looking even tattier, he scrapped it and got the princely sum of £15. Nowadays, they wouldn't scrap it because in good / restored condition it would fetch £12 - 15k. EDIT: I recall seeing Richard Hawley a few years back. He changed guitars many times. Some of his guitars were vintage Fenders, Ricks, Gibsons, Gretsch - but among them he also played a couple of Danelectro guitars.
  2. Just adding this as a possible addition to the deal. I'm also willing to throw in a rather nice K&K pickup & preamp. The K&K has both a Piezo pickup, plus a really nice microphone. The preamp allows control of the Piezo and the mic separately - so you can get the balance you want each time. (The mic usually sits just inside the f-hole, but I have just placed it on the outside so you can see it in the photo). The Gage Realist pickup which comes with this bass is really nice, of course - but I quite like having the option of choosing the K&K pickup, especially as the mic delivers such a nice, natural acoustic upright tone. Photos of preamp later. EDIT: So this now includes the stand and the K&K pickup + preamp - just making that clear. I might consider an offer, if you don't want the K&K......
  3. Lovely looking Jazz. Great colour, and that neck looks gorgeous. Fender Japan basses always seem to be well made, and great players. Good job I don't need a Jazz bass GLWTS
  4. Forgot to add: This is the replacement speaker
  5. Hope it's OK to post this here, as well as the Amps & Cabs F/S section - I'm only doing so, as this cab works really well with Acoustic Upright and EUB. These don't come up for sale very often, particularly in the UK. I swore I'd never sell this, but I have just bought an Acoustic Image "Double Shot" - so this is surplus to my needs. It's a lovely sounding cab, with a 1x10 driver, plus a Tweeter. Really loud for its' size, and really compact and light (around 11kg if my memory serves me). It's in great condition, including the felt covering - I always store and transport it with the cover on (which is also in good condition). I have gigged this quite a bit, and it has served me really well. It suits so many scenarios / genres / venues. I've used it as an additional cab to my main cab in a 5 piece rock band, I've used it on its' own in smaller and medium sized venues and folk clubs, I've used it as an onstage monitor in larger venues, and I've used it quite a lot with upright as well as bass guitar - and it always sounds superb. Being completely upfront here - I replaced the main driver with a Celestion 8 ohm 300 watt speaker - this is capable of handling more than the original 250 watt speaker though. Plus, it still sounds absolutely great. NO TRADES PLEASE - If I didn't need to thin the collection, I'd be keeping this. I'm not keen on posting this - I've had courier issues recently. I'd prefer a meet-up or collection - you are welcome to come along for a cuppa and a listen to this superb sounding, compact, lightweight cab.

  7. Really like the colour & finish on these. Not played one, but I gather they are rather good. GLWTS
  8. Sending some pics to Fender is a good idea - I wonder what their response would be? Keep us posted on such matters, and what you decide to do.
  9. Wow - that looks extreme.... Sorry to hear this has happened, and that it's so bad. As others have said - strip it and refinish. Professional re-spraying might be expensive, or tricky and time-consuming for you to undertake (if you fancy that?). The suggestions on here for a natural finish seem the best option, and I think that's what I'd be doing. Best of luck with it.
  10. Mexican stand-off - Elbow
  11. It's not just you @AndyTravis lol Hmm - this does look interesting. Something very different indeed.
  12. Just reiterating - I'm looking for a Fretless Jazz neck, either a Squier or Fender (Mex) and willing to consider trades against this - with cash added if necessary. I now need this out of the way - so I have dropped the price to £175 collected (or poss meet?) If it's not gone by Saturday - I may well donate it to a mate who has recently set up his own guitar / bass / music school.
  13. Just wanted to point out - the £45 in the title of this thread isn't the price I think one of these is worth. I'm willing to add to that price.
  14. Here's a photo showing the bass in its' soft gigbag - which then fits onto the hard case, for added padding / protection.
  15. In 100% agreement here 😀
  16. I have one of these, in Fiesta Red. It's an absolutely awesome bass, and my favourite ever P bass. These are quality instruments, and feel lovely to play, with an awesome sound. GLWTS
  17. It's a long shot, I know - but worth a try. As per title, I'm after a 3/4 Pirastro Perpetual E string. I have just become a fan of these strings, having bought an A,D & G from Ajbass on here. Price negotiable, depending on condition / usage. Thanks EDIT: Does anyone have anything similar, especially tension-wise, which might suit a set of Perpetuals?
  18. Ah, sorry to hear this Dave. Would a uke bass be easier on your joints? As I'm typing this reply, I'm sat on the sofa, playing my MIM Mustang, and wondering why I don't play it more often. Could you try some lower tension strings on your Mustang? That may make playing it easier on the hands? I played a Squier CV Mustang in my local PMT a while back - it was a lovely bass. Shame to sell all your gear. I'd hate it if I had to give up completely... I don't know what I'd do without music.
  19. I'd never heard of these. Always worth knowing of such rarities. Thanks for sharing
  20. Love that dark fretboard, and the colourful, contrasty sunburst finish. Looks absolutely lush! Happy NBD
  21. I have one, and I'm really really pleased with it. Re the mid range control, I find it's very good. I know what you mean about having a high and low mids control - but I find it quite controllable with what it has. The mid shift button can work well too, depending on the venue. I've got 3 different cabs, and choose which one, or which pair to use, depending on size of venue, and what set-up I need. I play in 5 different bands (and sometimes a folk club "jam") and play either bass guitar or upright or electric upright through it, and I can always get the sound I want, with the controls it has. It's plenty loud enough, the low end is particularly impressive, in that it is well defined, and clear. I'm using 10" speakers with it, as I find these work well with upright. I was happy with my MB Evo1 dual channel head - but now I choose the Peavey every time. For doubling up gigs, I now use the Peavey and my Stanley Clarke acoustic A,B Y pedal. Not sure where you're based, but you'd be welcome to try mine. Yes, the fan is a tad noisy - but I never hear it when I'm playing. My only regret is that I wish I'd discovered it sooner. Is it worth the money? Hell yes. Is it worth twice the money? Hell yes. I can't understand why it's as inexpensive as it is.
  22. Oh no! Sorry to hear this @bubinga5 I really hope your financial situation resolves itself asap. Years ago, I stopped playing bass for almost 25 years (work, marriage, moving/ doing up house, having a kid, band members doing the same etc) But even when I wasn't playing, I had a bass in its case, under the bed - and I'm so glad I did! Because one day, I just picked it up again. A short break from playing may not be the worst thing of all... but I hope you can get something again soon - maybe something second hand and cheapish... If you lived closer, I could loan you one for a bit.... Keep your chin up, look after yourself and hopefully, "normality" will be restored soon. Marc
  23. Last bump for this bass for a while (I may withdraw it until sometime next year). I took this bass to a rehearsal studio the other night, and it sounded absolute killer! Especially at high volume - those EMG pickups sounded superb. Perhaps it's also down to the through neck construction? I don't know - it just sounded "huge" with an amazing low end. I'm only selling as I have my eye on something else, something very different, and I'm trying to stick to my one-in-one-out policy
