  2. I was more than happy with my MB EVO1 dual channel head, but I found myself in need of a small, lightweight amp head too. On searching YouTube reviews, I decided to take a punt on a Peavey MiniMax 600 head. When I got it and plugged it in, I was blown away by the range of tones from it. The "punch", Mid shift" and "bright" boost buttons are all really useful in shaping tone and boosting some frequencies, and the "Kosmos" switch really adds lots of "oomph". It's a really warm sound, and it's an amazingly powerful head for something so tiny. There is a bit of fan noise - but not too much IMHO. Of course, you'll have to be confident that your speakers will be able to handle the output. It's 600W RMS at 4 ohms, and I'm not sure what it is at 8 ohms (but maybe around 350W). Shame you're not a bit closer - you'd be welcome to pop over for a cuppa, and to try it out, with a range of speakers (plus of course, your own). If anyone nearer you has one - I'd say ask them nicely if you could try it, and take some nice biscuits Also, this head is well within your price range, brand new. EDIT at £327 for a brand new 600w head - I think it's a steal. I now use this head all the time, and when I need 2 separate channels, I use my Stanley Clarke Acoustic preamp to give me 2 separate EQ's. Good luck with your search https://www.bax-shop.co.uk/bass-guitar-amp-head/peavey-minimax-600-bass-amp-head?utm_source=google&utm_medium=organic&utm_campaign=surfaces&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=18337210968&utm_term=&adgroup=141287010396&creative=621842242755&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQiA35urBhDCARIsAOU7QwkyfovbbKmr11my6pGseebGQki35l7pvHgOI4S6qWVosUoqnsFIOG0aAjXsEALw_wcB
  3. Bought very recently on here, thinking they might fit my BSX upright. Sadly, they don't (doh!) Well, I could probably make them fit, by paring back the silks a bit at the nut - but decided against it. These are basically a brand new set, I fitted the G very briefly to my bass, which is when I made the discovery. £80 posted. (I paid £100 for them on here - so this is a good price for a brand new set, I think) EDIT: Just checked, and these seem to be around £150 - £160 a set! Drop:Now £70 - absolute steal for someone needing new NS EUB strings
  4. Oooh. I feel I need to add this one too. The writer / singer wasn't someone who I paid too much attention to at the time - but this song became synonymous with the era. And it's such a great tune. Terence Trent D'Arby - Sign Your Name Across My Heart
  5. My own favourite on the subject of Love - Joy Division And I never thought anyone else could cover it, and do it justice. Happy to say I was wrong - June Tabor & Oyster Band
  6. I chose not to, as I thought someone else might wish to mention it And what a great song that is btw
  7. And my own favourite on this subject - "Road to hell" by Chris Rea (yes, I too have been stuck in a jam on the M25).
  8. Absolutely stunning track this. Lyrically, it is brilliant, especially considering Sandy was only in her 20's when she wrote it. I hadn't noticed the drumming in particular, but the playing on this song is understated, yet there's more to it when you listen carefully. I like Ashley's bass sound too - but Sandy's voice is just amazing.
  9. Alcohol; Milk & alcohol Red red wine Streams of Whiskey Tennessee whiskey Tequila Happy hour Design for life (we only want to get drunk) Boys from the county Hell (lend me ten pounds and I'll buy you a drink) Edit: hmm, do I now need a beer? 😉
  10. Though she lives not too far away, I hadn't been aware of Cerys until I saw her at Cambridge Folk Festival. She was absolutely brilliant, and I will be looking out for opportunities to see her again. One chance came up a while back... but typically, I was gigging that night. Thanks for posting this @Old Man Riva- you have reminded me to search what she's up to.
  11. I've seen him quite a few times over the years - but this being his 40th anniversary tour, I decided to go see Billy Bragg at the Tramshed in Cardiff last night. There was showing of a documentary film before he came on, and I enjoyed that. Billy was joined by 2 superb musicians (one on mandolin, guitar & slide guitar, the other on keys). So glad I went - he was absolutely on top form. Always makes me laugh, and yet think of serious matters at the same time. For an encore, he played his debut mini album "Lifes a riot" on the old guitar it was recorded on. Excellent evening 😀
  12. Hope it's OK to post this here as well as the Effects for sale section? I'm pretty sure I bought it from this forum, as I recall it came from a BC member like myself, who used it for EUB. This tiny unit helps improve resonance. It's actually designed for any acoustic instrument - but it helped my eub sound a bit more like an "acoustic" upright. No power supply or box, but in great condition. Usual velcro on the base. No trades thanks - I'm trying to have a clear out.
  13. I used this for a while, to help boost / improve the resonance of my Electric Upright. However, I don't need it now as I have a new gigging upright. Great condition, with the usual velcro on the base. No power supply or box. No trades thanks - I'm having a clear out. Edit: these were designed for any acoustic instruments, not just specifically bass.
  14. I've had this a while, and had forgotten about it. I used it sometime back, during a period when I wasn't playing much upright (plantar fasciitis - ouch). Anyhow, it worked well for me, I could hear the difference it made to the Tone of my bass. In excellent / mint condition, boxed, with instruction leaflet. These are rather pricey now... ranging from £269 - £315 plus import duty. This one has the UK mains connector too. # Edit: someone informed me they recently paid £340 to import one of these recently - So I'm not going to sell this for peanuts. P&P not included - I would prefer to send this insured - willing to negotiate this.
  15. Ouch! Sorry to hear that. As @Daz39says, house upgrading is expensive. In fact, not even upgrading IMO.... just house maintenance has become expensive.
  16. You'll never ever need to change the strings
  17. Thanks again @Clarky - I was searching for that chart, but couldn't recall who published it
  18. Hi all. I should probably know this.... I may even have read it, and promptly forgotten. Re TI Spirocore strings - do the light strings have purple bindings on the top, and red at the bottom? Thanks again
  19. PRICE DROP: £3,000 for the bass and stand - and I'll take an offer on the K&K pickup & preamp, if sold with the bass. It is with heavy heart and a degree of reluctance that I'm listing this fab upright - but I've been dithering, and in that time I am no longer using this fine instrument. These days, I reach straight for my BSX Allegro upright instead - so this is sitting there unused, and in need of someone who'll appreciate it and play it. These are rather special instruments, as they are essentially a reduced size body, and more "luggage friendly" - easier to travel with, yet they still sound and feel like an acoustic upright (because they are). Even travelling in a medium sized hatchback is easier. These basses are now discontinued - so they're becoming increasingly scarce. It comes fitted with a Gage Realist pickup and adjustable bridge. It also comes with the well padded gigbag it was supplied with, plus Hard Case, for protection on flights & in backs of vans. The bass is in great condition, with just a few minor knocks & bumps here & there. Strung with D'Addario Zyex strings in great condition (not much use) these are fine for bowing BTW, and seem medium tension to me. No trades thanks. And I WILL NOT POST so please don't ask. Happy to let you try the bass here in Cardiff - cup of tea and a Welsh cake for prospective buyers. I think this is a fair price for one of these, especially as they're uncommon and now discontinued, and given that they have come up on here for £3.5k (sometimes without the bonus of the hard case).
  20. Yes, I've always thought that. They're rated at 2.5w + 2 5w but are much louder than you would think. I tried a few other small battery amps- but nothing came near the volume, or sound quality of this neat little unit. I'm only selling, as I now have a Bose battery PA (rather more expensive than this).
  21. That is a lightweight bass. I'd also heard these can vary quite a bit in weight. Looks great. GLWTS
  22. I honestly don't know why this is still here. These are absolutely top notch, and now they're discontinued - so will be increasingly sought after.
  23. Shame you had to let that P bass go - it looked great. Sorry to hear of your arthritic hand issues too. I've got a MIM Mustang, and it's short scale, and the neck is fairly slender. I really like it, and if I have to sell my Precision - the PJ Mustang would become my go-to gigging bass. I've also got a short scale headless ibanez. The neck is very slim on that, and it's really light! I'm just planning ahead, in case of shoulder issues too. Every now & then, I seem to get aches & pains here & there.... gladly, not enough to have to sell my fave basses yet. Before getting my Mex Mustang, I gave a Squier CV Mustang a try, and it was rather nice. Good luck in your Mustang quest 😀
