  1. I now have a decent gigbag I can chuck in with this bass - so you can take it away safely. Also, I may be able to meet up somewhere, to hand over and let you check this lovely bass out before buying. I have a battery powered amp and bass amp headphones, so you can hear it too
  2. I've not seen one of those before. Nice bass to rescue. The structure of that neck looks lovely. Bet it's stable. Can't go wrong with an old DiMarzio pickup. Happy playing and hope you have some great gigs with it
  3. The cheapest I've seen these is £151 online - this set is effectively brand new and unused, bar 1 string which was just put onto a bass. Someone must surely need a new or spare set for their NS Design EUB? This is a crazy saving for a new set of strings. They're sat around doing nothing - unless there's another bass I can use them on.... any suggestions anyone?
  4. Still really enjoying my newfound (rediscovered?) love for fretless, and feeling so glad I got this bass. Set-up still needs an additional "tweak" I think. Alas, I'm not getting much time to spend on that currently. Some big life changes are on the way! (more of those later). But I'm grabbing a few minutes here & there to noodle along to a few songs, and can't wait to take it along to a full band rehearsal. My intonation still isn't as good as I'd like, and I have heard comments on here about playing fretless in the dark, to improve intonation by listening carefully. I might just give that a try. Anyhow, I'm enjoying the weight of this bass - it's not as light as my Danelectro or my headless short scale Ibanez, but it's half a kilo lighter than my P bass, and a tad lighter than my Mustang (I might even look at selling that now).
  5. Did a bit of a set-up "tweak" to this bass last night. I managed to get the action feeling even nicer. I wanted to give the neck a tad more relief - but the bridge saddles are at the bottom of their travels... and I can't set them any lower. However, it's set rather nicely, just as it is. There was a little string buzz / rattle at the heel end of the neck, and a close examination showed the fingerboard had a little upward slope at the end of the heel. Again, I bravely / foolishly took the sanding block to it, and gently took the level of it down a little. A bit of Lemon oil on the fingerboard afterwards, and it looked like new. It's now playing even better than before, and I'm even more pleased with my recent purchase. I could still do with selling my Precision - even though it looks lovely, it's just going to sit there, looking pretty, but unused. I am determined to make more use of this fretless bass than I did my last one, especially as I confirmed its weight with my digital scales - it's 3.5kg and that included the chunky leather strap I put on it. As you can probably gather, I am rather happy
  6. It's a 34" scale (even though I have tended to opt for 30" these days). I once had a German made Warwick, and the neck on this is nothing like that. It's like a very slightly wider Jazz neck (40mm at the nut). Fairly slim front to back and rather comfy imo. I lightly sanded the edges of the fingerboard, to give it a rolled-edges feel. I'm not sure whether I was being foolish or brave - but hey ho... it made it even more comfortable to play. I have been busy with a double gig weekend. Now I'm going to have a noodle with this bass tonight and tomorrow eve 😀
  7. As you can see from the photos, it's a reddish brown colour. In photo 2, the sunlight coming through the window was stronger, which seemed to really make the colour brighter. I have mostly switched to Short Scale for gigging bass guitars, but the neck on this is slimmer than my P bass, and its not overly heavy at around 3.5kg. I'll hang on to this unless I come across a lightweight short scale fretless. Really enjoying playing this bass. But I promised Mrs S that I would reduce the collection. Now, someone please buy my P bass. 😀
  8. A little while back, I sold my fretless Jazz, as I wasn't using it enough. Then guess what...... Yes, I joined a band which I mostly play upright in, and started feeling that I could also use a fretless bass guitar too. That thought nagged at me for a while, and I did my best to ignore it. Chatting with the singer / guitarist in another band I'm in, he thought fretless might add something to that band too - particularly as we sometimes do an acoustic duo version of that band. So this came up. I dithered for a while, and waited to see if my Fender Precision would sell first. Then the seller dropped the asking price of this - so I decided to get it, in case it got snapped up. And boy oh boy, am I glad I did 😀 Being a chambered body, its fairly lightweight, and I like the pickups. It's got a Bartolini and a Piezo in the bridge. Playing around with blending the sounds is great fun. However, it's a busy gigging weekend and I really don't have time to play much - so I'm having a quick rehearsal, jamming along with our album, playing this bass. I think I may even take it to the gig this evening, or tomorrow afternoon.... maybe even Sorry, no pics at the moment - my phone is really slow today, so I'll add them later
  9. I had 2 Classic Vibe P basses. And both were absolutely lovely basses. The necks on both were really really nice, particularly on the earliest model (China made) pale blue P. I think the approach of keeping the neck you like, and finding a lightweight body to use it with, is a good solution. If you have a P and a J body, from the same factory, made of the same wood, usually the J body would be slightly heavier, due to its size & shape. Sorry if this sounds obvious.... If you like a hint of J sound, then you could seek out a Squier PJ body. Perhaps even adapt that to take 2x J pickups, if that's your thing? EDIT: There is a PJ model in the Indonesian "Vintage Modified" series. I've owned a couple of Jazz basses, the lightest being a lovely Roadworn series. I'm sure I once spotted lightweight bass bodies on eBay? But you could look at the suggestion above, and enquire about chambering the one you have. Let us know how you get on.
  10. Oh, that first brave step! Best of luck with this project. I'm looking forward to seeing it progress. What a cracking find. Great news re the pickups too
  11. I Put a spell on you - Screamin' Jay Hawkins
  12. Goodbye Toulouse - The Stranglers
  13. It really is a stunning bass. It's the best P bass I have ever played too..... if it were not for my ageing back / shoulder etc I would be keeping this. It's my favourite colour too, especially with that Tort plate. If it doesn't sell just yet, I won't be upset - perhaps I can justify keeping it for noodling at home....
  14. These necks are absolutely brilliant (if you like a 44mm nut width - this might be the neck for you). Lovely build quality and finish. Personally, I think it looks superb on that body... I'd leave it there But if you don't GLWTS
  15. Chinese Rock - The Ramones
  16. Waterbound - Rhiannon Giddens
  17. But my cardboard bass is the most comfy and lightweight to play. Sounds amazing too 😀
  18. Since getting my Dano, I later saw this ad.... and I have wanted one ever since! They look uber cool, with that f-hole. That red is a great colour too.
  19. I'm going through a similar phase. Thankfully for me, I've not been suffering with back pains. For me, it's an aching left shoulder - and that sometimes lasts through the next day. Also, the fingers on my left hand are "feeling" those stretches a little more. So I've been gigging short scale more. My Danelectro Longhorn is an amazing bass! It's short scale, yet it seems like it isn't, somehow - as it has more frets than say a Mustang. It also sounds brilliant, and is hollow bodied - and light as a feather. I also have a SS Headless Ibanez (EHB 1000), which is also stupidly lightweight. I have also worked on acquiring lightweight amp gear - and that's another story... If you want lightweight 34" scale, then maybe a Fender P Lyte, or Aerodyne Jazz? Good luck with your search, and let us know how you get on 😀

    Howdy!

Welcome to BC. Enjoy the forum - but beware of the marketplace.... it can be oh so tempting! 😉 Nice looking bass.... too many strings for me - but looks great all the same 😀
  21. I play in several bands, each being a quite different genre to the other - which I like, because each challenges me in a different way, and I really do like different genres of music. For my 5 piece rock, Reggae & pop covers band, I use a Markbass 2 x 10, along with an Epifani UL 1 x 10 (with tweeter). The amp head I used was a Markbass EVO1, because it is dual channel, and I sometimes need that. For a folk / Americana trio with fiddle & guitar, I mostly play upright (EUB) with some songs on bass guitar. For smaller venues, the Epifani 1x10 was my usual cab of choice.... However, Since getting my Acoustic Image, Double-shot cab, that has taken over. It's a 4 ohm cab, and using it with my Peavey Minimax head, I get the full output from the amp, using just that cab. The Doubleshot really works well with acoustic, folky and Americana style music. It also works really well with my African / folk crossover band, where I play either acoustic upright or EUB. I'm not using the EVO1 head so much these days, as I'm preferring the Peavey. I can get the sound I want from the EQ on the head, and get the 2nd channel, and even more EQ control from my Stanley Clarke acoustic preamp pedal. Re swapping between pick playing and finger style, I like the different sounds I get from each, and choose the style for each song. I sometimes need to adjust the volume just a little, when swapping between the 2. The AI cab really does suit most styles of music though - not just acoustic, folky stuff. I sometimes use it when the 5 piece band has to squeeze into a small venue.
  22. Thanks Paul. Yes, I'm a sucker for Tort, but this one has a really nice shade of red to it, and it just looks great with the Fiesta Red of the bass. I'll honestly be very sad to see it go - but it's not earning its keep anymore, now I have 3 short scale basses that I gig with regularly.
  23. 25 O'clock - The Dukes of Stratosphere
  24. Time has told me - Nick Drake
  25. Price drop: £600. Xmas sale price- now £575. EDIT: I'm now based in Barry, South Wales, not Cardiff. I can't quite believe I'm selling this bass, as it has been my favourite ever Pbass, and I've owned quite a few. These have been discontinued a few years now. They are amazing basses. This one sounds absolutely immense, and the neck feels lovely to play - really smooth. It has great sustain. These were made alongside the superb Roadworn series, and they were amazing build quality too. Wish I could have justified keeping my Roadworn Jazz, and Roadworn P - but i can't justify keeping too many! So why are you selling it? I hear you ask. Well, it's mainly because I'm mostly gigging with Upright, and short scale bass guitars. Age has started to dictate that I need less weight on the left shoulder, as I'm playing some long gigs. Also, I'm tending to prefer less stretching for my left hand fingers too.... sadly. It weighs just a shade under 4kg, if memory serves me, and the nut is 44mm wide - and it's not overly deep, front-to-back, so doesn't feel too chunky. I did try a couple of slimmer necks on this bass, inc a US Jazz maple boarded neck, and an MIJ neck which was slightly slimmer. However, nothing really sounded as resonant, as punchy, or as snappy as when this original neck is on the bass. I guess they get the matching just right in the factory? EDIT: also, maybe the wider neck gives the bass more punch, or low end? Both maple board necks had more snappiness than the rosewood, and it the low end really was more defined with this neck than the US Jazz neck.... Currently strung with my favourite TI flats, which are about 2.5 years old, and nicely bedded in. I could put a set of rounds on it, if you prefer - but I would urge the buyer to try the bass with these flats... they really are superb. This bass originally had an anodised gold scratchplate, but I just preferred Tort. I don't have the original plate, but you can get them easily enough on eBay. There is a small scratch / ding on the upper edge, near the back of the body. This is from the previous owner. I gently sanded the edges of this, to stop it catching on my shirt. No trades thanks. I need to thin the herd. Collection from Cardiff, or I might be able to meet. I much prefer to hand a bass over, and give the buyer chance to try.
