Solid State Amps being... "recently serviced".
Twincam replied to Coilte's topic in General Discussion
Recently inspected to me means been opened cleaned and given a once over by a tech. Recently serviced means or should mean that upon inspection something was found to be out of spec or in need of replacement. And that work was then carried out. -
Does the bass has a dual action truss rod? Essential really when fitting low tension strings as you can add relief.

I've voted. My favorite being elephantgrey's entry also voted for agwin and Leonard smalls. We really need to get some more entries next time.
-
Oh and if its rattling on an open E its possible the nut is cut too low too!
-
The yba1 is a pretty old amp. I assume its a 70s one. Great amps and Pete Traynor in my view was a legend. Has it been serviced recently. I have had two traynor amps a bassmate which I loved and a yba1 that I had very briefly. They were not particularly noisey amp and both could take pedals

Disappointed in the lack of entries!
Here's a gently spiky noodle - Wal into dbx compressor into 3 leaf envelope filter into Ableton 9 via Focusrite 2i2. https://soundcloud.com/leonard-smalls/vermicelli
Primus!
Had some time to noodle today, short one this month, messing about with some chords. https://soundcloud.com/asambique/chordoodle/s-vTk4J
Must say really like the "beautiful" playing. Sounds very French tho
Here's my modest effort this month. Didnt have much time to work on it or expand the idea at all. Just turned on garageband, added some compression, and pressed record. Here it is: https://soundcloud.com/tona-fied/noodle-funk Enjoy
Rage against the machine?
Ok, late to the party this month. Cort Curbow 4:1 all strings down a semitone from standard into Audacity. There are a few fluffs in there because I attempted it at 192 BPM to get it in at 60 seconds. It’s a lot easier at a more sedate 180 BPM but I thought it might be fun to hear me struggling a bit! https://soundcloud.com/agwin/baroque-a-noodle-doo
Really like that too!. Hard to explain why. But would it be sad if I can guess your action height and which fret is a touch high on one side than the other! Lol. But yeah raw, not complicated.Great mechanic sound
Kinda cheating... but this is the only way I'm going to scrape an entry!... so here's a section of bassline from my Composition Challenge track this month: http://soundcloud.com/skol-mixes/bass Acoustic fretless with tape-wound strings. Recorded 'dry' with about 3db of compression applied and much the treble rolled off. Well done to everyone who's entered this month - and to all of y'all who keep this challenge going! I'll post up the voting thread sometime on Sunday evening.
Liking that!. Very deep but again a 90s detective theme going on maybe lol. Very cool though!

Just to say the traynor yba1 is a great amp. Basically with such am amp you want a cab that projects the amps tone. But the any half decent amp will sound great with that head. Maybe I would stay away from sterile cabs or cabs that add a certain tone.
-
Ok. Has the bass ever been set up? (Correctly) Also string wear is mostly for the better sounds like the bass hasn't been played. You would be surprised how the tone and feel can change with time. Yes can lighten the body. In many ways. Yes can change pre amp and pick ups with no bother. And it would change the tone. What are you looking for from the bass?
-
No offense. But they would sound much better without the 60s rubbish.

Twincam replied to winterfire666's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I contacted the seller a bit back. He seemed ok lol. He once said he would sell. He freaked out and back out I did offer £25.000 -
Well in some part thanks to the forum for being there for me And in part as I have some new tools. I want to keep my hand in also. Lol nearly had a bad do in life but to cut a long story short I want to do luthery work. And more than a few people some bc members. Have told me I should go for it. I can do basic setups (to exacting standards!). Advance setup work. Fret work, leveling, re crown, shaping to a customers needs, and 4 stage mirror polish. Fret board leveling, ski jump correction and neck angle correction. Some electrical work. Routing and other mods. I'm very good at getting a nut perfect! Or correcting past setup mistakes. Basically setup wise I can make a instrument perfect. Also I'm experienced in small body work repair. I'm offering free fret work, free setup work. And in detail setup work, frets, relief, action, intonation etc etc. Basically I love getting an instrument feeling perfect or as near so. I do get a real kick out of helping others. So if your in the north east. Or need a neck worked on via post or a full bass. I'm willing to undertake most things for free! Just to test myself, and maybe even gain custom when I make this my profession!. Aidan
...or try a different bass.
Indeed. However I must say you amp, caband bass choice doesn't exactly say defined tone. And what your describing fro.your rig is exactly how it would be.

What have you been playing in the 3 months in between?. Its amazing how another bass, amp or cab can alter our perception of what "bass" sounds like in a very short time. Like when I used a trace elliot combo for a few months everything sounded very different my basses sounded very different I got used to it then went back to an old amp I had for years I actually thought the amp had broken! It hadnt. Or if you used rounds for a long time then switch to flatwounds then go back to rounds and after a while and things can sound very different. Another answer is that even identical basses won't always sound the same. I've had a few p basses (many identical in year and colour even lol) and they all sounded a bit different. Despite me using the same string brand and always having a bass setup exactly the same. On some basses more than others setup differences can change the way a bass sounds not just pu height but the action will change the tone.

Wiring advice on a precision for an amateur!
Twincam replied to JCBass's topic in Repairs and Technical
I think you should as said test the pu as stated in a post above. Buy a soldering iron and the rest of the parts and make one up yourself. However as others have said asking kiogon to make you one up is a good idea also as it will be done right the first time and will be a better job than your first try and it probably won't be as expensive as getting the bits and a decent soldering iron together -
That bit of natural valve compression is great. Don't like anymore than a hint.
-
Its all about the tone for me. But also I'm a snob too. My old 84 aria is a pos too look at and in fact its got some major set up issues too. I could actually fix it and make it near perfect if I wanted. And the string are horrid and old it also has a slight smell haha. However the tone is fantastic one of the nicest bass tones I've heard and its had a lot of nice comments in that vane too. So I would take it anywhere. However if it said squire on I probably wouldn't, its now old enough just to have a slight bit of credit maybe lol.

Practically brand new Gretsch Junior Jet. Seems like it was never played untill I had a 5 min play. I guess someone bought it and never bothered with it. Its in excellent condition. Plays fantastic one of the easiest basses I've played. Never had to touch the setup. Very well built, lovely neck. Now sold! . Surely a bargain (yes I'm calling you surely). Will be sent in a proper outer box very well packaged! Insured extra 48hr delivery.. Will also trade for a little cab 1x8, 1x10, 1x12 or a small 1x15.
