Blimey, a minute isn't long is it?? Oh well. Now to put the kettle on - as per instructions in OP. https://soundcloud.c...9702/noodlecomp
The reverb really worked on that. Really felt it a few times. Nice little piece.

Sorry too hear about the amp. Not good and you have my sympathy. Did you take any pics?

Ok having gone through a load of basses myself here is my way of thinking. First how comfortable I am playing the bass. Neck profile. I prefer thin as possible else I can't play. Body size and shape am I comfortably hold the thing sat down or stood up. Can my arm comfortably get around the body. String spacing does it feel right? Oh pu position I either need the pickups to be in a good position for my thumb, or i need a thumb rest. Can the bass be set up well?. Then is it balanced well etc. If all good only then I look into the tone. If I don't like it most likely it can be changed. But some basses have an inherent tone you can't get rid of completly. Build quality, and esthetics take a back seat for me as long as I can play the thing without it hampering me, that's the most important part of buying a bass. Its tone can be changed but its core playability etc can't be. Although a good set up etc goes along way.

My old aria ive just bought if I pluck the g and totally mute all the strings even the full length the bass. The bass still rings out must be the truss rod? But it really does sing. The pickups are unsophisticated (how I like them) and wouldn't pick up such nuances

Help Needed - someone good with circuitry/soldering?
Twincam replied to Painy's topic in Repairs and Technical
Sounds like it would be pretty cool to have mounted in the bass. -
My whole setup isn't the best ive ever had but actually tone wise ive never been happier. Its fairly simple. Warm and well rounded without being to dark or muddy. And the best thing is if something went wrong or it for stolen it wouldn't be a disaster. So I'm worry free! Well another thing is at least people now won't assume I'm really good at playing lol. There was always a slight hint of panic upon opening the case In front of others.
My £4k custom 9 string left-handed headless with gold hardware and Gary Glitter artwork. Lost a bit on that. Seemed like a good idea at the time.
Ah yes painted and signed by the artist Rolf Harris if I remember right? Lol! -
That's usually not close enough.
Lol agreed unless everyone else was "close enough" too.
A well sorted cheap bass is a thing of pleasure. Great satisfaction of getting good tone and playability for cheap as chips money, sort of an anti-bass
Oh indeed I agree. In fact that's some of the pleasure I get working on them. I think this one is pretty cool. But sometimes, though not always are a higher end instrument is really nice and you can get something more out of them. Personally I think this bass bass the tone ive been looking for. Its just the feel is a little off.

I'm sorry I'm just not getting what you hear and I'm a bugger for hearing noises!. Ok I don't think anything is coming through. Truss rattle, tuning peg rattle will not come through an amp but you will still hear it untill the amp is fairly loud! I've had one of these basses albeit fretted and I honestly can't hear any thing odd even at the end. Like I say I'm a bugger for picking up on these types of noises. Have you tried playing it really loud? Also some basses do have a certain resonance to them. Just like dead spots I suppose. Oh are the strings correctly seated?
Hartke Kilo amp. Bought new for around £800. Died at its 4th gig. Spent next four months taking it back and forth to the distributor for repair where they not only failed to repair it, they also damaged the front panel. Dealt with the Hartke UK top man (via this very forum) until it died a forth time and Hartke completely stopped communicating. Ended up having to throw it out less than 6 months after buying it. Most appalling service ever. In hindsight should have sought legal advice but didn't. Every time I see a Hartke amp now my blood pressure rises.
Not so good -
Must say I'm really liking the bass. Good job!
Bought a brand new EBMM Stingray 5 string fretless in the early 90's for a lot (can't remember the actual amount). I had to sell it to help fund a move abroad a few years later at short notice. Ended up selling it to a shop in London for about a quarter of what I paid for it.
Ouch! -
Let's see some pics! If it's 80s MIJ & you paid £130 you probably got a bargain. Jon.
Not sure about the bargain bit as said I'm putting in some work to get it right. And even then I'm only going to do a just about good enough job on it, although it will be "right" when done. Its not so bad if you bought new as you will always lose money or enjoyed the item. And I'm getting a lot less the 50% back which really should be the minimum for an item that is aesthetically good and is in good working order. Me I also traveled for the amp. Pissing gf off. Overpaid also kissing the ex off. Put in money. Then bought a totally different amp again kissing the ex off lol. All round it was a bad move lol. -
This is to make me feel better. I bought recently a late 70s wem dominator for 440. In mint condition although it had some mods and I also put in 100 pounds of new parts. What I was thinking I don't know it was a moment of madness I knew I was overpaying too. I wasn't skint tho so thought why not. Sold for 170, I need the cash so it had to be and I need the room now too. Worst monetary loss ive ever had on anything actually. Ah bugger. Oh I did sell the speaker separate replaced with one a had lying around (much better!) for 80 quid but still. Ah well
I'm a bit surprised to see PCB-mounted valve sockets at the price those things go for!
Indeed. Although if your not throwing the amp around or your not tube rolling every week I don't think there would be an issue.

I would like to see a gut shot of the amp if possible. There a gut shot thread here http://basschat.co.uk/topic/73929-amp-guts/page__st__60
Ampeg Heritage B-15n guts and internal organs.....!!!!! But dare I say I'm a little disappointed, don't know why but they cost so much and while I'm sure there's nothing wrong with the design etc. I almost expect to see something magical in there. If you get my meaning. Although top side they really do look the business!!! So much want from me lol
Here's mine this month Almost didn't get one recorded, but luckily(?) i got off work early today so i here it is. HB Deco 6er, through my pedalboard (not going to go into detail unless anyones super interested) and recorded on a zoom H6.
I could really see this working in a song. And it reminds me of something and that normally is a good sign. It also has a rawness to it I like. Very good!
Right looks like I've loads of noodles to catch up on... Here is my attempt this month https://soundcloud.com/robhartley-1/noodle-05wav Wal straight into Boss BR-80 (run flat), both pickup filters fully open and treble boost on.
Really enjoyed this for two reasons its almost like a 70s cop show theme and for some reason like dads entry I enjoyed listen to the string noise, it makes it seem so much more human to me.
