Squier Jazz refinish and mod project -FINISHED
Thunderbird replied to Jimryan's topic in Build Diaries
I love block inlays but IMO I think they will look rubbish on the bass I think it will make it too "busy" if you get what I mean as its a pretty in your face as it is, I think it looks great as it is now -
There is a guy on ebay who sells heavy duty shipping boxes for basses they are 12.99 each that could be a cheap solution? We had nothing at school really there were a couple of old keyboards and a couple of old bashed up 6 string acoustics and a few recorders and maracas only the kids who had well off parents did any kind of proper music such as the violin or electric guitar as they bought there own instruments and did paid after school lessons.
To add to your journey, don't overlook the Vintage brand - they are a brand in their own right, not to be confused with the Vintage Modified line from Squier. They do fabulous 'copies' of the classic Precision, Jazz and Musicman models. They are extremely well made with high quality hardware (tuners, bridge, knobs) and great pickups, as well as being very cost effective. They are distributed by JHS Ltd (www.jhs.co.uk). Cheers Geoff
This I have a Vintage and it blew my Squire away and is actually a fair bit cheaper than a squire but it is also worth looking in the for sale section on here you could pick up a rather nice used bass in your price range
Given that Thomann has been selling inexpensive basses under the Harley Benton name for a long while (there's a 2007 thread on here), it's surprising that there aren't more on ebay. There's one of their cheaper Jazz basses on ebay as well: http://www.ebay.co.u...=item2c75545b06 It may be my eye, but isn't that a fairly high action?
Its not your eye it is a high action but in all fairness a 2 grand bass can have a high action if it has been poorly set up I am guessing that is whats up with the bass in your picture?
I love the HB stuff. I've had a six string bass from them before which was great for the £130 ish I paid for it, and my main acoustic guitar and ukulele are both HB. Phenominal quality for the money, I wouldn't be surprised if the VM Jazz-a-like is made in the same factory as the Squier...
Pretty much this +1

Does to me also in fact I don't think it is the original neck but some of the Fender guys on here might know a bit better
