1. Ok as most of you will know I have been on a quest to find the right bass and I thought due to my silly hands jazz basses would be the answer with there nice slim necks but I now know that a P bass was the right thing all along for me so I have decided to stick with one P bass and my trusty old Thunderbird I have also been playing about with effects a lot lately and luckily I have found what I was looking for very quickly so all I will be using now is my trusty Boss TU2 tuner a cheap EQ and a couple of OD/distortion pedals I have also been through a few amps and have decided I like my Warwick amp, so I have learnt an expensive lesson as I am sure many of you have done in the past I have also decided that having 4 or 5 basses and lots of effects is not going to make me a better bass player in fact I think it has hindered my playing as I have spent more time messing about with pedals and new basses than actually playing and using the time constructively and actually enjoy my bass like I used to I think I have wasted to much time and money going through gear so I am going from 5 basses to 2 from a big board full of pedals down to 4 pedals and from 3 amps to 1 and hopefully I might start enjoying the bass again so the cull commences lol. Any of you guys been through this and did pretty much going back to "basics" help?

 4.
Thanks for all the kind comments. Must admit, I'm very happy with how it looks, actually better than I expected! Quite interesting actually. I've not cranked it up through the rig yet, only through the Orange practice amp. Initial opinions are that it is definitely more 'woody' than a modern MIA - more old-skool than a new one. It has less P-bass grind, and more of a 'wooly' tone. Still P, but different. The feel is very similar indeed - obviously there's small differences in the price of materials used, but it doesn't feel much to me. I just wish the neck was a little less glossy, my only (minor) gripe. As I mentioned, I had a black one a few years back and loved it - amazing for the price.
Is this the one that's on ebay now? were you not getting on with it?
 5. I have been thinking now can I do this spend the hypothetical money on buying as many cheapish basses as possible and give them to all the kids who want to learn but they cannot afford an instrument? thats what I would do if I had loads of money anyway

 11. I try and listen to all kinds of music but I am a rocker at heart I don't really like jazz music and I honestly don't know why I do find it a bit depressing though
 12. Thanks guys is looking like it could be a toss up between a silver series and a vintage then
 13.
Nope the "Other Half" encourages everything I do, whether I need or want it. She encourages me to go out and gig and to practice and improve. I do the same with her, if she wants new shoes, clothes or a new sewing machine or furniture then so long as we each have the money it's all good. Otherwise we have to prioritise things. I guess I'm really lucky to have such an understand and supportive "other half"
Same here I do very rarely get a telling off though lol
 14.
From the instructions on my bottle of Dunlop 'Fretboard 65' lemon oil: (Note: Not for use on maple fretboards.)
Cheers Turk
 15. Always liked the look of a Gibson grabber or a real Gene Simmons axe bass but it could all change tomorrow lol
 16.
This one looks nice. This guy in Glasgow has sold quite a few nice basses of the years. http://www.ebay.co.u...s-/231073207913
Nice looking bass but is over budget sigh but thanks anyway
 17.
She sounded like my vacuum cleaner.
I bet she sucks up better thank your vacuum cleaner aswell lol
 18.
And I've never has a lesson or read a book in my life and still don't know what most of the notes are.
Pretty much the same here I did have a couple of lessons but found them a waste of time as all my teacher wanted to do was show off how good he was on bass and all he did for lesson plans was download tab offline for me so I gave up and started to teach myself with the aid of books and youtube videos I will have lessons again in the future but I will search hard for a good teacher before hand
 19.
From those above the Vintage basses definitely look worth checking out. I`ve played a Vintage P and it was very nice in the hands. Wasn`t plugged in so can`t comment on the sounds. 2nd hand Squiers are worth a look too - shameless plug time - I picked up a Korean 97 Precision a couple of weeks ago, but having just bought a Duff McKagan Sig Precision something has to pay for it so I`ll be putting an ad up in the week, but briefly, black, tort (from Bass Doc) rosewood, new CTS pots and Switchcraft jack. Will be looking for £140ish. Nice sized neck on it, a mans handful for sure!
I could well be interested Lozz depends on if mine goes we shall wait and see But Im really liking the Vintage
 20.
An older Peavey made in USA,crafted etc. Lotsa bass for the money. Lots of love for these
Good Idea but I am rather liking the look of that Vintage Mr discreet found.
Could you not put a P neck on your jazz if money is very tight, or do you just not like the J? I bought an Aria STB series P for £40, put some 1/4 pounders and a set of Chromes on it and I think it's awesome, very light and well balanced and the Aria necks are superb. There's the Jazz version on ebay atm for £50ish, I'm sure they use the same P sized neck for both.
I am a bit funny about changing necks I just hate seeing a perfectly good bass bitsa-fied (is that a word lol) and really I would like something I could use straight away with no messing
