I do not think it is a Thunderbird pro if you look it only has 3 control knobs and a Thunderbird pro has 4 if I am not mistaken.
In my humble opinion (as humble as we New Yorkers are with our opinions), the only overpriced basses are the ones that don't sell. You see them on the shop walls, dusty, poorly set up, with dead strings, priced reduced several times, and yet, not cheap enough for someone to buy. People will buy most anything if the price is right. I'm involved in the retail end of the industry and that's the reality of MI sales. Just a word about Fodera. The price list linked to above is mostly suggested retail, not selling prices. Dealers give discounts. Nonetheless, they are expensive. I know Vinnie and Joey personally, and, in fact, am quite friendly with Joey (BTW, his last name is Lauricella, not Fodera. That's Vinnie's name) so I may be a bit biased. I live 15 min. from the Fodera workshop in Brooklyn. All their instruments are handmade, with immense care & meticulous craftsmanship. All their components are top quality. It's a small business, but they treat their employees well with a fair wage and excellent benefits and great respect. No one in that shop is getting rich. They all live in middle income, working class neighborhoods. Overhead is high in NYC. Customer service is extraordinary, and every customer that goes to the shop gets either Vinnie or Joey's personal attention and time. All that stuff costs money. Every customer is treated alike and well, whether your name is Victor Wooten or Joe Schmoe. Nobody gets a *star* endorsement deal. The margin is too slim for that even if they had that mindset. They may or may not be your cup of tea, but there is no denying their quality and, seeing as how well their resale prices hold up and how quickly they're snapped up when flipped, their value. I have played several but I don't own one, not because I think they aren't worth it, but because I don't play out nearly enough anymore to justify such an expense even at dealer's cost. Although, you never can tell. I just might sell off most of my collection someday and use that to get a custom Monarch made to my specs and cross that off my bucket list. Last words: Play what you like. If it makes you happy, it was worth whatever you paid for it. Be groovy to each other.
Very well written post +1

How do I get tone knob on my Precision to actually do something?
Thunderbird replied to thebrig's topic in General Discussion
On most basses I have played the tone knob seems not to do much at all. I have always wondered why also -
Pah! Everyone knows that the more basses you own, the better you must be. I balance up having too many basses by only using one finger ...
Me to but it is usually the middle finger I use it when people boo at my crap playing lol
Yeah exactly... I think it's part of our development as musicians to find a bass that best communicates whats we have written to those that are listening. At the end of the day our bass is only a tool we use to play our basslines... Its what we are playing that really counts. I'm still searching for my sound..... Rob
Dont know if I have totally found my sound yet Rob but all I know is if I have lots of toys to play with or keep looking for a new sound I will never find "my" sound I think when my playing standard becomes higher "my" sound will just come one day I hope
I think its pretty normal to go through the entire spectrum of basses until you find the one that suits you. Sometimes it might be the first one you ever tried you end up going back to. This is much more sensible approach than buying a P bass first, never trying anything else and declaring that it's the only bass worth having.... something I see a lot of on BC....
I agree and I know that no one bass can do everything but lets be honest I think it is mostly about knowing your own ability's and finding a bass thats comfortable and that suits your musical style way I see it is no matter how much I practice and no matter what gear I have I am never going to be Billy Sheehan or Flea or any other master bass player I am just going to be "me" and have my sound and just be as good as I can be

Ok as most of you will know I have been on a quest to find the right bass and I thought due to my silly hands jazz basses would be the answer with there nice slim necks but I now know that a P bass was the right thing all along for me so I have decided to stick with one P bass and my trusty old Thunderbird I have also been playing about with effects a lot lately and luckily I have found what I was looking for very quickly so all I will be using now is my trusty Boss TU2 tuner a cheap EQ and a couple of OD/distortion pedals I have also been through a few amps and have decided I like my Warwick amp, so I have learnt an expensive lesson as I am sure many of you have done in the past I have also decided that having 4 or 5 basses and lots of effects is not going to make me a better bass player in fact I think it has hindered my playing as I have spent more time messing about with pedals and new basses than actually playing and using the time constructively and actually enjoy my bass like I used to I think I have wasted to much time and money going through gear so I am going from 5 basses to 2 from a big board full of pedals down to 4 pedals and from 3 amps to 1 and hopefully I might start enjoying the bass again so the cull commences lol. Any of you guys been through this and did pretty much going back to "basics" help?

Classic 50's P - New 'Used' Bass Day From BC!
Thunderbird replied to spongebob's topic in Bass Guitars
Thanks for all the kind comments. Must admit, I'm very happy with how it looks, actually better than I expected! Quite interesting actually. I've not cranked it up through the rig yet, only through the Orange practice amp. Initial opinions are that it is definitely more 'woody' than a modern MIA - more old-skool than a new one. It has less P-bass grind, and more of a 'wooly' tone. Still P, but different. The feel is very similar indeed - obviously there's small differences in the price of materials used, but it doesn't feel much to me. I just wish the neck was a little less glossy, my only (minor) gripe. As I mentioned, I had a black one a few years back and loved it - amazing for the price.
Is this the one that's on ebay now? were you not getting on with it? -
I have been thinking now can I do this spend the hypothetical money on buying as many cheapish basses as possible and give them to all the kids who want to learn but they cannot afford an instrument? thats what I would do if I had loads of money anyway
