New to flatwounds quick question
Thunderbird replied to Thunderbird's topic in Repairs and Technical
It may be that the string is just a bit twisted. Have you tried taking it off, and putting it back on, ensuring that it's twist-free? Alternatively, try dropping it in a pan of simmering water for 10 mins.
Yep I took the string off and refitted but was still the same I don't really want to do the water thing as it is a brand new string and they may want it back to test it or something -
It's a fender Mexican standard in blue agave, but at some point in its life someone has sanded the modern logo off and put a vintage style one on it. Why they'd do that, I've no idea.
Cos if it has a vintage logo it's worth like a billion quids innit
I had exactly the same problem with a set of Status flats. Drop them a line and I am sure they'll send a replacement.
Aha so it is a dud string then? thanks will send them an email -
Might be the Spectracomp I know this sounds daft but some of the Toneprints "did not like my amp" some are great but some do sound a bit farty

Hi all I just put some Status hotwires flats on my bass but the E string seems very dull compared to the other strings I know that flats are not bright and zingy but I can really hear the difference when playing and the E just seems very dull compared to the other strings it almost sounds like a dead round wound I have altered the pup height to see it that helps but it did not really so is this normal with flats? is this how they should be? I am thinking that when the other strings dull down a bit it may sound OK but having never used flats I am not really sure if this is normal so thought I would ask you guys Thanks in advance

I always use Paypal gift for people I know on the forum but if some one wants to pay via bank transfer or as a paypal sale that is fine with me and I always give the buyer that option via PM and let them know if they pay as a non paypal gift that they have to cover the cost And I always give my address and phone number and coupled with much good feedback shows buyers that you are not a con artist and have nothing to hide

This is the case with the 3 closet shops to me unloved stock coupled with bad attitudes and I think this is why a lot of people now shop on line now as well as much cheaper prices
Sorry, I'm not not trying to be difficult here but, just to be clear, from what you've followed up saying, you don't know anyone in the music retail industry that complains about online retailers whilst living in large houses, driving flash cars and not caring about new young customers?
Yes some are if you re read my post I said" no not all but some are"and some music shops I know of treat youngsters appallingly I have seen it and pulled the owner up and not used the shop again .For what its worth I don't think you are being difficult you are only trying to voice your views the same as I am Anyway sorry for my thread derailment guys
-
No but that some are and I know from a lot of the young people I help out they feel intimidation from going in most shops around here as they get ignored or the piss taken out of them etc I know not all shops are like this so please forgive my generalisation
Which firms are moaning and have owners living in big houses and driving sw***y cars? Just interested because I've never met any of them. I'm not doubting they might not exist just interested to know who they are?
Many firms even big firms where I have worked say the have no money but bosses and directors always seem to do all right in general IMO
-
I am going slightly of topic here but you hear all these firms moaning about there trade suffering and that they can;t compete with on line firms but yet the directors and bosses all seem to live in big houses and drive big sw***y cars so things obviously are not as bad as they make out. And also it is not just about Thomann being cheaper they have great customer service unlike many shops here that dont give a monkeys about the young kid with a tenner to spend on strings and just want to sell high end gear at a nice profit I am afraid lots of so called music shops are there own worst enemy
I have a Jazz as well (though don't play it much these days) and that is a gnat's under 39mm, OK if i don't use the heavier strings I prefer on the P. Still tying to convince myself I don't want it....and failing so far!
Go on Dave buy it then I can stop looking lol and with my headless I cured slipping off the end by wrapping a bit of old wrist band over the end until I was use to it
