Yeah when I recorded my lil youtube vid we set up a camera, played the sound direct to desk which was being recorded on Digital Performer (but you could use anything) When we finished we grabbed the video and the audio as two separate streams and synced them together in iMovie (but you could just as easily do it in Windows Movie Maker). Mike's idea of a 4 bar count to aid syncing is good, wish I thought of that because it took a bit of luck getting it spot on. It worked really well and we didn't have to rely on the quality of the mic on the camera and/or acoustics etc. Let us know how you get on. I plan on doing a couple myself now that I have a new computer based recording package. Cheers ped

Yeah that was a beaut. It's all about the neck relief in my book. Get that as flat as you can and tickle the bass! I have only found this possible on a couple of basses - The Vigier, the Marleaux and the Bacchus, because the fretwork was so good.

Problem for me is that because my action is so low, smooth and fast, and the bass is so responsive to every touch, when I play another bass which pretty much always has a higher setup, I sound awful. I feel like my hands are numb or something! I guess I am crap at playing any other bass than my own!! Quite interesting to note how different people play though - I play REALLY lightly and my friend Chris really digs in. It sounds great, too - but we are useless on each other's basses!! I think he meant in the context of starting a topic about it on a forum as opposed to just thinking it to yourself. I am not having a go, you understand, but the idea resonates with me, at least.

There was a similar thread on TB recently (that was locked...) and one guy said something fairly wise "If you were happy with what you have, you wouldn't criticise what you don't" ;0) ped

This topic comes up all the time when I visit watch forums. So many people say 'why spend a few grand on an automatic watch when a £10 quartz keeps better time?' Half the time you can't even see my watch because it is under a cuff or something. I don't care if nobody notices, I didn't buy it for anyone else - but it is something I can be proud of, something that serves as a reminder of a milestone in my life and a piece of engineering which I am fascinated by, but 99% of the people I meet would be getting a straight jacket ready. With 'custom' basses the same sort of thing is true - the pleasure comes from playing and owning a comfortable, quality instrument made often specifically for you, the way you like by someone you feel understands your approach and unique style - you are more than a customer.

I use 40-100s on a neck with almost no relief and a 1.2mm action at the 12th fret. No buzz anywhere but a lovely clank when I dig in. I play pretty lightly and like my slap to come out at the same volume so the sound is really consistent. Graphite neckage helps this setup obviously and I haven't touched it for years. I normally play in a studio but have to say I play with the same velocity live so I certainly won't be touching mine! Hi mate I had an HCM60B ages ago and it was excellent. Quite heavy by today's standards but a great sound through a single 12" speaker. For £65 I would say it is a bit of a bargain. The 60B sounded very loud for a 60w amp. ped

Looks like another fantastic day. I was at some horrible wedding but shouldn't have bothered, pretty much split up with the girlfriend on the day anyway so kicking myself. If I had known there would be lab puppies I would have been over come hell or high water. Huge thanks to everyone involved, spreading the message and good vibes of Basschat. I reckon 'bashes' however big or small are a big part of what makes us such a friendly and honest community. Honestly this bash sounds absolutely idyllic. I can't think of a better way to spend a sunny afternoon. Lots of nice gear there too by the looks of it and it would have been great to have met you all. Cheers ped

I am sure it will do! I am just giving it a once over and I will record some stuff with it next week for fun. I just finished playing it now, it makes a good 'training bass' because it requires more effort to play. It sounds cool, too. Cheers ped

Do they both have truss rods? A neck without one will sound different, but it is then more important that the neck profile and relief is to your taste. Can you try either of them?

Aye, at some point... No idea what price to ask so will research it. Probably not a great deal though!
