The joys of promoting your band on social media to friends
ped replied to Cat Burrito's topic in General Discussion
I can’t be doing with friends and family coming to gigs. I don’t want them or me to feel awkward like they have to come or pretend to like it. I must admit I rarely go and see bands live now, either. I’m scared to leave the house in case the TV licence man is outside. -
Tone Hammer 210 combo.... Looks nice. 🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶

Great points. I can see this working in home studios and practice rooms etc but only if everything is on the front. Particularly the power switch. I’d do exactly what you say, put big aluminium skids on the rear and wheels on the bottom, with a lid that incorporates a handle for tilting and wheeling. -
Is that the piano you’re playing now

What’s ‘Eco Mode’? Does it make it cheaper? 😁 -

It would be cool if it had wheels. I wonder if it’s a bit tricky to move otherwise, I could be wrong and not sure of the weight but it looks as though the height and handle might make it a bit awkward. I like the look though. I’ve always liked combos for some reason. -

Quite like it when people big up amplifiers by saying they have loads of bass, tons of mids and great treble -

Looks quite cool but hate the name. Tone Hammer. Reminds me of the fad where everything bass had to be MAX or have the letter X in it at least. -

Unfortunately not but I just chop down a standard set. That works fine, even on the skinny posts of the Musicmaster. -

Elixir strings last over a year for me. -
Messy or not, what's on your (music) work desk right now?
ped replied to kiat's topic in General Discussion
Something like this for sure. Retro monitors mounted at an angle. Like from a James Bond film. Bonus points if you have facial recognition software which prints out pictures of Chick Corea -
Epic 🥳 so the tall font muff didn't make the final board?

Hi guys Just a heads up for those who don’t know about https://www.mormusic.com/repairs/ Phil travels around in his van picking up repairs and custom jobs all over the place and is well worth a look. Very easy, no hassle and a brilliant service (normally under a week). We just had a chat about music retail generally. Mad to hear that he makes more money setting up a fender bass than by selling one these days. Get in touch with him if you have anything that needs fixing or customising. This is not a paid endorsement!!

Headphones are a guilty pleasure of mine. I use beyer dt770 for playing precisely because they don’t bloat the bass end so there’s a lot of ‘space’ for playing along with music. I find cans which are designed for pleasurable listening sound too crowded for bass monitoring. For music I have a set of Yamaha YHL700A which are not well known but absolutely fantastic. I can’t say enough about them - I rarely use the cinema modes but the soundstage and weight of the bass is perfectly judged especially using the listening care setting which reduces perceived low end loss at low volume. With ambient noise setting on, it’s like having some lovely speakers in the room. Yamaha have recently released a slightly paired down version, the yhl500a which I think have the same audio but benefit from multipoint Bluetooth. They don’t have ANC and don’t fold etc so they are designed more for listening at home. They’re only £150ish. Most reviews of the 700s are less than perfect due to the lack of convenience like no multipoint Bluetooth and weak ANC but all I care about is the audio quality, and they excel against anything else I have tried. I bought loads of top rated headphones from Amazon and returned them all - Dyson, Focal, etc. They either didn’t sound as rich or were way too tight. Some had amazing ANC (Dyson) but it depends what you want. It seems as though most manufacturers cater towards people who want touch controls or for their headphones to pause when they take them off, stuff which imo is pointless if it’s at the cost of better sound.

This is the only clip I’ve recorded of mine. I’ll do some more! It’s used very subtly here, just a very smooth and wide envelope. I turn it on at about 1:15

Doesn’t that hurt?

I'm tempted to get one to compare to the original but I'm scared it'll be as good which will be discombobulating
