Jools Holland Show - Still Worth Watching?

Here is a youtube clip of Mariza, following my previous post. Its not the song I was referring to (which was on at the end of the show and much more brooding) but give you an idea -
Jools Holland Show - Still Worth Watching?
Clarky replied to spongebob's topic in General Discussion
I watched it last night - was generally unimpressed with the fare but the Portuguese singer Mariza and her band were mesmerising! Was that a mandolin? Sounded incredible and was paired with a very emotional vocal performance. I am going to check her music out. Said it before but that is one of the reasons I think this show is still valid - every so often a band comes on I have never heard of and it makes me go 'wow' -
I bought this tiny-teeny amp only a week or two ago from Born2BMild (aka Phil of BassGear) to use as a stand-in power amp for use with my DB preamp. Unfortunately, while its a great little rock amp for electric bass, it colours the sound too much to work well with a DB. And I tracked down a Mesa Walkabout to cover my rock needs (should never have sold my old one). The Headlite comes with the rather nice gig bag and is in good rather than great condition (scratches underneath from being rackmounted I guess; the front panel though is flawless). I paid £450 and would like to get this back or close enough. Its beefy enough on its own (400W) and would also be a great gig-bag backup amp too. Anyone? BTW, new these are £599 at BassDirect, so this is a 25% saving on new. Would also trade against an Acoustic Image Focus SA power amp, although these are rare as hen's teeth so its an ultra-long shot. Ideal as a stand-alone amp in a head/speaker rig or partnered with the amplite™ – a matching 400-watt power amplifier – in a multiple power amp rig, the headlite is an extremely versatile performance tool for stage or studio. Thanks gents. Actually a BC'er local to me has proposed his drummer (who I have met and seems like a lovely guy, and has even seen Rattlin Bone live) so I will have a chat with him first
Do you know, when I'm feeling a bit down in the dumps, I follow Clarky's and Beedster's for sale ads. The pair of them are class acts IMO
We just ping things back and forth to each other in the guise of FS ads when we get bored -
Damn you and your ever-changing gear needs Clarky! Right mate, if you're prepared for me to juggle a few things over a couple of days, and as this is without doubt the best piece of DB amplification kit I've used, can you put my name on it and we'll sort things over the phone or PM at the weekend? If you get a better offer in the meantime though, please feel free to take it C PS we might as well accept the reality of the situation and simply share all our gear mate
lol! This is now on hold for the Beedster! -

My lot, Rattlin Bone (see link in my sig), are a 14-piece "voodoo swamp blues" outfit with an album out and decent airplay. We have one major problem which is that we are geographically diverse (guitarist lives in Falkirk, rest of band divided between London and Bognor Regis/ South Coast) which means we only tend to play irregular, biggish gigs which are fairly well paying (divide the money between 14 people with travel expenses and it doesn't go a long way) and we barely ever rehearse, or our rehearsals are missing key people. We want to play a bunch of regular-ish, smaller gigs in London (12 Bar, Water Rats etc) as a 'diet' version of Rattlin Bone with maybe 6-8 of us plus backing tapes, as the front man, DB player (me!), and main brass people are all in London. Unfortunately our great drummer, who lives in Chichester on the South Coast, is not up for this so I wondered if anyone knows of a reliable, decent drummer that would fancy playing maybe 6 or 8 gigs a year in London with us? The drumming is quite percussive, rarely fast and slightly out of the ordinary (not many 4/4 boom-crash songs in there!) Would appreciate any leads as we are playing the 12 Bar in June without a drummer (will have to use tapes) and have already turned down a couple of other London gigs due in part to the non-availability of our regular drummer. Here's a reminder of what we are like:
Bought Rich's Status S2 5 string headless this week. He said it was the prettiest S2 ever made and he's not far wrong. I've dealt with Rich a few times either buying or selling and he's always a true gent and never any hint of a problem. Always a pleasure to deal with.
Shame he seems to have taken a bow from posting regularly on BassChat as he's knowledgeable, funny and a nice bloke

Not sure between two - it was either "Crocodiles" by Echo & The Bunnymen or "Ceremony" by New Order/Joy Division - on an Aria Pro II bass c.1980/1
-
I am in the 'go for it' camp - there's little to be gained from the alternative and - if you fit with the band at the first gig - the question of mucking you down the line most likely won't exist

I have recently bought the newer Acoustic Image Series III Coda combo (which has two channels) so my Series II Contra combo and extension cab are no longer needed. I bought them from Beedster around the start of this year and they are in good condition (with very slight wear and bobbling to the carpet covering on the combo). The combo head had a malfunction about a month ago (the sound stopped in a rehearsal) but AI replaced the faulty components with sparkly new ones (I got the head back from them yesterday; see my thread last night on good customer service http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...;#entry1220953) and it is now in perfect working order. The combo and extension cab each come with a heavy duty padded cover. Based on the latest AI UK price list (http://acousticimg.eu/price.html) the newest Series III Contra combo plus extension cab and two padded covers would run you to a cool £1,700 - here is a good condition, perfect working order Series II equivalent rig which I will sell for £600. Would prefer collection from London or convenient meet-up as I don't have shipping boxes (and it would mean two delivery boxes with the associated hassle and cost!) Please note Marvin Spangles has a Contra extension cab for sale separately but his is the newer SIII cab - I don't want to stymie his sale here! Anyone tried Status black nylon tapewound strings?
Clarky replied to Clarky's topic in Accessories and Misc
They're good..but different. To me they feel a lot lighter than they are...much like Thomastik flats. Very bouncy to play, and fairly bright sounding. My suggestions would be the La Bella or Pyramid versions. Both have chunky sizes but also feel quite soft to play, but both also sound "better" to me than the Roto's. The La Bellas have much better "pitching" and sound a lot cleaner..and the Pyramids sound very soft and warm. Hope that helps a bit..but probably didn't!
Thanks BassBod! The Pyramids are out of stock at the only European supplier I could find (Thomann) and pretty pricey, but sound very interesting. -
Mornin' all. DATING LATER FENDER CIJ. Anyone got any ideas yet? I've got a 57/62 CIJ "P", that I am thinking of selling but can't date it. Where ever I look, the dating seems to stop at around 2004/2005. Look forward to a deluge of replies. Cheers.
If you post the serial number maybe it would help? Especially if someone on the site happens to have a nearby serial number and knows the age of his/her CIJ/MIJ bass????
