Norwegian Fodera owners: Urgent plea for help
Clarky replied to Born 2B Mild's topic in General Discussion
It's a bit like getting a bass from Rome to someone playing in Paris, but with smaller roads and less flights
OK, I stand humbled on my knowledge of Finnish geography -

BC'er Joona (site name bassotaiteilija http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showuser=12160) is in Helsinki and has a lovely Fender CS 64 Jazz (that I sold him!). He was on the site earlier today so maybe PM him? Edit: I know its not a Fodera but better than no gig at all I guess - I have PM'd him -
If I didn't already have a build ongoing from Robbie at RIM I'd be round your gaff in a shot and no messing. All I can do is hope that you get the right result in the end Clarky, sale or no sale.
Right now matey, I am extremely loathe to sell this on. It really is so easy to play and so great sounding. My leaning is to keep it and to be more careful with spending in the next few months. Oh and to sell one of my kids into slavery

Just wow! Unlike some brave others I am not even going to try to copy this!!!!
-
Spent some time playing this last night and am wondering if, my recent overspending notwithstanding, I will later massively regret moving this on. Its so ridiculously playable! Hence I am withdrawing from sale for a few days to consider alternative plans of action and whether I should keep this bass regardless.

Sounds like a plan TNIT! If that doesn't work out I can recommend a Tom & Will padded gig bag, about £150 with loads of pockets and handles/straps http://www.normans.co.uk/p-2719-tom-will-d...gbag-black.aspx
+1 All the best with it Clarky...hope all is OK!
Thanks Nik, 73Jazz and lozbass ... and of course Beedster Find out tomorrow if Mrs C needs surgery on her ski-damaged knee - unfortunately insurance policy excesses and exclusions (including all equipment such as wheelchairs, crutches, knee braces etc) mean her accident will have cost in excess of a grand which, together with other unbudgeted-for spends (extra DB amp when my last one failed, kids school trip to France etc) means this gorgeous bass has to go

Yes I know .... no p*ss taking please. I had been searching for a while for a fretless Wal and it does not disappoint. Its extraordinarily playable, has a beautiful range of tones, and is in truly immaculate condition (difficult to tell from new). However I have had an expensive time recently with some rather large and unexpected bills (including medical ones for Mrs C that are unlikely to be covered by insurance) and a £2.5k bass that was really a luxury is the one that has to budge, given I will not sell my YOB Precision come hell or high water. I only got this a month or two back from The Bass Gallery in Camden and its still as immaculate as when I got it. Specs are that its walnut faced (with a mahogany core), ebony necked (with side marker lines and dots but not full lines), has a Mk II body shape but a Mk III (downsized) head and Mk III neck joint (countersunk bolts, instead of old-fashioned neck plate) - thus its a Mk II/III hybrid. I have converted back my (considerably less valuable) '71 P/J to fretless so that can cover my fretless needs. Comes with Hiscox hard case. Made in June 2004. Cost me £2,500 and I would like that back please as it seems an entirely fair price based on other Wal sales on BC plus the fact its absolutely immaculate. I know its not the time to be selling expensive basses but these don't come up often. Given my recent outgoings, no trade offers please. Can be collected from London or I will post at cost. In the end I decided the original tort guard was too impractical (what you couldn't see from photos was how much it arched outwards along the top surface, leading to a sharp edge to catch palm or fingers on). Here it is with a celluloid tort guard I bought from the US, made in the early 1990s and nicely patinated and yellowed at the edges. Its much easier to play the bass now and - with La Bella Standard Flats on it now - is exactly how I want it. Just gorgeous and (that over-used phrase but true since my Y-O-B can't change!) a definite keeper photo removed and transferred to Flickr (click on link in my sig below)

My Bacchus 62J which Mrs C has unfortunately christened "Minty" Started life as sonic blue when made in 90s and the nitro finish has faded to a sort of sea foam green. Lovely. When I have the time I will be adding a J-Retro to it, recently purchased from Nigel/silddx
imagine seeing one of those in a traditional orchestra Can they be bowed or are they designed for slap?
Having played that bass, its a standard laminate bass with a heavy coat of black lacquer so it should be able to do anything a 'normal' DB can do. That said, as a laminate its better suited to slap and pizz I guess than arco
Well just 'cause I couldn't resist finding out I contacted Martin's to enquire about the starting price on their Hungarian made Concert Model: it's £5k + VAT Oh well. P
So I guess the Concert Small 3/4 (which I fancy) wouldn't leave much change fom £5k either? Think I'll buy a Fodera scratchplate instead for £1k

I have decided which strings I like after much experimenting (La Bella and TI Flats, DR SUnbeams) so this lot are going. All stuffed in a box so will need separating gently but simple enough. How about £15 for the lot posted? Edit: at least 5 sets were cut for a Fender 4-a-side P/J (although I cannot remember if the TI Rounds were cut for this or my old 2-a-side Alembic; sorry but bagged up now!)
I'd like one of these...... Not a 1940s bass for experienced people only
the front man in my band Rattlin Bone has the black lacquered Slap King shown in this link. it looks fabulous and records well ( it's the DB you hear on our album) although acoustically it doesn't (to my ears ) have the same woody tones of my much cheaper Zeller/stentor carved front/laminate back/sides DB.
