1. Thanks Paul, after googling and reading up (and posting the same question on TalkBass) I've come to the conclusion that Prestos are my best bet and the good news is I already have them, so no need to spend any money! Rattlin Bone going well thanks - we did a mini-tour of Portugal, got played on BBC Radio a few weeks back and have a couple of festival dates upcoming (Meadowlands, Upton Blues). Not really sure I could give you any notes as I really am a total beginner on DB - thankfully RB's bass lines are incredibly simple and repetitive. Would love to have a lesson from you in how to slap some time in return for alcohol/monetary inducement!
2.
Oh please don't sell the Bacchus Clarky! Ever since I sold my Woodline turbo 5 about 3 years ago I've told myself I'd get another one day. Funnily enough it had a J retro in it! You'll regret it!
Well I do have 4 basses and soon to be 5 Mind you Mrs C won't let me sell the Bacchus as she likes the colour ( , she insists on calling it "minty)
3. Sold pending the usual
4.
Spot the hedge fund guy!
I've shorted some Animas in the hope of buying these lower
5.
Why? u lazy bugger.. the Audere was just pushing wires in to the connector blocks, and connecting the ground.. not sure about the East? that would have sounded awsome with the Lollars
Partly laziness. Partly as I just acquired wesfinn's awesome Herbie Flowers-inspired '59-alike Jazz (below) and I am not sure I will be keeping my Bacchus
6.
WOW thats a spitting image.. is the Bacchus a passive bass Clarky?
Yep, it is passive - I bought a set of Lollar pickups and a J-Retro to turn it into a super-Jazz but couldn't be bothered to fit them! (J-Retro now for sale )
7.
I wanted to stay as close to the original as poss but ive obviously blown that one, but yeah a pearl would be nice.. or maybe a tort..lots of colour that though.. ha there was me banging on about pointless threads on Talk Bass..
Time to start a poll, B5 PS, very nice bass - I have a similar one looks-wise in my Bacchus 62J
8. Hi all, I have Silver Slaps on both my DB and my Eminence EUB and love them. I like the woody, plummy tone I can coax from them and especially the low tension. However, I am installing a mag pickup on my DB, as I think this would be a useful fall-back if my piezo is going feedback-crazy in my very noisy 14-piece band. Hence I need a steel-containing string on my DB. I have some Presto Ultralights which are similar to Silver Slaps but not quite as nice IMHO. There's loads of Spirocore love out there but how would a Silver Slaps player like me get on with Spirocore Weich/softs or other softer steel strings such as Velvets or Evah Pirazzis? Do any share any of the characteristics I like so much in Silver Slaps (low tension, soft feel etc)? As you all know, buying DB strings is an expensive exercise and I don't want to make a costly mistake here! Thanks , Clarky :-)
9. None more stealth! Great job there mate and the decal must make you grin every time
10. Not only is that a POS, it looks like it was smeared with a POS
11.
That is gorgeous!
As one of the previous owners, I can tell you it is a wonderful instrument of teh highest quality. I sold basically because I don't get on with 5-strings
12. J-B bought my Wal Mk II/III fretless and was a pleasure to do business with. He took the train over from Paris to pick up the bass and paid in advance, despite not knowing me from Adam. Very trustworthy guy and I am happy to recommend him to other BC'ers.
13. I enquired from Tech 21's UK distributors about when the VT Bass 1969 head (a 300W amp containing VT Bass functionality) was going to reach the UK and got the following reply: "I am sorry but since new EC regulations (RoHS & WEE) were introduced, and Tech 21 Bass Amplifiers do not comply, we are mot permitted to import any models of their integrated Bass Amplifiers. The RBI Bass Preamp however is available - this could be used in conjunction with any power amp, recording or sound reinforcement set-up." If Euphonic Audio, Aguilar and other smaller US manufacturers can make their products Europe-compliant why can't Tech 21? I have already suggested in another thread they have missed a massive trick by not making a Sansamp-equipped Class D micro head and this makes me think the company needs some fresh thinking.
14. £150 and its all yours, cheap as chips, cheaper than Primark
15.
Acoustic Image used to do their Focus (400w into 8, 800w into 4 + 1Kw into 2) as a power amp only module. I have preamps that meet my needs but would love a very small power amp which is nice and gutsy. I used to drive a Berg NV610 with an AI Focus 2 and it rocked so I know it has the grunt. Does anyone make just a power amp module of that size?
Hey Owen I ran an almost identical thread a few weeks ago. Basically, there are no inexpensive Class D tiny power amps (thats if you count the Amplite as not exactly cheap). I ended up buying a Markbass F1 on BassChat (off Soliloquy above!) to use as a power amp with my DB preamp - I just plug into the effects return socket. Does the job and also means I can use it with my electric bass through the usual input. Platypus has an F1 FS for £375 right now and I'm not on commission!
16. Of course Keith, they are yours. Could you PM me your address again?
17. these came on my Eminence EUB and I took them off immediately to replace them with Silver Slaps, my favourite strings. So they are essentially as new. £50 posted and they are yours
18. Innovation Silver Slaps are well priced, as far as as DB strings go, easy on the fingers (low tension, gut alike) and sound good to my ears. My favourites. Only for piezo pickups ( not magnetic pickups) though as they contain no metal.
19.
bring it on.... Kay M1, circa 1966
phwoar! Swap you for two pickups Here's my two which are nothing like as porn-tastic - a c.20 year old Andreas Zeller 3/4 ply back/sides, which my old sadly-deceased tutor Phil Bates (Tubby Hayes, Stefan Grapelli) thought sounded excellent, and an Eminence removable neck EUB:
20.
Will he Won`t he?
Simples - I am a passive bass man because I am too thick to cope with complicated controls - so its going! Want it?
21. Thanks for that! So do any of you lovely DB playing people fancy one of these - or both with a small discount
22. Bump for a 99.9% new Schatten RB1 and a vgc TM piezo that are surplus to my needs
23. If anyone wants one - or another one - I have a J-retro FS in near-mint condition http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...p;#entry1231696 Sorry it's slightly off topic but I am an Arthur Daley type chancer
24. Looks like it would do the job Jack (and allow you to put an electric bass through it for those doubling gigs you will be doing eventually ) - see here http://www.gollihurmusic.com/product/1374-...HER_PREAMP.html
25.
Remember though, if you send FOH a signal from your Sansamp but have your compressor in the chain after it, then your DI signal will be uncompressed. Personally I would go into the Polytune first, then the Compulator and then the Sansamp. You can mute both your DI signal and your line signal to your amp by stepping on your tuner whereas if you had the tuner after the Sansamp you would always be heard through the PA no matter what (so if you change basses this will eliminate any popping coming through the PA and would allow totally silent tuning of course) and your signal will have the same original compression through both your amp and the FOH.
Thanks - I like this answer as its the simplest (and cheapest) cable-wise!
