1. Its fastest finger first! I should have got home earlier ...
2. I vote the pikey route too given that you - by your own admission - have broken these before! Besides, more beer money
3. There's only one way to find out ... sorry, someone had to say it
4.
Bugger. Just seen this. Can you arrange your next Capital city outing when it's not my wedding anniversary? I can't afford another divorce!
Sadly I too am otherwise engaged that evening - although I will be passing near Denmark St earlier in the evening (5.30/6pm) if you are there for an early sound-check so I can wish you luck in person?
5. Is there a DB luthier anywhere near Chris? They would be bound to have spare collars/pins lying around in drawers
6. £32 ain't too bad for a whole endpin unit http://www.contrabass.co.uk/endpinunits.htm IF they deliver quicker than the 4-6 days the eBay seller is offering. Edit: but still a hell of a lot if you only need the collar and pin
7.
By the way, has Sam shrunk?
My thought too - I presume he is stood about four feet behind you and drummer-man? Might be able to make this one, depending on whether I can fob the house-bound (due to knee injury) Mrs C off with a chick-friendly DVD and teh promise of my company later in the evening
8. For family reasons, I practice bass at home acoustically (ie, unamplified) so fret buzz does p*ss me off (incidentally I am convinced I play better amplified as a result of practising acoustically as you have to work harder to sound acceptable when unamplified). I try for a pretty low action generally (2.5mm at the 13th) but with some bass and string combinations (eg Tru Bass on my Precision) its just not possible - although there is a separate thread about action and tone which might argue that I shouldn't be trying for such a low action.
9. Love the yellowing of that 76P, discreet. Sounded pretty darn good too at the Jazz Cafe
10. For me, one of the beauties of Jamerson's playing is that he is soloing and supporting at the same time - take Flying High in a Friendly Sky. IMHO there are some great bass solos but they are few and far between and most solos are just showing off chops
11. Just sold Roger a DB pickup - always friendly and clear in his communications so a big +1 from me to the above comments!
12. The one where my old punk band played at The Gaff in Holloway Road, London late on A Monday night to an audience of one - Mrs Clarky
13. Fantastic Gareth - I had a change of genre last year (just like you) and its been the making of me. Hope the next gig is even better
14.

That is drop dead gorgeous - whose is it? A BC'er?
15. The Ampeg AEB-1 s are well cool in my eyes, not sure I'd like to play one but they look wonderfully retro
16. I vote for the unlined too. When playing standing you will only see the dots on the side of the neck and, IMHO, the lines can also encourage sloppy intonation (parallax means you think you're playing on the line when sometimes you aren't), plus unlined looks so cool!

18. Oops should have guessed! Well consider the OP an inadvertent bump!
19. Looks very classy with figured walnut top, Wal-type vibe, albeit different body shape http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Status-Graphite-S1-C...d#ht_500wt_1156
20. I reckon Danny Thompson would be very entertaining and teach me more about DB in an hour than a year of playing on my own For electric bass, would have to be Lemmy! Funniest bass player ever
21. Beautiful bass Chris - good luck with the sale mate. Shall I PM Jase or will you? Kidding! Gorgeous sunburst
22. Here is a youtube clip of Mariza, following my previous post. Its not the song I was referring to (which was on at the end of the show and much more brooding) but give you an idea
23. I watched it last night - was generally unimpressed with the fare but the Portuguese singer Mariza and her band were mesmerising! Was that a mandolin? Sounded incredible and was paired with a very emotional vocal performance. I am going to check her music out. Said it before but that is one of the reasons I think this show is still valid - every so often a band comes on I have never heard of and it makes me go 'wow'
24. On hold
25. I bought this tiny-teeny amp only a week or two ago from Born2BMild (aka Phil of BassGear) to use as a stand-in power amp for use with my DB preamp. Unfortunately, while its a great little rock amp for electric bass, it colours the sound too much to work well with a DB. And I tracked down a Mesa Walkabout to cover my rock needs (should never have sold my old one). The Headlite comes with the rather nice gig bag and is in good rather than great condition (scratches underneath from being rackmounted I guess; the front panel though is flawless). I paid £450 and would like to get this back or close enough. Its beefy enough on its own (400W) and would also be a great gig-bag backup amp too. Anyone? BTW, new these are £599 at BassDirect, so this is a 25% saving on new. Would also trade against an Acoustic Image Focus SA power amp, although these are rare as hen's teeth so its an ultra-long shot.
