Do you have a budget? The Ibanez Promathean gets excellent reviews on here & also worth looking at are Markbass & Genz Benz combos. You could probably replace the TE 4x10 combo with one, I did. Had a Trace 4x10 combo & now have the Markbass 2x10 combo which is far superior in every respect (louder, bassier, clearer, lighter & more portable).

[/quote] Could be any of those, or it could be due to the fact that it's been marketed like that for so long that the marketing dept (whom aren't engineers) don't want to take a chance & just stick with what they believe the average bassist will buy.

You can use guitar pedals & most often they're actually better than their bass counterparts. The guitar pedals I use are a Boss CE-2 chorus (there's a bass version), a PSK SDS-2 Distortion & a Moog LPF (though that's really a keys thing). Bass wise, I have a Boss OC-3 (which has guitar & bass inputs) & a Moog Bass Murf. Some guitar fx do lose bottom end (usually some gain fx), so best to try things or ask on here before buying.

Aaah, but could that bassier sound be due to the fact that the 4x10 had a more direct coupling with the stage & also if it had a tweeter, that wouldn't have been as close to ear height too?

Like TNIT says, it's about space to use them. I don't use chorus if the guitarist is using his as it gets lost in a swirl (pardon the pun), though this is only for a couple of songs. I do use a few fx but the guitarist uses a clean sound (or some synth) & the other musicians are a drummer & a mandolinist/tin whistler. The sound your band is trying to achieve as a whole is what you have to take into account & make the fx fit with it (sorry if that's obvious).

Get yourself a low pass filter & just roll everything back & get loads of lovely dubbiness

Yeah man. I want a BEF & HH & use it in front of the Moog LPF (so I can sweep what the HH does). Whether that ever happens tho.....

If you're making 2x10 cabs, then use 16Ω drivers to get 8Ω cabs. +1 to Mr Foxen's advice. Get the specs of the drivers that you want to have in the cab & make the cabs to suit them & make either 2 1x15s or 2 2x10s (mixing driver sizes gives unpredictable results).

I think if you're splitting it, you need to add some extra power as the CV is ± 5v. So for splitting, you'll either need to build a patch mixer or get one of these... Sorry for the GAS injection.

I'd been trying to find out about doing this. I asked on the Moog forum if a Y splitter would work if I wanted to control 2 parameters by the same amount, but no one seemed to know. Someone did say about getting a bunch of jacks & making a CV patchbay & powering it, but I couldn't find a schematic. I think what you're wanting to do should work. Send James at BOP an email & he'll let you know. My singer has had a few things made from him & is very happy with his stuff.

It depends on what you want to do. I'd have a look at the Soundblox BEF Pro with the Hothand for doing wah & dubstep, or if you're wanting something for those texture things (and dubstep, techno or DnB) have a look at the Moog MF-101 (there's one for sale on here with an EP2). The Murf can get some very unusual fx. I hardly ever use it for it's sequencer, but love it for the filters & LFO setting. The bassline is part of a collaborated project on a Facebook page called Organic Bass Wobble. One of the members there posted a beat & is going to do all the editing & mixing (with a video too). The 6 pointed star things (torx bolts) are usually found inside cars. I used to install car A/V & alarms some 10 years ago & this wee tub was always getting used (& still does).
