I Want You Back

Posh Pinky! It sticks out when I drink a cuppa too!!! It isn't as square as it looks in the video though.
3. OK. I was sitting playing Bach's Cello Suite 1 Prelude & thought "I'm gonna record that". So after 40 takes of fluffing it, I said "sack it" & recorded this instead! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=452iLKXCcbc Cello Suite 1 Prelude shall come at a later date!
4. Very nice! Beautiful bass & lovely sounds. Well done young man! I've liked these ever since seeing Mr Claber's.
5. Why not another LB112?
6. I DI from my combo (LMII head) & have left it on Post so that sound I get isn't completely different to what's coming out the PA. I tried changing jumpers about but left them at factory defaults (I never use the FX loop, though I did experiment).
7. Beaten to it
8. If you lift the lid off your amp, there's 2 jumpers. One for the FX loop & one for the DI being pre/post EQ.
9. I stick my LPF 2nd last in the chain so I can roll off the top end & all the dirt as I wish. Like I said, the Drive can be kept to a minimum.
10. I've only got "The Hidden Land" & it's a superb album with some cool banjo playing (there's 2 words that don't usually appear in the same sentence).
11.
I have to ask... SLF..????
Not sure if you're asking "why SLF" or "who's SLF"? If it's the former, I agree . If the latter, it's Stiff Little Fingers. Redlawman, best thing to do is learn some theory (what notes are & how they fit into a scale & so on). Like's been said, get a tutor (or YouTube). I started on keys some 35 years ago & transgressed to bass, & after 20 odd years of bass I still think of things like a keys player). Unfortunately I can't recall when I couldn't play good as I was born good at playing.
12. As Shep says, get the LPF (& an EP-2). I use mine for just about every style of music & is very useable in a rock situation, especially if you're wanting just bassiness coming through during the verses & opening it up on the choruses to get things rocking & so forth. The drive on the LPF can be kept down pretty low if you don't want drive on your sound, but for rock, why not? I also have a Bass Murf which I love to bits (& it's true bypass with a level adjust for the drive to keep it in check), but I would try one before considering it as it may not be your thing. It is a very unique pedal.
13. I wouldn't pop the 3.5mm adaptor straight onto the end of your mono 1/4" jack & then into your lappy. You'll be shorting a channel. If you're handy with a soldering iron then get a length of cable, a mono 1/4" jack & a 3.5mm stereo jack & just connect the lead to tip & sleeve of the 3.5. Or you could get yourself one of these & connect your bass to just one & select just that channel (Left or Right) in your software.
14. Although last week on Later he was using GK.
15. Fabric spray paint is cheap. Bass Direct are doing some good deals on Genz stuff just now. Sounds like a good day out!
16.
Was it TE perchance? Didn't they claim to have made the first bass-specific 4x10?
I've not checked the web, but I would have thought the config would have been prior to then?
17. Do you have a budget? The Ibanez Promathean gets excellent reviews on here & also worth looking at are Markbass & Genz Benz combos. You could probably replace the TE 4x10 combo with one, I did. Had a Trace 4x10 combo & now have the Markbass 2x10 combo which is far superior in every respect (louder, bassier, clearer, lighter & more portable).
18.
So let's be clear then, 1-either every known manufacturer is unaware of Bills knowledge and needs telling how to do it as he has already stated regarding GK's design department. 2- They have the knowledge and know that it at least could be better the other way and should at least be showing their stacks the other way in some of their brochures etc. 3- Or it's because no one elses 4x10 cabinets have progressed past those from the 70's and actually still sound best the wrong (common) way round?
Could be any of those, or it could be due to the fact that it's been marketed like that for so long that the marketing dept (whom aren't engineers) don't want to take a chance & just stick with what they believe the average bassist will buy.

WITHDRAWN

You can use guitar pedals & most often they're actually better than their bass counterparts. The guitar pedals I use are a Boss CE-2 chorus (there's a bass version), a PSK SDS-2 Distortion & a Moog LPF (though that's really a keys thing). Bass wise, I have a Boss OC-3 (which has guitar & bass inputs) & a Moog Bass Murf. Some guitar fx do lose bottom end (usually some gain fx), so best to try things or ask on here before buying.
20. Aaah, but could that bassier sound be due to the fact that the 4x10 had a more direct coupling with the stage & also if it had a tweeter, that wouldn't have been as close to ear height too?
21. Like TNIT says, it's about space to use them. I don't use chorus if the guitarist is using his as it gets lost in a swirl (pardon the pun), though this is only for a couple of songs. I do use a few fx but the guitarist uses a clean sound (or some synth) & the other musicians are a drummer & a mandolinist/tin whistler. The sound your band is trying to achieve as a whole is what you have to take into account & make the fx fit with it (sorry if that's obvious).
22. Get yourself a low pass filter & just roll everything back & get loads of lovely dubbiness
23. What wires do you have?
24. You mean you twiddled those knobs on your amp that don't relate to "volume"? Hmm, I wonder?
25. That's a tasty wee board you have there Woody (Wee? It's bigger than mine!). In a Punk band?
