Why do people find it so hard to differentiate between active preamps and active pickups?

I'd really like one of these, I sometimes find it hard to find kit that meets my needs and this looks like a good solution, but it'll probably be way out of my price range. The worst part is, it doesn't even look like it's old, it just looks like someone has taken a sander and a lighter and perhaps a few chemicals to an otherwise brand new bass

fair enough! like i say, be on the lookout for mighty mite necks (can be about £60 or so off ebay), or squier necks, in particular the classic vibe or vintage modified ones

if money isn't a huge concern for you, warmoth do some great stuff in the way of unfinished necks and bodies, also allparts do some cool stuff. Mighty mite could also be the way to go for a cheap neck. Get on ebay for that one.

not a lot, i think they were about £200 on GAK, so in a music shop in cornwall, £250 is probably about right

i know what you mean, some of these cheap basses have really nice necks and don't sound half bad!

no basses in my loft i'm sad to say! Just my sister's bedroom and some old tvs!
