Confession time. I must admit that any expensive bass guitar makes me think 'This guy is serious'. I'm embarrassed about it because that's totaly wrong on many levels and my better self doffs my cap to all of you with cheaper basses who are both hugely dedicated and bright enough not to think like me. I'm afraid too that if a guy picks up any bass - hangs it chest high , tucks his arm round the end and extends his thumb parallel to the strings I think 'here we f**king go' and do a runner to the bar. That's wrong too. I'm a dinosaur. Don't know why half of you put up with me.
I agree with you to a point, but i'm always pleasantly surprised (and jealous) when someone gets on stage and plays the hell out of a beginner ibanez or something and gets a really nice sound out of it.
I'm glad you picked that up Silddx, as I was going to let it slip so that I didn't sound like a broken record! Even the heaviest Warwick I have ever owned (solid birds eye maple body) was under 10lb and most have been between 9lb - 9.5lb (and I've owned a few by the way). The dreaded black hole bass commonly referred to as the Thumb bass is still unlikely to tip much over 9.5lb, heavy for its size but no worse than a lot of Fenders and Fender wannabes. In my quest to reacquaint myself with my love for the Jazz tone, I've purchased 4 Jazz or Jazz style basses and 'every' single one is heavier than my 3 main Warwicks! Believe me, Warwicks are no better or worse than 99% of other manufacturers of standard sized/scale basses. There are exceptions to every rule and yes a Bubinga Corvette may be a bit heavier than an Ibanez SR bass or whatever but you can draw that comparison between virtually any two basses. Phew... however I don't think this is the last we shall hear of the dreaded 'Heavy' Warwick theory!
My $$ certainly isn't a light beast, but it's not the heaviest bass i've owned. Plus the small body feels so comfy and i can throw it about like nobody's business

considering most electo acoustic basses sound no different to an electric, i wouldn't bother.
I have thought about a darkstar before but I want to keep the cost down and can't imagine having a use for it on another bass if I sell this one in the future. I have to think of these things cos I have a tendency to sell stuff on the spur of the moment.
Aye, that seems to be contagious on this forum! -
I don't care about the bass, i'd just want an ampeg 810 stack so i could take out the drivers and use it as a boat!
Actually i lie, i'd still want the ampeg stack, but i'd want a steinberger spirit to use as a paddle
-
yeah actually, like you say CK, it was a bugger getting hold of a bridge. In the end i had to get a cheapy aftermarket one off ebay, which came with the wrong anchor bolts (they were metric and the anchors in the bass body were imperial i think), so i had to hunt around to find a couple of bolts to fit with a decent sized head. Did it in the end but they weren't chrome.
why does the top horn look raised? is it just cam-foolary?
raised? the top is totally flat, probs just an illusion
So your going for a sorta Levin vibe with the trans black. I'd like to see how it turns out... probably something like this I guess.
Yum, love that bass. There's only two of them, one owned by mr levin himself and the other by a man in sweden, so yours should be uber special too
-
you probably wouldn't need to take the neck off, if you don't, make sure you mask off the pickups so no wire wool is attracted to them, but it's a fairly simple process. I love the feel of raw wood, if it was me, i'd take it down to raw wood and treat it with gunstock oil or tung oil or something similar.

LOUD buzzing sound coming from amp
budget bassist replied to budget bassist's topic in Repairs and Technical
sounds like a power supply problem -- is it a 50Hz or 100Hz hum? most likely either a loose or faulty filtering capacitor, although it could be other things. times like this it's handy to have an oscilloscope the good news is it should be fairly simple (read: cheap) to fix.
Well done that man, ashdown reckon is was either a crack in the soldering on one of the large power amp caps or a faulty cap, sounds like a relatively easy/cheap fix, amirite? -
Active electronics?? Real differences?
budget bassist replied to Jamesemt's topic in Repairs and Technical
personally i like active onboard preamps, you can change the sound at your fingertips, plus i've never liked the sound of a passive bass much, no amp EQing will change that, they just tend to sound dull and thuddy and you have no real control over the sound, at least not from the bass end. Not my style. -

SOLD! Warwick Corvette 5 string SOLD!
budget bassist replied to woodyratm's topic in Basses For Sale
Hey! It's a beauty mate . Maybe I'm wrong but... actually It's a Warwick Corvette Proline, not a Corvette Standard, which is came with active electronics as a standard. It has a 2 piece flamed maple body instead of bubinga and the neck is not wenge but ovangkol . So I think It's a bit more 'edgy' than the Standard. BUMP!
That body wood is DEFINITELY ash mate. Fairly rare for a std to come in a stain finish but it was/is an option. Also i've managed to ship a bass for about £11 before with royal fail, good luck with the sale, lovely bass. -
cages? dare i ask?

nice one, i hope you were right about that cracking sound being the MDF!
