  1. I'd probably hand him my bass and ask him to show me how he'd play it. If he came back with something like "well you're the bass player" I'd be tempted to pack up and leave, or insert my bass up his backside to the 12th fret.
  2. Good stuff, always love a DIY job, makes an instrument your own. May have to nip wilkos and pick up a couple.

Think I read somewhere that he uses guitar amps for top-end grind, which he tends to have plenty of, but most of the meat is straight from the desk. I figure they're probably mostly just for looks. Better than having washing machines I guess...😉 Rev Willy G resurrected the brand I believe, so that may have something to do with it.
  4. *drool* Don't suppose you like basses produced by the ever popular John Hall... 😁😅
  5. Got a roadworn P and I get pretty close using a sansamp and d'addario chromes instead of rounds. Just can't get on with them.
  6. Ah okay, that changes things. Well, as @therealting says, sand down to wood then oil that baby up. Since it's nitro, a decent grit sandpaper should chew right through it. https://www.premierguitar.com/articles/Sanding_Your_Guitar_Neck_for_a_Smoother_Feel That's a pretty decent guide to sanding, just don't rush and sand too much in one spot!
  7. I've sanded the necks of Japanese fenders before, they were gloss and there was a lot of it, took me a good few hours with a dense grit sandpaper. I don't want to take my nitro finished necks all the way down to the wood so I just give them a go over every now and again with a semi used scotch brite pad. I get sweaty-ish hands too at gigs and I find this helps to keep them smooth. Failing that, maybe keep a small towel to had to wipe down with mid-gig. I find this is the least labour intensive method. Just don't leave it on top or your amp covering the fan or anything... 😉
  8. Yes, the output transformer in my Traynor is the same. Hmm, sorely tempted...
  9. Their website says these only weigh 25kg!? Can't be right surely? Any idea?
  10. My rubbishy bathroom scales tell me it's about 3.5kg, so not exactly back-breaking.
  11. Thread updated, few bits still hanging round.
  12. Yeah it is rather, although I mainly play a roadworn precision so I'm kinda spoilt. I'll update tomorrow morning with a number.
  13. Feel like I have something to add to this thread, might be useful for any future searchers. I've been a chromes user for a while and thought I'd give something else a shot, so I strung a 45 - 105 set of cobalts up on my Roadworn Precision tonight and wow - there's that tone I was looking for! It's deep, punchy and with just enough top end definition. It what Ernie Ball claim is true, the tone should last a while. I felt them to be a little stiff and a bit too grippy at first, however I felt the same way about the chromes so hopefully they'll relax with a few more hours of play on them. As a side note, be careful not to cut them too short, if you have a tendency to do so like me. I'd say that on a fender style bass, you'd be okay with stringing them up right out of the pack, no cutting needed. They really don't give you much extra length to play with. Love the purple silks though.
  14. Sending you a private message 👍
  15. Yeah they're great, but this is doing it for me nowadays! 😁

  20. Watching it also, what he lacks in talent he makes up for in character!
  21. Great thread. As a teen, I had a very tall cabin bed with a ladder and a climb akin to Everest. One morning, on my descent before school, I blacked out for some reason (possibly the altitude) and fell face-first onto my Squier Precision. I split my brow and chipped a tooth. The bass lost the ear of a cheapy tuner which I glued back on, other than that, no damage at all although the wardrobe it was propped against sported a very large gouge down its front. The bass still exists in some state although my brother in his infinite wisdom decided to paint it slime green at one point. 😊
  22. Yep, the medium stages sported the 500w terror bass and the main stage had the ad200b aloft the matching 8x10 all of which sounded great. I've owned the ad200b which was great for the period that I had it and I've been semi interested in getting a terror bass so that experience by no means put me off Orange.
