1.
My teacher did the same, skej21. Dan Quinton (Otis Grand and The Dance Kings). I think the counting thing M@23 mentioned above revelas an aspect that you touched upon. The I er and er 2 er aspect of counting is a great means of explaning the idea of written music but it is NOT a tool you should use whilst actually reading (you would have no chance). You need to get the rhythms in your head so you are 'seeing' them as phrases rather than reading each note. Think 'word' rather than 'letter' or 'syllable'.Proficiency comes with practice (and it is worth noting that, if you don;t maintain the skill, you will lose it).
Cool. Thanks for that.
2. Depends on the cab. My old cabs with metal grills and rat fur I didn't bother as they were tough as nails. Somewhat prettier tolex and grill cloths warrant a bit more protection. Just realised my amp fits perfectly in an aluminium Maplin case too, so that's that one sorted.
3. I started 'Simplified Sight reading for Bass', was wondering, what is the best method of counting when playing passages of different values? For example, for 8th notes I'm counting 1 and 2 and... And when I hit a group of 16th notes I'll start counting 1 e and a 2 e and a... Is this correct, to change it up depending on the value of notes you're reading? That's probably a silly question, but its working for me now, but I don't want to continue if there's a better method.
4.

Blimey. That's a stunner.
5. That might be worth a go at that price! I just found a Dimarzio Tone Zone S which I'm keen to try. Like the matched headstock too.
6. Very smart. I've been thinking about getting one of these as I've got a few decent guitar single coils laying around that I could try.
7.
Good thread. I'm totally over the moon with the Fender Flats, 9050ML. Never tried them until recently, and they have blown me away. The feel amazing, so superb, and not too bright - just right to me. I found some Flats to sound way too dead in the wrong environments, but these are just superb. I've tried a few Flats before, but never really bonded - tried GHS, Chromes, etc., and thought that I'd just be sticking back with rounds - until some online searching tweaked my interest in the Fenders. Highly recommended!
Me too. They feel nicer after a few months too.
8. Crikey!! That rosewood board suits that down to the ground. Lovely. Good find.
9. That's a good looking piece of wood!
10.
You'll end up with an avatar like skej21!
Haha, good spot. I love relic Olympic white, so it could well happen!!
11. Ah crap. Now I'm starting to think about another Precision.
12. I was going to suggest the ToneHammer as even the 500 is unusually light. The 350 must be tiny! But, if the TC ticks all the right boxes, the Tonehammer might not have enough features for you.
13. I had a flick through in WH Smiths a few days ago, I'd agree, it was pretty bad. Certainly not enough content or interest for me to get my wallet out. Its a shame, especially as there are at least two very good guitar magazines and decent magazines on pretty much everything and anything else.
14.
Just being there is like an attraction, sirens and noises, bright lights etc! Enjoy and congratulations too
This. It's just a great place. Soak it in.
15. Did one gig in London with an originals band, it was a complete waste of time. Supported a popular German band in a very trendy part of London. We thought it would be a great chance and all the right people would be there... Well, no one was there! Actually, there were a few, but they couldn't have cared less. The gig cost us money, and efforts would have been far better spent playing closer to home or expanding our online profile. But, looking back, at least we have done it. It's all experience. Just, for us, wasn't particularly productive.
16. What sort of trades are you after? Other pedals? Markbass Compressore? Cheers.
17. Do it! Makes a great 2x12 rig.
18. Looks like good news.
19. I'm new to the Tonehammer - but am loving it so far. It only has semi-para mids, but; they do a great job. I certainly wouldn't say it is lacking in the high end either. It's probably not as sparkly as some - but that's not my thing anyway.
20.
Hey! Talking about my bass without me? hahaha It's a refinish, made by a car paint shop actually. The bass was originally vintage white. And yeah, it's artificial grass!!! LOL
Cool. To be fair, if anyone's playing could stand out and not let a chrome bass take centre stage; it's this dude.
21.
Fender's success was built on the J Bass, P Bass, Tele, and Stratocaster. They're the recognised 4 main food-groups of Fender. Any company would meddle with that at their own peril. It's a fine line. But Fender have and do make many other instruments. The sane thing for Fender to do, really, is to stop producing other instruments that aren't J/P/T/S.
OK, the car analogy was a mistake! I'm not trying to draw any comparisons between the two brands, other than what you have just said. All I was saying was; to suggest that Fender and Gibson are lazy for relying upon a handful of core products is ridiculous.
22. Tonehammer pedal? I've not used one, so can't reccomend it, but I do have the amp, which I very much like the powerful EQ on. But, might be worth a look?
23.
Well, you mentioned Ford turning out the Focus, Fiesta, and Transit. Maybe you're so young that these have all been made through your entire lifetime, but I can remember the Sierra (a real innovation, not to mention pig-ugly) coming into being - and where is that now? So yes, Ford are making the Focus, but it's not something they've made since the dawn of time. Cars are a poor analogy, as bits of wood with strings on don't become completely superseded.
The Mondeo was it's successor, I think? Anyway, the point I was trying to make was that you can't label a company 'lazy' for releasing the same products for years. Those cars are the staples of Ford in Europe and whilst they release other models, that's their bread and butter. You said it yourself, bits of wood and string don't become superseded, so why mess with a product that has worked for years? Like Ford, Fender has produced MANY other products, but the continued popularity of a couple of models attracts the vast majority of attention. Someone, I don't recall if it was your good self, said why not put a preamp in a Jazz?! Which already happened 20 or 30 years ago. Fender have produced some crazy, weird things as times and fashions changed, but the Standard P and J remained.
24.
TBH, If, as the OP states, the seller is a member on here, I find it quite weird that you're all discussing this in public in the first place.
Glad I'm not alone.
25.
And when will they move on from churning out the Model T?
Not quite sure what point you're trying to make; care to elaborate?
