Relicking most definitely exists in lots of other areas, shabby chic furniture, ratlook cars and bikes, ripped and faded clothes, tarnished and dented brass instruments, scratched and faded string instruments, etc. All fair enough, whether you like it or not doesn't matter as it's most definitely a popular style, the one thing that does matter is that Antigua finish exists and only exists in the guitar/bass world and should be stamped out. Even the bizarre world of fashion or the unemployable that declare themselves 'interior designers' wouldn't stoop this low, so what does that say about lovers of Antigua. Wronguns the lot of ya!

An alternative, more visually pleasing approach would be to tie a large, colourful helium balloon to the headstock. The more neck heavy the bass, the bigger the balloon. Thunderbirds generally need a giant rainbow coloured unicorn. 😎

2019 Gear Abstinence Challenge (Updated with 'rules')
Maude replied to Sibob's topic in General Discussion
I've just realised I'm still in, nearly a third of the way through the year and not so much as a plectrum. Ah pants, I've just realised I brought a volume knob for my Yammy BB, but it is so I can sell it so does that even count? -
Les Claypool with his Whamola, Cuica solo at 3:00. Also put to good use in The Chili Pepper's 'Walkabout', fits perfectly with Dave Navarro's wah pedal.

I know it's a little off topic but if you do speak to Troy then thank him for his slowed down play along of The Who's 'The Real Me', it helped me massively when learning that song a few months ago 👍

We supported The Chords UK last night at The Cavern in Exeter, a great underground venue. This video was posted on fb. You'll have to excuse the rather lifeless movement, it was only soundcheck 🙂 https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10157297071293408&id=747093407 Oh yeah, the usual 'best with headphones' disclaimer applies.

Just installed ABP on my phone, all ads gone now. To be fair I don't mind the static banners at the top that we used to get but I can't deal with these type that keep flashing up different stuff while I'm trying to read. I realise that hopefully it'll settle down but Ad Block Plus has fixed it quicker than the ad software team could. I'm quite capable of buying immense amounts of unnecessary tat without adverts to lead me astray 😆 Oh yeah, I forgot a Russian pun....... um....... don't be stal(l)in', get Adblock Plus installed

Yes a 'candy' colour is a gold or silver metallic basecoat with a tinted lacquer over the top to give that deep look, the more coats of lacquer the deeper shade of colour achieved. The Renault colour is a three stage pearl with either a coloured ground coat, coloured basecoat and clear lacquer or coloured basecoat, tinted lacquer then clear lacquer, I can't remember off hand which it is. Mazda also do a red which is a good match for CAR. Three stage pearls are not good for touching up, quite often the correct colour when sprayed looks very dark when applied as a touch up because of the pearl pigments in it. I'd find a good matching nail varnish personally as there will be loads of pearl reds that will match. Maybe a touch of clear lacquer over the top to protect it if you wanted, although try it on a spare bit of wood first to check for reactions in case the nail varnish and lacquer aren't compatible.

It's immense fun and always goes down well, along with stuff from Yazoo, Eurythmics, Duran Duran and other bands well known for their use of doublebass . We'll be debuting our version of 'Be The One' by Dua Lipa tonight which is working really well. 😁 In regards to 'bad' songs, a lot of simple to play stuff is the stuff the crowd loves the most. Two hours of fretboard wizardry might be fun to play but maybe not to watch or listen/dance to for pub/club goers, they're probably not muso's after all and just want some easy good fun. I'm off to learn Waterfront 😉

One of my bands does; Britney Spears - Toxic, Beyoncé - Crazy in Love, Girls Aloud - Love Machine, Katy Perry - I Kissed a Girl, and I'm on doublebass. No that's correct, I have no shame 😁

I like a lot of mids in our Mod band, a lot of bass guitar led songs and I like to be heard. More honk than an angry goose who's just found out what Christmas is all about.

Yes it was changed a few years back as rather than listing an item for £50 and £5 p&p, they list it for £5 and £50 p&p to avoid paying larger fees, (extreme example but you get the point) Or if an auction, put a high postage price, the bids would be less but the same fee avoidance was achieved.

I just look at the combined total, if it's what I want to pay then I'll buy it. I've just bought an item that was £17 with £13 postage, the postage was far too much for the item sent, but the next cheapest, which happened to include free delivery, was £45. To me the split is irrelevant.

Sorry to disagree but hours and hours of flatting and wet sanding and buffing is the result of poor prepping and application of paint.

Making double bass more like an 'electric'
Maude replied to randythoades's topic in EUB and Double Bass
Compressor. We do a range of bizarre covers in bizarre styles. Long story but we were trying Dark Necessities by Red Hot Chili Peppers, I was struggling with the G string sounding weak as I couldn't get a decent pluck due to speed/amount of notes so I tried a compressor pedal that was to hand to help bring the weaker notes up to volume. It worked but made it very electric bass sounding. Maybe worth a try? -
Ooh, I didn't know that 😎

Carbon Fibre Pickguard? Who can make me one?
Maude replied to Bassislife16's topic in Repairs and Technical
Carbon in resin sheets aren't really any more expensive than scratchplate material sheets and aren't that difficult to cut, a bit more care on the h&s front but a jigsaw or router will happily do it and tidy it up with files or sandpaper, you'll only be dealing with thin stuff after all. The big problem I predict is getting a nice edge as the fibres will look rough, the edge would need sealing with lacquer or resin to make it neat. The acrylic sheet with an image underneath sounds much neater to me and would look just as good from a few feet away. -
And Dave Navarro on guitar. It was One Hot Minute era.

We had the same problem with a guitarist a few years back, he was working away and struggling to make rehearsals, but wouldn't practice or learn the material while he was away. It came to head when my daughter attended a gig and while at the side of the stage noticed that he wasn't even hitting the strings a lot of the time, throwing shapes and looking the part but not actually playing as he didn't know his parts. We knew something was up (two guitarists so there was guitar) but we didn't realise until afterwards how bad it was. The problem was he was an old mate of all the band members in their own way, it was his band, he chose the name and got everyone into it. He got me and the other guitarist back into playing after pretty much giving up, a long break for me, and I'm loving it more than ever so really do have a lot to thank him for. We all organised a meeting with him in a pub (neutral ground) and had a good chat and told him it wasn't working. Really horrible situation, sacking someone from their own band but it had to be done. He asked to keep the name and we got another guitarist and a new name, so in a way four of us left his band and he was on his own. I think he loved the idea of being in a band but not the commitment.

I couldn't work out why a guitar would have a rotating outer frame when I saw the pictures. Then in the video I couldn't make out what the brace thing behind the neck and strange headstock design was. Then halfway through the video....... whoa! Cool!

I do have quite a thing going on for a 20th anniversary one. It's purely want and not need so I have to resist.

I must resist this offer. I must resist this offer. I must resist this offer. I must resist this offer. I must resist this offer. I must resist this offer. I must resist this offer. I must resist this offer. I must resist this offer.

I wouldn't even collect that from myself if I was giving it away 🤔
