  1. How do the Chinese get away with building and selling blatant counterfeits? Do copyright laws only apply in certain countries or something? Mr Hall's flying monkeys get all over private, individual sales on ebay etc, yet seem to ignore the abundance of Chinese sellers on Ali-express and the like. This is a genuine question, not a troll.
  2. Maybe speed this up a bit to make more punk?
  3. I never want to hear any of you lot moaning about neck dive again, it's not worrying this little lad one bit, so the rest of you just get over it! Lovely pics @josie and @ped 👍
  4. Late 90s with my rediculous 2x15 plus 4x12 bi-amped rig........ ..... to last month supporting The Chords at Exeter Cavern.
  5. Guys, you seem to be missing the most important part, it has a tone pin............. a TONE PIN. O,M and freakin' G my bass will sound awesome with a tone pin. 😀
  6. Dunlop do the twisty ring with the turny keyhole type, I have a feeling that's not the correct name 😁 They just fit over the original strap pin like a grolsch washer but you then rotate the outer ring to lock the on. I've never had any problems with them and they're cheap, £3.99 a pair on Amazon.
  7. This. I also use the 1mm Dunlop nylon picks, the only down side is they're black, never put it down, it'll be the last you see of it 😄 If you find picks slipping or spinning in your fingers the either score a noughts and crosses grid into them with a Stanley blade or drill three or four small holes in the centre of them. Some people will tell you to play with the thickest pick you're comfortable with, others will say thinner's better. The correct one is the one that gives you the sound and feel you like.
  8. Seriously though I can totally understand any site or company not wanting to get involved in the sale of Rickenbackers due to fakers being offered, but to restrict the discussion of Rickenbackers is a bit silly. Sure lots of people don't like them, but lots of people don't like all sorts of basses. If every time a brand got a bad post the discussion got shut down then they'd be pretty boring discussions. It's good to know the positives and negatives about different basses.
  9. Or....... after the thread on here about John Hall leaving RIC, I think you may have found out what he's running now 🤣
  10. It even looks comfortable to play 😎
  11. Ha ha, that'll teach me to half read posts 😄
  12. I'd imagine those pickups are inspired by the sharksfin neck inlays. Shame that neck is dotted.
  13. I think I have the link between your two from the same builder, maple without front binding. Pickup series switch and thumb rest added 👍
  14. The bar to the left of the R hooks over the piece that's screwed to the bottom with the strap pin, if you loosen the strings you can unhook the tailpiece complete with strings off the bottom bracket. I have seen a few of these break on guitars so am a little concerned, but it's there to be played and without my favourite heavier gauge strings it won't get played. I'm not alleviating your fears, rather confirming I have the same 😁
  15. I use D'Addario half rounds 50-105 on my bass with the classic Rickenbacker 'R' tailpiece, I like high tension strings but I am waiting for the tailpiece to crack at the weak bottom point, it hasn't happened yet though.
  16. Yeah, he's getting a fu©kin' brain next year!
  17. I've just cut one today for a fretless P. Air reciprocating saw a couple of mm bigger than the outline, then a flat and a curved rubbing down block with 80 grit paper, then 120, 180, 320 & 500. I'll scrape the bevel with a single sided razor blade tomorrow and polish the scraped edge with 500 grit. Maybe not conventional but it's the tools I use every day so I'm happiest with.
  18. B/W/B . I actually have a bit of a thing for single ply scratchplates but the white middle of a b/w/b makes the scratchplate stand out nicely against the black lower bout and horn of a sunburst. Unfortunately the options provided in the OP are wrong and not quite so wrong 😁
  19. Although the real answer is 3 ply black.
  20. If it's to get folks out of a spot then strike up a deal with D'Addario, stock a selection of round, flat, half round and tape in their most popular gauges on sale or return and be done with it. Unless you plan on running it as a profit making shop, then stock as many different brands in as many different styles and gauges as possible to cater for the vast preferences of bassists and sell virtually none because they can get their favourites cheaper on the internet, then sell all the stock off cheap because there's just too much money tied up in it for the tiny return and be done with it.
  21. Never ever, under any circumstance should a pearl scratchplate be fitted to anything other than a Hofner. 🙂
  22. I use a Suitcase (older model) with the 4b extension cab for doublebass and I really like it's sound. The suitcase on it's own is only 200 watts (8ohms) and you need to add the 4b to get the full 300 watts (4ohms). All being equal I'd say the Suitcase alone will be better than the Briefcase and worth the extra 'lugging' as I much prefer the sound of the Suitcase plus 4b, it should sound the same tone wise but it's just nicer with the two (and noticeably louder, double the volume of air being moved which is essentially what counts). Soooo if a Suitcase plus 4b (300 watts through 8 drivers) sound nicer than just the Suitcase (200 watts through 4 drivers), the the Suitcase alone should sound better than the Briefcase alone (100 watts through 2 drivers), not to mention louder. The briefcase is not the best to carry, it's not overly heavy, although heavy enough, rather it's just a bit awkward, definitely a two handed job if going more than three feet.
  23. Dirty boy! 😉
  24. Hopefully it'll turn out to be nothing. I really would love an LB30 Drophead, I have absolutely no use for one but would love one all the same.
  25. If you think it would help I'd be happy to give that a go, as long as it was fully funded of course. Maybe the hotel in Antigua where the rehabilitation would take place should have a catchy name like Antigua Support Scheme Inclusive Therapy Care Home, although a bit long it could be abbreviated.
