1.
Almost a Darwin Awards Winner.... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-14403432 "I got all the radioactive material from Ebay... and Germany.
Very funny, but perhaps a subject for Off Topic.
 2.
I have seen Ibanez versions with toaster type PUs also Aria did one - 'Aria Diamond' perhaps it was from that factory? There are many variations on the theme the worst being Hondo II the best perhaps the Ibanez.
The Arias were made by Mat, as were various other importers/distributors brands such as Arbiter, Vorg and CMI (like the one just sold). Ibanez sourced their instruments from Fuji Gen, but that's not to say Ibanez didn't ever fit toasters to any of their 'fakers. The problem is that half the time, whenever the original TRC is missing, the seller claims it's an Ibanez. Probably nothing to do with the fact that the Ibanez brand tends to command a premium.
 3.
I'm sure he's had this on sale before so if you offer him £100 he might take it. It's a pity I didn't know because I've just sold a couple of basses either of which would have been ideal for you.
Yeah, your right. The last auction ended at £100.01 with the reserve not met. I'm guessing the reserve is well above that or he would have offered it to the highest bidder.
 4.
I had an email 'conversation' with the seller, I warned him about my own experiences about the Rickenwaffe and advised him to give a BIN price, I think he might have thought I was trying to pull a fast one. anyway it sold for a lot less than I would've suggested! Funny how some of these reach auction end and others get pulled? You are right it has those Grover type 'wavy' tuners and is probably from the same factory that made the Ibanez bolt on type Rick - I think CMI were an importer's (rebadged) inhouse brand, if you look at the pic the logo is clearly a decal on the headstock rather than the TR cover. Sad to say I missed the last few moments of the auction......
Did Ibanez do a 'faker with a neck toaster and grover copies? The ones I remember started off with the small chrome p/u, moving on to the big mudbucker and finally an accurate looking high gain copy. I think they all had Fender/Rick type tuners as well. Where's Jon when you need him?
 5.
Missed it. Only went for £215
Judging by the tuners that looks to have been a Matsumoku made bass. Someone got a bargain!
 6. They were available on ebay but don't seem to be about now. At the price they were selling for it's likely that the distributors were disposing of remaining stock. It looks like a case of 'once they're gone, they're gone'.
 7.
It does surprise me a little that people are shocked at getting low offers for the items they sell. I think yes it is annoying, however it is the starting point of communication and negotiation, it is an opportunity to sell your item at a mutually acceptable amount. The key is not put your item too cheaply to begin with. In the Uk we seem to shun the bartering and get all offended. Most other countries embrace it, and expect it. Rightly or wrongly, we can all be offended by low offers, my recommendation is to put an opening price and use the low offer as an opening to negotiating a price you are happy with, that way you get what you want and the buyer feels he has made a saving. Win win all round.
+1 Someone's asking a question, that's all. You want the highest price possible, they want the lowest, so some negotiation is to be expected.
 8.
I use a tubeworks blue tube pedal. Very warm real tube overdrive. There's a rack version out there as well. N
I've got the rack version of these, and it does the tones the OP is describing to a T. I've not tried the pedal version but I know it's missing what I consider the killer feature of the rack one - the bias control. This changes the actual character of the distortion, rather than just the amount or tone of it. It's such a useful feature I'm surprised other manufacturers haven't tried the same thing, though I did ask Dave Hall about it a while back and he said that it was difficult to successfully implement. A real shame that the pedal doesn't have the bias control, as racks are such a pain in the ar*e to cart about!
 9.
Worth considering something with a graphite neck, no?

Modulus Sonic Hammer, a Flea Bass or a Status Empathy...graphite necks with phenolic fingerboards.
+1 for the graphite option. I was going to suggest any of the Status Matrix range (of which the headed Empathy was top of the range) but they're not exactly easy to come by.
 10.
Looking at the link you posted and the images, I'd say you have the Drop-D bass. Which, according to the link, is an Ibanez SR900...
The photos are swapped on that page - if you look at the description it says that the SR900 has black hardware. The OP's bass has silver so it's the custom one. Another old Pitchshifter fan here. I'm jealous.
 11. It's an Aria SB700. The SB series are very well regarded and came from a time when Matsumoku were at the top of their game, so I don't think you'll do badly in terms of playability (assuming nothing untoward has happened to it of course). As for price, I haven't the foggiest I'm afraid. I don't doubt that Noel could give you the low down if you give him a PM.
 12. If the pots are original it's not earlier than 1980.
 13. Awesome really isn't the word I'd use to describe it!
 14.
The Made In Japan versions were ... hang on, we've played this game before, haven't we?
More than likely!
 15.
Grolsch bottle washers make the best straplocks ever. The newer ones are more plasticky, the older ones are more rubbery and a bit better. Lidl do them as well as far as I remember.
Ah yes, the vintage Grolsch strap locks - definitely better than the current models. Must be the mojo.
 16. I love a bit of garage. G C Bb C with G C F, G F D in the solo bits. Edit: Search out the Amy release rather than the Transworld version on the Nuggets 2 box set (for example). The bass is a lot clearer on the Amy version.
 17. The Nu Sonic has Beatles associations so it may attract some interest from fans.
 18. Ended already - "no longer available". I wonder if he had it listed elsewhere?
 19.
Ended early, and states no longer for sale!
I wonder if he was made an offer he couldn't refuse or if the former owner came forward? Maybe both!
 20.
Jeez - it's one act out of about 300.
Probably a bit more than that on the Sunday alone. Michael Eavis did a talk at the Southbank last night, and did seem to be genuinely p*issed off that the Wombles were playing. Though, as has already been pointed out, there's always a novelty act every year and they're usually well attended. Each to their own I suppose. Edited to add: I've got agree it's pretty poor slagging an act before they've even played. I thought ME's comment was taken out of context initially, but it would seem not.
 21. Jon (Bassassin) tried one of these at a music fair when they first came out, and AFAIR he wasn't at all impressed. You'd probably be much better off picking up an old JapCrap copy for the same sort of cash. Edit: Here's the link.
 22.
Try upstairs at the Garage Islington. Not totally central but decent sound and decent rates
Is the sound up there OK nowadays? I haven't been since it was refurbished but prior to that it always had terrible bass boom going on. Always a fun place to see a band though.
 23.
I see you all these answers, and raise you... What if your favourite to play isn't necessarily the one that gets the most gig time?
Still keep the one you gig. Presumably there's a good reason why you gig it, and on the assumption that reason isn't about to change any time soon that's the one you should keep.
 24. If you look at a lot of tabs you'll notice that they're almost all wrong, either with just small errors or completely all over the shop. Anyone can post a tab, including the tone deaf with only days of playing experience, and then those tabs are copied by every tab site out there. Use tabs as a guide, but rely on your ears to tell you what's right. (free) or The Amazing Slow Downer are good for slowing things down enough to hear what's going on and looping sections until you can nail it. The reason why not all the players on youtube are playing the same pattern is because the same notes are available on different parts of the neck - for instance, some may choose to use open strings while others prefer not to. There's more than one way to skin a cat!
 25.
just looked at all his pictures and there are none showing the neck profile....
He seems to have some up now, but it's not looking good. His assertion that cheap bridge can be added is a bit misleading as well. Arias like these have the bridge routed into the body, so with most bridges you're likely to see the rout unless it's filled. A better move would be to have the rout deepened a little.
