  1. Preamp valve comparison thread: http://www.finnbass.com/showthread.php?t=22
  2. Let's try it then... Well that works. May be it was just a glitch the other day or didn't like the site I was linking to...
  3. I think I've only tried to link to a picture the once since we got the new forum software, and it wasn't having it at all using the image button. Worked fine using the img tags, but some people aren't au fait with using tags and in any case if the (what is a fairly basic) function exists, it should work [quote name='Dubs' timestamp='1318084182' post='1397941'] ... Works fine for me... [/quote] That's cheating!
  4. It's a pain, isn't it. I had to put the img tags in manually link to a picture. Not exactly the biggest problem in the world but something that's needless when it should work seemlessly.
  5. On a side note, awesome avatar Bubinga5!
  6. [quote name='Geddys nose' timestamp='1317854381' post='1395581'] The bridge looks a little short looking at the photo, perhaps it just the photo. [/quote] I think it's just the light, or rather lack of it, in the photo. The raised bit a the rear of the bridge disappears as it's not catching the light. I don't think this is a fake as the fingerboard is orangey, as on genuine Ricks. 'Fakers all seem to have darker rosewood boards like you see on Fenders. Though that may also be a trick of the light.
  7. I'm not entirely sure it 'should' have had a logo in the first place. My Matrix doesn't have a logo either. You can buy waterslide paper though, and make your own logo with that. I know Jon (Bassassin) has had some trouble with printing out decals without melting the paper, but I'm sure others here could recommend a suitable vendor.
  8. Just tried it myself and it seems to be working ok for me.
  9. There's always this. The Eastwood classic 4. No idea how it plays/sounds - maybe you could let us know.
  10. [quote name='Mudpup' timestamp='1317585906' post='1392157'] Thats the thing - i have found myself playing with a gigging rock covers outfit. Liked the idea of a combo pushing out 200+ watts (Hartke Hydrive 115C maybe) rather than buying an extra cab to get the Trace working a bit more and lugging 2 cabs about. [/quote] You might find any increase in volume from the extra wattage a little disappointing. A doubling of wattage will give you an extra 3dB of volume, but the Ampeg cab is likely to have an efficiency advantage of maybe 1.5dB by virtue of the extra 10". It maybe that the Hartke is noticeably louder but it wouldn't be solely down to the extra wattage.
  11. Could this be a 1115? If so, someone else has had one up for sale recently. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/155898-trace-elliot-combo-1115/
  12. Classic. At least you won't forget it!
  13. You might want to take a look at the mirrored Pickguardian surrounds if you don't get lucky on ebay. http://www.pickguardian.com/pickguardian/RICBridgePUPlate.html Marry it up with a Kent Armstrong toaster and Bob's your uncle. Probably have to do a bit of filling with that mudbucker rout though.
  14. London's not so much about the venue as the promoter - most venues don't do the booking in house and just hire the place out. Unfortunately I'm not very up on promoters doing your type of stuff, but you could try the Wheelbarrow in Camden. I think they're one of the few places that handle their own bookings and might be interested in that type of material.
  15. Looks good. Unfortunately I'd imagine it's going to be closer to £2000 when it hits these shores, when you factor in VAT and import duties.
  16. Depends what you're after really as there's plenty of decent stuff out there for that kind of cash, especially second hand. A Danelectro would be my personal choice (if I didn't have one already) but it really depends what you're hoping to play on it. I tried a Vintage VR100 double cut which really impressed as well. There's also a similar Vintage styled after a LP Jnr Special. You might have guessed I tend to like very basic guitars...
  17. Some basic tools for your van (including a jack that will actually fit under a fully laden van ). A folder with all the contact details of venue/promoter, confirmation of arrival/set up times, method and amount of payment etc, and importantly a print out of maps to the venue. There's a thread on here about the contents of people's gig bags. Might be worth a search.
  18. [quote name='Green Alsatian' timestamp='1317318920' post='1389498'] As long as you don't mention 'Rickenbacker' or '4001/4003' etc in the auction text, you should be okay. Sell it as an Indie IRK, but mention certain bassplayers who've used a Rickenbacker - Lemmy, Paul McCartney, Bruce Foxton, Chris Squire etc. Avoid using the term 'copy' - use 'styled after a famous bass used by...'. With a picture in the gallery (the thumbnail), when people search for basses, they'll see the shape and look at the auction. [/quote] You'd be surprised. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/270-rickenfakers/page__view__findpost__p__1226763 It's a complete lottery whether an Rickenfaker auction will run to completion - some do and others don't, apparently regardless of the use of the 'R' word (though it's got to be said, your chances are better if you don't). Put your phone number or email in the text and encourage people to contact you, or at least keep it for future reference. That way if it gets pulled they'll know how to contact you.
  19. [quote name='edstraker123' timestamp='1317316771' post='1389460'] Anybody know what the issue is with posting these on Ebay. I appreciate Rickenbacker trying to protect their design but surely their argument is with Indie as a manufacturer rather than me as an individual who bought the guitar in good faith from an ebay listing as it happened ! I've had to resort to listing it as a mystery bass but don't know how long it will last until they pull it. [attachment=90434:indie.jpg] [/quote] The Rickenfaker thread over in the ebay links forums has loads of similar tales from BCers and reports of pulled listings, most recently from Ash. You're not breaking any UK laws, but Ebay is an American company and react to any violations of trademarks by pulling the auction. Or they can't be arsed to look into the legalities of the matter and pull it whenever they receive a Vero notification. If you keep listing it, thinking up more ways to avoid it getting pulled, you might be lucky enough to receive a personal email from Jon Hall accusing you of dishonesty and deviousness.
  20. It looks very much like one of those unbranded Chinese made basses that you get on tradetang.com. I say unbranded but very often they come with a Rick TRC, so the one you've got may well be original! I doubt it's an old bass as, with the exception of the rather horrible Kays, they were all more accurate copies than the one on your hands. It might be worth your while PMing Mr Foxen about getting your hands on a more appropriate bridge. Edit: Link to similar bass on tradetang http://www.tradetang.com/for-sale/wholesale-retail-Free-shipping-electric-guitar-Red-pickguard-/104826-2404167.html
  21. [quote name='Prime_BASS' timestamp='1317020825' post='1385429'] It will be twice as loud? Double the speaker double the amount of air. The rh450 will only have to push half as hard to achieve the same loudness as 1 rs210. Your problem isn't really loudness its where you are in relation to hearing the cab. Personally, I either tilt the cab back and try and stand far enough away to hear it, or I have a headphone amp that can use the effects loop or preamp out on head. A little unsightly but if you have to stand right ontop of your amp its not much of a problem. [/quote] Doubling the speakers does move twice the amount of air but your ears work logarithmically, so you don't perceive that as twice as loud. It'll give you an extra 3dB, plus about 2dB from the increased power from the amp. So around 5dB in all - a useful increase in volume. Twice the volume would be an increase of 10dB.
  22. [quote name='Mr. Foxen' timestamp='1316937481' post='1384451'] Hoyer is back: [url="http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Very-rare-vintage-Hoyer-Bass-1970s-vintage-Fender-hardshell-case-/290613490838?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item43a9e9f496"]http://www.ebay.co.u...=item43a9e9f496[/url] [/quote] I wonder if he realises that the case might fetch as much as the bass?
  23. [quote name='Happy Jack' timestamp='1316763577' post='1382414'] Far Canal - that didn't take long. It was a mid-70's Hoyer 5048 similar to [url="http://www.musikkeller.com/mk/index.php?id=hersteller&typ=hoyer"]http://www.musikkell...eller&typ=hoyer[/url] The guy wanted £500 for it, which is way over the top IMHO, but a nice bass nonetheless. [/quote] I don't think I've come across those before. Looks nice, but I'd probably be tempted to stick a more accurate pickguard on there.
  24. [quote name='skankdelvar' timestamp='1316880494' post='1384013'] Funnily enough, I saw his sale first, made the connection with welders and went looking for cheaper. TBH, they're incredibly thin and need gentle handling. When using, it's easier to take them out of the snap-case and hold the file at both ends. Alternatively, superglue them along short lengths of wooden cooking skewer for a handle / support. For B, E and A strings, you'd definitely need to use a Foxen-esque rat-tail file, but these are good for the smaller strings that normal files won't do. [/quote] Yeah, I can't really fault his listing; it's almost painfully honest. Like you I'd have been searching ebay for welder's tools as well. I can't help but think he might be selling a few more if he just said they were intended for maintaining steelworker's tools.
  25. [quote name='Marky L' timestamp='1316805663' post='1383301'] Paul Grey.. a very melodic bass player. An all time bass hero for me [/quote] Something of a hero for me as well (at one point anyway - I'm a bit too old for heroes nowadays) . The weird thing is I used to work at the same company as him and chatted with him quite a bit. And I never twigged it was Paul Grey I was talking to. What a muppet.
