1. Yep, great gig, great songs and great playing. And my girlfriend is still banging on about how cool your bass was. I think she's trying to to give me a case of GAS, which is a turn up for the books.

  3.
So, if someone were to buy an Ashdown Little Giant and hook it up with a nice external pre-amp, the volume issues go away? Truckstop
Apparently, if reports are to be believed. I think the idea is to put the preamp between the send and return sockets.
  4. Great stuff! See you all there!

I wonder if the guy in the guitar shop told him to do that as well?
  6.
Don't Sit Down 'cause I've Moved Your Chair
+1 Seems the obvious choice given the type of material in the rest of the set.
  7.
Perhaps if we were 17 and play originals. But we're all fat, bald guys in our 40s playing bloody Oasis and Kasabian covers to drunks. Perhaps that what I should put
It doesn't really seem to make much difference. Presumably you've wowing audiences from Glasgow to errr... Dumbarton? Why not look at the website from your local paper - I'm sure they'll have plenty of examples up there.
  8. Aren't these things usually along the lines of "local band making huge strides towards pop stardom" and a list of achievements including a 3 week residency at the Dog & Duck, with plans to record an EP? At least that always seems to be the case whenever I've seen one of these articles in a local rag.
  9.
Very strange looking bass labelled "bruno" conqueror. I think this has to be Japanese, doesn't it? 10. I've just looked at one of the auctions he's cancelled, and he's canceling all the bids before ending the auction early. He doesn't seem to know the auctions all about the last few minutes. Having said that, I thought you couldn't cancel an auction in the last 12 hours. If he's thinking about canceling this one he's in for a rude surprise.
  11. I'm in agreement with the other comments here - it's in the ballpark. If Precisions came with an active EQ as standard, they'd probably sound exactly the same.

Fairly rare these, as far as Thunder IA's go.
That didn't last long. Not surprising really. Anyone here bag it?
  13.
Pedant alert! Yes - obviously - but my point was that J Hall will pounce even for using the Rick word (as he said himself in his quoted email) regardless of what it's attached to.
Guilty as charged! Sorry.
  14. As a way of getting to play in front of potential fans, BOTBs are pretty poor. The bands are usually playing massively different genres (although you do get a few genre specific ones) so frankly you're unlikely to convince the fans of a jazz funk outfit that your Doom band is the bee's knees. And because these events don't really attract disinterested punters you'll be playing to hugely partisan crowds. Having said that, if you go in with your eyes open to the realities, why not? I've never played one myself, and there's no way on god's earth that I'd even consider a gig that involves me paying for the privilege.
Can't believe the hypocrisy of Ebay - isn't that where you got it from? - and if they're so red-hot on catching copies how come they let this one go?
I was once shot down in flames - but it was worth it ......... when I pointed out on Rickresource that any JB bass is far superior in built quality than any original Rick. And since JB pioneered the straight thru neck I'm wondering who copied who. http://vintage.catalogs.free.fr/johnbirch.pdf
The catalogue isn't claiming that JB invented the through neck (which he didn't), but the first one piece rock maple through neck. Rick necks are 5 piece laminates.
  16. Damn - only just seen this thread so I'm well late for the party. Laticia always puts on a good night so I would have been there if I'd known about it. Next one at the 12 Bar as well?
  17. She used a Jazz Bass with a pick (a very popular combo at the time). Smiley faces on the EQ were pretty popular at the time too, so it wouldn't surprise me if she follow suit. Having said that, replicating someone else's gear isn't always the best way to emulate their tone. It might not all be in the fingers but a fair bit of it is.
  18.
Very good - not seen anyone attempt that classic fee-dodge for a while. Surprised it's not been pulled already. Jon.
It used to get pulled fairly often. Then ebay changed their T&C's to say that postage had to be reasonable (though some people's definition of reasonable seems to differ from mine). It'll be interesting to see if this makes it to the end and if anyone actually buys it.
  19. You don't need to register your band name as such, but it may help a little in the event of a dispute as it will give you absolute, cast iron proof that you've been using that name from the date it was registered. Having said that, a registered name means jack if it's not being used and a myspace account will achieve the same thing plus keep a record of any gigs you've been doing. It's also for more likely to be searched by other bands looking to see if the name is being used. You can trademark your band name, but it's an expensive business (despite the fact that at first glance it seems cheap - the registration is just the beginning of the process). When bands get into a legal dispute over the band name the courts will look at it's use as an article of trade - how much money a band is making and how much that trade is affected by someone else using that name in a similar field of business. Who was using it first can be of secondary interest, especially when you're looking at an unknown band. When Dirty Pretty Things started up, a band with the same name from the West Country that had been going years were furious and started legal proceedings and initiated trademarking the name. I never followed up what happened in the end, but suffice to say Carl Baret's mob are still using the name. Personally I'd just register the band name with every social networking site out there, register the domain and hope that anyone else that fancies using it has more sense.

But it would have been made in the 90's.
  21.
Sorry if its a stupid question ,but am a bit confused!
In terms of quality absolutely nothing, but it's widely believed that Made in Japan is associated with FujiGen. When Dyna and Tokai began making Japanese Fenders these appeared with Crafted in Japan on them. It's a vaguely interesting footnote in Fender Japan's history, but to the player it makes no discernible difference.

A mate of mine did the opposite with one of his cabs - he painted the Armani logo on it. He thought it was obvious he was being ironic, but he did overhear someone at a gig saying "that flash b**tard's got an Armani cab". (Oh, and +1 on the Gordon Smith. Funny how many of us were looking at that more than the cabs. )
  24. That IS nice. Thanks for sharing!
  25. I've got to admit it's the screwdriver method that I've always read about. The wood's not going to decompress in a hurry, or I wouldn't still have all those little knocks on my necks where I've been a little careless. I definitely wouldn't trust myself with a stanley knife - far too easy to take a bit too much off or leave little nicks in the wood.
