So how can I now show my appreciation for another wonderful Skank post?!? Oh well. Plus ca change... and all that.
I think you just did!

Hi Andy. Jump right in, the water's fine!
I'm surprised at the comments about the Ampeg. On paper the SVT-410HLF looks great and has some fantastic looking specs, looks like the ultimate one cab solution.
Very good for bottom end, but the upper mid is missing. Not necessarily a problem if you don't like to dial in upper mids.

Any idea who made this fruity looking bass?

Defil seems to be the front runner at the moment. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/161019-does-anyone-know-what-this-is/ -
We COULD just set the poll results to whatever we want. Can the real Government do that ?
Only if it has Dame Shirley Porter in it!

Don't Celestion use a different way of measuring Xmax to most other manufacturers? I seem to recall some discussion that multiplying by something like 1.7* gives a figure that could be compared directly to an Eminence driver for instance. *Might be wildly wrong!
Theres a proggy called "amazing slowdowner" which allows looping with independently variable speed and pitch, brilliant bit of kitf or working out stuff. Good for a certain amount of comedy value as well
Yep. There's a windows only freeware program called Best Practice which seems to have been inspired (i.e. a clone right down to the GUI) by the Amazing Slow Downer. I'm a mac user so haven't tried it, but from the screenshots it's the same minus the (very useful) EQ. http://sourceforge.net/projects/bestpractice/
I'll try to rephrase :-) 10 people like the colour red 10 people like red and yellow 10 people don't like red or yellow In this case 20 like red, 10 like yellow and 10 like neither. Make sense?
No, because you're conflating liking red and yellow with liking red alone. I had a black and gold Ducati, which I thought looked really nice, but I detest gold on its own as a colour and would have been mightily p*ssed off had my black and gold bike been delivered as gold only.
Dubious earth path in your bass.
This sounds right to me, possibly caused by reversed polarity in the wiring somewhere. The volume pot would still work, but it wouldn't be shunting the earth to ground when you turn the pot down.

Brave man - he's offering free worldwide shipping. If it stays at that price he better hope the winner doesn't live in Micronesia!
That's all very well but it's the 'frivolity' that lets the personalities 'shine through' and makes BassChat the forum that it is - a community where people pull together to support each other through bad times, a valuable resource for information without becoming dry and dull and a sounding board for new ideas. Take those away and watch BassChat become just another worthless cr*ppy bulletin board...
I'm all for the frivolous, obscure and downright abstract, but I don't think that adding '+1' and absolutely nothing else is really allowing a personality to shine through. Unless we have a lot of members with no personality. I'm sure I remember one of the mods mentioning that the 'Like' button was added in part to cut down on the simple '+ 1' posts. If that was the intention I was really just pointing out that there is another impetus to such posts besides a wish to demonstrate their general agreement.

HELP PLEASE!! Need help in finding good bass amp!
Musky replied to ChrisDaBass1990's topic in Amps and Cabs
For your budget you're best looking secondhand. Peavey TNT's regularly go for far less than your budget, Ashdown MAG's can be had for £200-ish as well. There's a Trace 4x10 combo for £190 in the for sale section which would be a bit of a beast - both in volume and weight! All gigable amps which you could add a second cab to at a later date. -
voted to keep likes. saves +1/hear hear. If you disagree you can debate it below the line.
I think the system was probably implemented with half an eye on the '+1' posts that add nothing else to the thread. However there already is an incentive for these types of post - the post count under the avatars and , more importantly, rewards in the form of little dots and titles (Hyper Elite Member, etc.) or the ability to customise it. If the mods would like to cut down on frivolous posts perhaps we could do away with some of those features.
Indeed, but it would be more informative
But what is it informing anyone of exactly? How easy it is to accidentally click on something close to the scroll bar? I've voted to get rid of the whole kit and caboodle. It's already clear some people are taking the whole thing waaaay too seriously, and aren't even sure what this 'repuatation'* is meant to denote. *Actually, with spelling like that it's no wonder.
move to other room. leave for a few days, then change the truss rod. tighten=straighter (normally)
Exactly this. The neck will often sort itself out with only minor tweaks needed once it's back in a room with decent temperature and humidity levels.

Music shops, interesting places to visit in Ealing/Shepherd's Bush
Musky replied to steve-soar's topic in General Discussion
If you find a decent one let me know! Edit: Just thought, Peter Cooks is just down the road from West Ealing. I haven't been there for donkey's years, but might be worth a look if you're really stuck for something to do. -
Music shops, interesting places to visit in Ealing/Shepherd's Bush
Musky replied to steve-soar's topic in General Discussion
Unless you're particularly into shopping centres Shepherds Bush is a bit of a non-starter. Although there are a few nice old Classic Cafes about on the Goldhawk Road - Zippy's is particularly worth it if you enjoy a cardiac arrest on a plate. -
"Tokai": http://www.ebay.co.u...=item27c05adf3f
That's a new twist. Now the Anniversary's have an tenuous and unproven Tokai connection - they may as well just call it an Ibanez and have done with it.

It looks like his studio set up there rather than what he uses specifically for bass. There are samplers and synth modules in there. Though maybe he's using a midi setup to trigger them. In which case you're right!
Last bass outpost I think it was done a group buy of Non Reverse T-birds from Bach. As you say keeping it below the radar lowers the sales. Although I have found some where that will do Minimum orders of 6 rather than the $5k others are looking. I have no where to keep a 20foot containers worth of fakers they have said they will do a faker to spec but who knows how good or bad they will be
Ah, close but no cigar! Regards the quality of these things, there seems to be a sizeable group who don't seem to care. Someone's buying those Kays and Hondos.
Depends how many really. Do it as a collective, and sell them cell style. I'd be interested in that.
I seem to recall a guitar forum did that with (I think) non-reverse firebirds from (I think) Bach in the Czech Republic. Though they didn't actually sell them on. But it could be worth a punt as long as you don't want to sell through ebay - they'll just shut down the auction as soon as they get notification through their Vero scheme. Although RIC haven't registered their designs as trademarks in the UK, they may be covered by trademark legislation anyway. It's hideously complicated legislation and it would probably only be solved by very expensive litigation. RIC seem to rely on scaring people off, though if you've got balls of steel you could brazen it out. I've a sneaking suspicion the Bass Centre are behind the commission and import of the Rockinbetters, which now seem to have been replaced by the very similar Bass Collections. God knows exactly what that's all about, and there might be a simple explanation, but it might be an attempt to muddy the waters a little. But I would suppose the best bet would be to keep things off the radar, which would inevitably mean lower sales.
