Basses you wouldn't be seen dead with...Number 1

Too right... it's a lefty! -
Its daft really. I'd love one of these copies, and if I had the money to buy a real Rik... I'd spend it on a classic P-Bass... LOL. You'd think they'd be better licensing to a company to make copies or a "budget" version. I wonder how Bass Collection get away with their "Californian" or are they officially licensed?
Probably the same way they got away with calling the Rockingbetters 'Tokai'. If you do a search for registered UK trademarks you'll find that unlike the US they haven't actually registered the designs. They can probably get away with scaring some distributors into pulling the line, but if they're ignored RIC will be looking at significant costs which they'd probably have trouble recouping from some outfits.
look up the thread about SGC Nanyo Bass collection basses- basically the same think. I don't know who invented that shape/style of bass, someone japanese I would guess. Tokai were doing similar in the mid 80's
I think it was the Tune Bass Maniac that first had this style.

Voxs, Ampegs or Ashdowns - Amp suggestions please?
Musky replied to kristinaelias's topic in Amps and Cabs
I just had a look at your other thread, and by the sound of things you're after a big, rounded old school tone. If that's the case I would,'t be looking at one of the smaller practice amps at all. Although you don't need a lot of power, the way these amps are marketed seems to dictate that power goes up along with the cabinet size. And I think you'd prefer the sound of a bigger cab, perhaps with a 15" speaker. -
Unlike some others here I did actually get this a while back. My nephew wanted to take up bass so I pulled out a few of mine for him to choose one to borrow. And then he said it ... "So, let's see what you can do". My mind went blank and I started to noodle some half-hearted Jameson lines - not impressive enough. A brief foray into 'The Real Me' before realising it sounded crap with no drums. No good, I just couldn't think of anything. It felt like a bit of a nightmare, and what I'd imagine stage fright feels like. Never again. So to answer the OP's question - not very much at all!
Posted in here before but thought id mention again...if any 'japcrappers' have any tuners like this knockin round in bits boxes id be very happy to swap them for cash. Its for a project im working on and these are proving a very difficult bit to obtain. http://www.watkinsgu...%20(Medium).jpg http://www.musicreso...tmb/templa1.jpg Need four in a row ones rather than the 2+2
The first ones are Van Gent tuners. There's a couple being sold separately on ebay at the moment, so that would get you half way there. Plus he's spelt Gent with an added 'h' so they might not appear on the radar. The seller has just parted out an old Egmond, and said in the auction that he was going to be listing some of the other parts. So far only these two tuners have appeared, so it's possible he's holding them back for a bit. A bit rich at the BIN price though. You could source a complete Egmond for the price of the set - which I guess is another option you could consider! -
I think that's the same setup
Yep. They've not only got his amp, but nicked his sales pitch. I wonder if it was included in the sale? -

I think the seller means Cornell only made one bass amp model. I was sure I'd seen another for sale and found this - http://basschat.co.uk/topic/7807-denis-cornell-explorer-bass-amp-plus-two-cabs/ -
I've never seen myself playing on video like that, and I'm very worried that after 32+ years of playing I'd find out that I sound just like that kid.
Ditto that! God how I hate it when they solo the bass track in the studio...
Indie: http://www.ebay.co.u...=item4ab06ea9ce
That's disappeared already. Mr. Hall must have a bit of time on his hands today. Actually none of auctions posted on this page seem to have reached completion bar the stealth Probass one, which had no bids at £199. It was relisted but... that's been removed as well. He must have decided to de-cloak!

Just a thought, but is anyone getting hit with import charges for these things? £30 is a total bargain but £50 less so, although still good value.

I really liked that band as well, so cheers for that. It might just be my ears, but I thought the sound in that clip was scooped a bit. You didn't mention what you thought was missing from your sound with the Rat. If it was a bit of bottom end I know SilentFly on here does a mod for Rats. http://www.sfxsound.co.uk/mainpage.asp?page=mods The Jackhammer might be worth a shot - I used to use one of the original Guvnors doing similar stuff to MOTFD and really loved the character of the distortion, but found it lost some of the lows when I stopped using a Rick. No idea how the newer Guvnors fair though. I'm with Sibob on the Boss. Not for me despite persisting with it for ages. Plenty of people love them, though I suspect they might prefer a more aggressive or synthy sound to me.
I would guess this amp isn't very good and wholly unreliable.
Based on... price?

That's definitely not a Fender, 70's or otherwise.

It's not a genuine Marcus Miller though. Is it? -
McNach has sung the praises of Westfields several times. They seem to provide a decent basis for upgrading for not a lot of cash.
Good topic you have here....
Your own site isn't too shoddy either. Edit: I think I've seen some of your posts on the Ibanez Register ( or is it IbanezRules... can't remember).

I had a fair few Peavey cabs in my time and it was all decent kit (bar the Mega Cab - didn't get along with that at all), but the Mk IV and 2x15 I used at a gig definitely fell in the 'love it' category. If it wasn't for the size of the thing I'd be using one right now. I've got a friend who's rebadged his Peavey cab - with the Armani logo. He thought he was being ironic until he overheard another band commenting "That flash git's got an Armani cab".

Ended at £282. I thought it might go for a bit more, but then again it was something of a stealth auction. I wonder if the buyer will try flipping it?
Hi I'm far from expert on the bass (after quite a few years) but play live twice a week with a band. I totally agree with keep it simple - I've seen quite a few technically amazing bass players uterly ruin the overall sound of a band with overplaying! I'm sure I'll get slated here for saying that...... Technique is more important than kit - Concentrate on damping (left and right hand) to create punch and note definition. Playing bass well isn't easy and very different to techniques used compared to guitar playing. Coming from playing guitar to bass I'd recomend a couple of lessons to get the basic techniques down. Welcome Dave
+1 on the damping. I was considering what might actually change when the volume was cranked. It didn't sound like the speaker was crapping out, and damping was the only other thing that came to mind. Turning up the volume does have the effect of making otherwise minor artefacts of your playing irritatingly noticable. Perhaps the OP would like to expand a little on what he meant when he said he found his playing lacked authority at volume?

It's a Matsumoku made Epi 5120, identical to the Aria with the same model number. Basically everything he's saying is correct, though it would never have been anywhere near Kalamazoo. Edit: Just checked the Guitar Dater and it includes this note: "Serial numbers from 70' and 80's era Epiphone guitars made in Japan are not supported. The reason for this is that there is no reliable documentation from this time period."
