1.
Thats nothing, if you're talking about unneccessary holes destroying a fine bass, take a look at the pics this guy has on this ad... 2. The last foto-flame I saw was a cherryburst jazz in a well known purveyor of quality basses quite a few years back. It was very nice, but the previous owner had had it converted to fretless and his right forearm had worn the finish & the flame right through to reveal a creditcard sized patch of very plain anaemic basswood underneath.
3. when I was young I used to like Heinz ravioli. wouldn't eat it now though - I dread to think what that mushy meat filling is actually made of. I love the look of the epiphone, but unless there is a simple way of plugging the f holes I wouldn't consider getting one for gigging unless it was for a low volume/acoustic band
4.
...but then I saw this 'American Special' thing with a 'unique feature' in the form of a new 'slim', fast action neck.
not sure how what would work
5. I have to wonder what the other basses were like if the kay was the best of the bunch. All the kays I had the misfortune to play in the 70s awful planks. I think the necks were made out of old railway sleepers. If you must have one, set up an alert on ebay and an email alert will appear in your inbox before too long.
6. In my experience Badass on a Jazz = Good Badass on a Precision = Not Good
7. James Corden in something funny? I s'pose there's a first time for everything
8. japcrap Yamato jazz copy. bought new from soho soundhouse for £75 late 70s. it was a horrible piece of junk
9. I wouldnt worry about the pickup, but there should be a law against using the later headstock shape with the earlier body . it just ain't natural.
10. No note - I deadened mine by using self adhesive rubber strips under them
11. I got 'em the full set of bridge & pickup cover on two of my Precisions & a pickup cover on the fretless precision and my jazz. I shamelessly stole Jamersons technique of resting my right hand on the cover. Unfortunately that's where the similarity ends.
12. A fantasy version of ishibashi where all the mustangs are at one site.
13. Nick Cave - either with the Bad Seeds or Grinderman Mainstream enough?
14. Something like this, but the with the band instead of marines?
15. When you get there, you have a few drinks and then everyone puts their car keys in a bowl... hang on, forget that - I think I'm getting confused with something else.
16. I wasn't sure if I'd get much use of a 5er, so I got a cheap Peavey Millennium 5 to see whether I took to it. I since bought an NS CR5M & an Epiphone Thunderbird pro-V and sold the peavey. Had I not got on with the extra string I'd have only spent a small amount of money (which I got back when I sold the Peavey), but had I bought a custom 5er and not got on with it, I'd have made a fair old loss. So I'd say why not get a cheap (but decent) 5er such as a Peavey Millennium - secondhand if possible so you'll be able to get what you paid for it back, & see whether you get on with it before spending big bucks.
17. The stock pickups sound good to me on my pro-v - with the eq flat on on the bass & LMII, just tweaking the tone with the amp's VLE & VPF controls. But then again I use flatwounds & probably have cloth ears.

19. in my experience, the Japanese mustangs play much better than the 70s examples I've played - which is why I bought one and why it's my main gigging bass. I love the look of the Gibson, but not the price or feel.
20. Nice bass I also own a (customised) red 2003 Highway 1 jazz. It looks like your tuners have been upgraded as well as you have large 70s style backplates, whereas originally a 2003 Highway 1 would have had standard tuners - the same ones used on mexican jazzes.
