Maybe I'm misremembering, but weren't those flea basses generally regarded as overpriced and disappointing when they first came out?

If a fender sounds thin & lifeless to you, it sounds like you need a wishbass - I’d consider that the opposite of a fender. Alternatively you could try to fatten up your tone with a compressor and/or preamp

I wonder whether he really designed these to be able to use a bass with these fitted as an e-meter for his scientology auditing.

Eastwood Custom Basschat Edition Bass?
Jean-Luc Pickguard replied to NancyJohnson's topic in General Discussion
Nice thread resurrection I wonder whether its worth suggesting one of these as the original manufacturer has no interest in reissuing them -
I can't use clippers as they never cut properly for me. I use the scissors on my swiss army knife. Mine is the cybertool but there are smaller ones with the same scissors.

Fed up with carrying a fretless and fretted bass to a gig?
Jean-Luc Pickguard replied to jazzyvee's topic in Bass Guitars
Or you could bring a set of pliers to the gig so you can play the first set fretted and the second fretless -
I like basses basses that evoke the 60s USA. My current favourites are: Daphne blue JMJ mustang Arctic White Epiphone Thunderbird Vintage Pro Flame Maple Guild Starfire II with biSonics

I can imagine a courier refusing a pickup if insufficent packing has been used, or using it as an excuse to refuse a claim after loss or damage, but I wouldn't expect it to be accepted and then have a fine levied - thats a new one on me.

HOW CAN I INCREASE THE DEPTH OF A NECK POCKET?
Jean-Luc Pickguard replied to thebrig's topic in Repairs and Technical
The first question I would ask is "why does the neck pocket depth need to be deepened?" Is because the action is too high and the bridge saddles don't go low enough? If so you don't need to got to the trouble of incresing the depth of the neck pocket, you only need to add a simple shim to alter the angle the neck sits in the pocket, which will give you the required adjustment at the bridge. -

Woohoo! The replacement bass is here and its all looking good. I've set it up with the flatwounds I previously had on the other one & there's no string buzz. -
Me too My 90s blueburst has an adjustable truss rod - unlike the dead-on which adjusts at the headstock you have to remove (or partially remove) the neck to get at the adjustment nut which is at the body end of the neck like a 60s Fender. The original 50s ones didn't have a truss rod so the dead-on isn't quite dead-on

This is the current state of play for the replacement bass. I will be genuinely surprised if it is delivered tomorrow. -
Before spending any cash I would check that when the band say they prefer the sound of a precision, they don't actually mean that that they like the sound and image of a Fender precison and nothing else will do.

The new one has been dispatched with an estimated delivery date of this Friday - here we go again! The old one has arrived back in Germany so hopefully they'll get it back tomorrow or Friday. -

I had a new guild bass a couple of weeks ago (https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/438065-nbd-tomorrow-hopefully-the-saga-continues/) but it had to go back as there was an issue with the neck. I should be receiving a replacement within a week or so, so hopefully the new one won't have any issues. I'll post some pics when it comes as it is a bit of a looker.

Well this is fun. There was a fair amount of fret buzz on the D & G strings which I wasn't initially too worried about as it seemed like a simple setup should be able to cure it. So over the weekend I tweaked the truss rod to add some relief, and I raised the string height at the bridge but the buzz didn't go away and the only way to minimise it was by setting the bridge so high that it was no fun to play I've now been sent a return label so the bass is going back and a second one has been ordered at the shop which will be sent on to me; hopefully after they've checked it. I have to take it to a post office so I hope I can find one with a parking space outside as the box the bass came in is approximately the size of a box containing a semi-acoustic bass in a hard case. -
Now you mention it I can see the resemblance
