1. For a song like Uprising by Muse I play index and ring but otherwise it depends on what came before & what comes next.
2. I've noticed is that even with the same strings on the same bass, if you lower the action, it feels like the tension is lower.
3. I can read but I've never once had to read anything in a cover band, apart from the fact that the sheet music simply isn't available for a lot of the stuff you'll play, I find it easier to remember stuff if I learn it by ear.
4. Lazy scammers, they just ripped the pics & description from this ebay ad http://www.ebay.co.u...=p2047675.l2557
5. I play everyday, even if it's just 1/2 hour playing along with itunes.
6. You just need a cable like this, just plugs into the headphone port on your pc. http://www.amazon.co.uk/3-5mm-Jack-Phono-Audio-Cable/dp/B000Q6LSWM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1351268828&sr=8-1
7. I've never had a problem with drop D effecting the neck, I'd guess if you're changing the tuning all the time you'll shorted the life of the string. The price of the hipshot d-tuner was enough to put me off buying one, doesn't seem worth it to save the few seconds that it takes to retune.
8. The strings wouldn't bother me so much but the rust on the frets isn't acceptable, I'd have no problems sending it back.
No matter how much you pay for a new bass it should be that...new..
I wonder how many so called new basses are actually new, it seems fairly common for shops to sell what they've got hanging on the walls as new even though they've probably been played hundereds of times.
9. It's hard to tell if some people are joking or if they've completly missed that it's not a bass.
10. I like low tension strings, 40-100 tuned down to dgcf feel great for fingerstyle but are a bit too floppy to play with a pick, I've played basses strung with flats that feel like you're playing metal rods, I guess high tension string just dont suit me.
11. Don't bother, without an amp you'll struggle against one accoustic guitar, using one in a jam session isn't going to work imo.
12. I prefered the VM P over the CV P, I didn't like the finish or the fret sizes on the CV neck.
13. Hartke LH1000 head & HyDrive 810 cab, or more seriously, a small combo amp would be fine, 25w, 12" speaker, will be plenty for home use.
14. Don't know about the metallica stuff but for a lot of drop tuned stuff you'll need to down tune ( or tune the B up ) for the riffs where the bass follows the guitars, where they use the open C, C# etc to pedal off.
15. The only steels I've had issue with fret wear is the rotosound's, no problem with prosteels or the dean markley steels. To me steels sound brighter and keep the brightness longer than nickels.
16. I don't really care if other people notice or not, but I notice & if something sounds better with a pick, I'll use a pick, we played some blink 182 stuff last week which just doesn't sound right with fingers. Although anything really fast or stuff with octaves, arpeggios or lots of string skipping has to be played with fingers regardless to sound, my pick playing isn't good enough to play that stuff.
17.
I do wonder if people playing for free realise how much they spend on gear, rehearsals, transport etc...
Very little compared to what other hobbies cost, for example I started racing an R1 this year, it's probably worked out about £500 a weekend with fees, tyres, petrol etc that's without the 9k the bike cost. In comparrison the last free gig I did was aroud £20 in petrol & £12 for new strings, I've got less than 1k in bass gear, compared to racing bikes it's a very cheap hobby.
18.
When I was playing in a rock band 12yrs ago I used to have the bass below my belt with the bass angled diagonally around 55 degrees. Think Rob Trujillo and you will get the picture! Now I play it just underneath rib cage and the angle of the bass is completely straight (horizontal). I have ditched the cool rock 'n' roll pose in favor of comfort. The older I get the sillier I look trying to be a rock star anyway!
This is a good example of everybody being built different and one position not working for everybody, I've just tried and there's no way I could do 1234 fingering in the lower postions at that hight and angle, my stomach pushes the bass too far outwards.
19.
Style over substance?
Why can't you have both?
20. I've always played with the bass low, the top horn is just below my belly button and it's angled so the headstock is about level with my shoulder, for me I've found that to be the most comfortable position. Other than the angle of the bass, I don't see much difference in the pics either.
21.
wasnt sid vicious taught by lemmy? the white p bass was given to him by lemmy?,rumour was lemmy got that off dee dee ramone?at the end of the day....its all just rock n roll!!
Lemmy TRIED to leach him, http://louderthanwar.com/an-epic-interview-with-lemmy-by-john-robb/
