1. I've done the turn up and play thing but generally just one off gigs with random bands, it's hassle free & good money but I'm not sure I could commit to playing in somebody else's band all the time & give up control over what I play unless I was being paid for each gig & rehearsal.
2. They go back in their cases after soundcheck, when we're playing I use the same Hercules stands I use at home.
3. I do the finger exercises 1234 1324 etc & run through some riffs starting slowly & building up the speed, my hands simply can't go from cold to 16ths at 140+ without a warm up.
4.
It also highlights the pitfalls of doing covers. If that was a song they'd written themselves, you'd probably never have noticed and might have even thought that it was quirky and interesting.
This why I prefer originals, nobody notices when you screw up lol, this would still sound bad even if it was an original song.
5. I take two basses although in different tunings, but if something happened to one of them I could use the other one to play some sort of bass line, I certainly wouldn't want to risk only taking one bass and having something break during the set.
6. Once we start playing I generally don't make mistakes, beforehand is another matter, I've forgotten to turn the wireless on or left it on the wrong channel, picked up the wrong bass for the first song, started the set with the tuner on mute, wrong patch on my B2 so I'm either very loud or very quiet.
7. Plain fingerboards look so much better than stupid blocks or dots, I can't even see them when I'm playing, so what's the point?
8. The rotosounds are really harsh on your fingers and frets, would be nice to know if people are playing with fingers or a pick, from what I've seen people playing only with a pick seem to get much longer string life.
9. I don't have a practice routine, I normally play at least 2 hours a day but I'm pretty much either learning a new song or playing something I already know.
10. Sure you could use any bass for any genre but I think a P bass would suit you much better, P with flatwound strings would give you the low, warm bass sound you want.
11. If I'm not bringing my amp, I don't bring much, when I've brought loads of stuff it just ends up getting borrowed and never returned. 2 basses 4 30' cables (peadalbaord to amp & spares or if the wireless fails) pedalboard I've never bothered bringing strings, I don't break strings & if I did I'd just swap basses, wouldn't have time to change them anyway.
12. I've used EB Power Slinkys 50-110's for D standard and Drop C, no nut or bridge mods needed on my P, just the truss rod & intonation needed tweaking.
13. I used to use a Boss TU3, does what it's meant to do but it seemed pointless having that and a Zoom B2, if I wanted another tuner it would be another TU3. For me that planet wavers tuner wouldn't work live, apart from the fact I'd still need a mute pedal, I don't think I'd be able to see it properly without the tuners getting in the way.
14. Jaco originally only played a fretless live because the strings chewed up the neck, around 2:55 into the video
15. I'm always wanting something new, lately it's been a stereo rig, I don't need one & it would be useless with most of my basses, but, I WANT ONE.
16. I'd definitely have different gear if I didn't play in a band, I'd still have an amp because I don't like playing through headphones but it would be a small 15w amp rather than the 1000w Harke I use now.
17. Sennybridge, the middle of nowhere, crap place to live as a musician but awsome place to live as biker.
18. My understanding with the warranty was that the first 2 years were from the manufacturer and the second 2 years were from DV247 so you'd need to send it back to them after the first 2 years. My Harke rig came from DV247, fast delivery, cab was damaged but they send another one & collected the first when the second was delivered.
19. I've bought loads of stuff from Andertons without a problem unlike GAK.
20. It looks good except for the covers but I expect it will be like the SX's, crap unless you're very lucky and get a good one.
21.
the one in the OP or the one on the for sale forum on here?
tbh both of them a pretty bad imo, I'm not sure you could get either of them to align properly.
22. I've sorted quite a few misaligned Fenders but never one that bad, I can't imagine being able to shift the neck enough to get that lined up and even if you did the pickups wouldn't line it.
