1. I use Cardiff Guitars down the bay or Nobles Music in Whitchurch http://www.cardiffguitars.co.uk/ http://www.noblesmusic.co.uk/
  2. Would this have been posted if it was a guy playing? and the answer is NO.

    Fieldy

I've always like Fieldys playing, there's actually some groove and it makes a change from most metal bands who seem to be in a competition to see who can play the fastest.
I always saw him as more of a percussion player that happened to use a bass. His style is as dependant on muted percussive slapping as it is on actual notes.
Fieldy pretty much said the same thing,
That's the style I play. I'm a drummer. I'm a drummer on bass.
http://gc.guitarcenter.com/interview/fieldy/
  4. I found the quiz harder than actually playing it on the bass, I had to actually think about what the note was rather than just the interval, it's also inspired me to pull out my real book and spend more time practicing sight reading.
  5. Never heard of them, I use http://www.cardiffguitars.co.uk & http://www.noblesmusic.co.uk for the stuff I can't do.
  6.
I don't care what anyone says about Fender; they bounce and Gibson's don't.
The jazz bass I dropped a few years ago didn't bounce very well, fell about 6ft off the stage & landed headstock first, at least Fender parts are cheap.
  7. 4th go, probably could do better with practice but as somebody who doesn't read music that often, I'm happy with that score.
  8. I use Tuxguitar, it's not perfect but it works well enough for transcribing, plus it's free.
  9.
Why buy it then if you know you're not going to keep it? I go to my local music shop "to try" stuff out.
It's hard to tell by playing in a shop how a bass will sound in a band situation, I've bought a few basses that sounded great in the shop, but when it came to playing with the band at gig volume they just got buried under the two guitars & got quickly sold on.
  10.
Rotosound RB40, for me they last as long as any other rounds I've tried & at £12 a pack they're cheap to replace.
Might have to change my mind, fitted 2 new sets today and both e strings have the taper in the wrong place, so the thick part wraps around the tuning post.
  11. I used the neck off a Squier VM Jazz on previous bass, finding a neck proved to be a bit difficult, in the end I bought a used VM Jazz for £150 and parted it out on ebay, I think the neck ended up costing about £50. There's a cheap VM Jazz in the classifieds that would be perfect for a neck swap.
  12. Rotosound RB40, for me they last as long as any other rounds I've tried & at £12 a pack they're cheap to replace.
  13. I don't find it an issue on the B2, if they were too far apart it would be too difficult to hit both of the at once.
  14. Low, the neck plate is at crotch level, I've always felt more comfortable playing with the bass lower. If I was playing all the time with a pick it would have to be a bit higher.
  15.
Why is the answer to go out and buy something? Use sandpaper to rough up the pick.
That always works for me, no need to spend money on silly gadgets.
  16. Assuming we're talking about the new Sub Ray's, I liked the Ray 5 I played, bit neck heavy but no complaints other than that.
  17.
If I had gone to the trouble and expense of writing and recording original material and then found someone passing round copies for free, I'd be a bit miffed, wouldn't you?
I'd be happy that somebody actually wants to listen to our music, in the past we've even given out free cd's at shows to get more people listening to our stuff.
  18.
Not necessarily. If musicians can no longer rely on their music to provide an income then they have to do something else in order to earn money, which in turn means a lot less time for music and consequently a lot less music.
I'm not sure that would be such a bad thing, a lack of money wouldn't stop the real musicians but it would weed out the people only in it for the money.
  19. Anything pointy, BC Rich, Flying V's etc.
  20. Considering a lot of music on youtube is uploaded by the band or record label, I can't see why it's such an issue.
  21. I use spotify most of the time, if I need to learn a cover song that it's there I have no problem using youtube, both are legal so I have no issue with it.
I don't like paying for the fuel to do a trip to the in laws just cos my wife wants to go but I wouldn't steal it.
Why do people say this? it's hardly the same thing.
  22. None of them, I use a rumble 15 for practicing but even on low volume you can still hear it through the house.
  23.
neck is very straight on treble side, and slight bow on bass side.
so the neck is warped?
  24.
You could always download the clip and load it into VLC to slow down the video. Problem is that it'll also change the pitch. If it were me I'd download the audio and load it into Best Practice.
or you can download the video and import it in Audacity, then you can slow it down without changing the pitch.
  25.
If you have your own insecurities I am sorry if you feel bothered by my suggestion but please dont put words in that weren't there.
No insecurities here, I play 4, 5 & 6's, whatever the gig needs
If you read the post you will actually notice that I didnt say it made you better; I just asked that you dont give others grief if they choose to be different.
you just implied it,
Why dont the 4 string army wise up and embrace the future. Just because you cant play a five string dont give other folk grief about it..
that's hardly just asking not to give grief is it? who says they can't play a 5 string?
