  1. I saw a Kinks tribute band( The Konks) a couple of years ago (we were on the same bill at a mini fest in Westerham. He had a '64 reissue with flats on it. It sounded amazing. I chatted with him about it, lovely bloke, great band and fab sound. I would like a Ric with flats, I have a rockinbetter with genuine Ric hi gain pickups, that I used with a Jam tribute but it has rounds on it and will stay with rounds. I love the look of the 4003S and maybe I shall seek one out
  2. I have a similar shoulder/back/ neck problem. Because of lockdown and no gigs my neck/shoulder started feeling much better. I have done a few gigs on guitar in august and september and was ok but last weekend, I went into my Studio / Loft and decided to run through a load of Police stuff, to see if (after nearly 14 years of playing it) I was still playing it properly. I was and I was delighted that I hadn't changed anything BUT my shoulder after about 45 minutes. It's the angle when you put your hand on the neck. It opens the shoulder and it's sore. i have a violin bass and am going to try that this weekend, to see what difference it makes. Not that I could use the Union Jack Hofner violin bass in my Police tribute
  3. Actually, that's stunning
  4. I didnt have to remove the neck on my flea bass, to adjust the TR. I just took the pick guard off and there was enough room to adjust it. Worth a look under the guard I think?
  5. I agree. I always used to listen to rough mixes in the car, because ultimately, that's where I would listen to them
  6. great place to sing, in a car. I do it often when I'm learning stuff. I also used to sing along with stuff I was learning whilst walking the dog!!
  7. Also, with ref to the Sting stuff, I did a Policed gig in March and really struggled. Not match fit, cramp in my picking hand, couldn't hit the highest notes. Fast forward to my next Policed gig, which was in late August (outside). I had lost just over a stone and my voice was back. I had put on a bit of weight (it's because I drink too much) but decided to lose a few pounds. It does make a massive difference, I can't actually believe it but it does. Also, I've become really relaxed with it. It's taken me 30 years to stop stressing at gigs. Time to start........how long is the first set...............everyone ready for the 2nd set..........what time to finish..........song list....etc etc. Now i just don't care about that stuff.. Just get on with it, makes a difference If you're looking forward to the next session, you've got it sussed I reckon. Keep practicing and your voice will strengthen. You can't go to the gym and lift loads of weights etc without some aches and pains
  8. Part of this is confidence. I used to be embarrassed if I had to sing anything to anyone when I wasn't 'on stage'. Not so bad now because I am confident in what I do. But relax, stay hydrated too, try not to eat or drink dairy stuff before you sing as this can affect your voice. I recently had cheese on toast before a gig and it totally messed with my voice/throat
  9. sounds good to me, will we get to hear it when it's done
  10. you're the best person to sing them then, I reckon. Take what tips you can from the producer but put your heart and soul into it
  11. lol, I would've understood that a long time ago. I shall get to measuring on monday about lunchtime
  12. I shall try this stuff out. This is good tips
  13. my wife has one of these, from this era with an ebony board. It is a fantastic guitar GLWTS
  14. yep ok mate thanks It's at work and I'm working from home this week, I'll get it apart at the weekend and yes it's sloped at the top
  15. @Phil Starr time to resurrect this thread how do I measure the volume of a slanted cab? TIA
  16. I have two markbass cabs, paired with my Ashdown RM500 EVO 2. They are both discontinued 'Club' cabs I started with the 1x15, it must be nearly 10 years ago. Ported at the rear, works great against the wall with the porting. I then managed to find the 2x10 cab at a later date. They are very portable and when used together, very very capable. They sound great but the built in horns are rubbish, so I leave them turned down all the time 2x10 weighs in just over 13 kg and the 1x15 is about 15kg. Carry handle on the top which makes them easy to carry, they fit through doorways, I mostly use the 15 with PA support and it's great
  17. I had one of these and was looking on ebay the other day. I certainly don't want another but It's lovely to see one. It was loud enough to keep up
  18. This is so true. My first proper gigging band, I was 18 years old, they were in their early 30s. The guitarist sang all these great harmonies, effortlessly. So I decided to copy what he did into my next band and I got (and still am) into harmonies. When I see bands using great harmonies I usually tell them how great they sound because the average punter doesn't usually realise it. People love encouragement and compliments on the little things
  19. It's an instrument and it needs practice to get right. Good on you for persevering though, it does get easier (monitors really do make a difference)
  20. absolutely I spent 45 minutes running through some stuff yesterday, all in a lower register, then tried the BF song at the end and it felt much more comfortable
  21. that looks older than a '75. Is the intonation screw on the G string longer than the others? If so it could be a '70-'73
