  1. I've tried nickel rounds yes, but can't remember what they were like now, I've been back using Swing Bass for about about 10 years now. I love them when they are new and when they are old and thuddy.
  2. I want to re-use my old cabs, I can sell the vintage 30s and put that towards the new speakers. I'll probably never play guitar using a 4 x12 (My 1 x 12 combo is perfect) and rather than trying to sell them for peanuts, I can re-purpose them, Even if I only use them once in a while
  3. A few moons ago, I set about with a friend, to build lovely valve guitar amps. WKZ we were called. Got a few good reviews and sold a few too. Here's a picture with Phil Hilbourne trying it My woodwork was done in the midlands and the 4x12 cabs were basically old laney cabs. Birch ply, a bit smaller than a classic Marshall cab, loaded with vintage 30s. They sounded fab too. I still have a couple of these cabs lying around and was thinking that maybe, if I changed the drivers to something more bass appropriate, would they make reasonable bass cabs. ( I have the only straight cab made, to make a full stack, all my cabs were angled. I could have a back breaking full stack, like I did when I was young.................stupid..................stronger............wanting to be louder than the guitarist. When I first started gigging on bass I had a Trace Elliot AH150 Mk V thru a brand new marshall 4x12 bass cab. Sometimes my mark bass club 1 x15 just doesnt have enough oomph, on stage. It's rare but I know when I can't get it against a wall, it lacks bottom end (fine in the PA though) Your thoughts please lovely bass chatters Otherwise I'll probably strip the vintage 30s out and sell them singularly
  4. I like the sound of knackered rounds, you know, just before they break. If i could have a set of flats on my P bass (or Jazz) that's what I would like
  5. jazz bass, THIN WEEDY NECKS HONKY BRIDGE P/UP EEEEEAAAAAUUUUWWWWW I love my Fender Flea jazz bass and it's a keeper!!
  6. yep really good, I still wouldn't know what to buy though. I have La Bellas on my hofner, THUD, it goes. Lovely
  7. That's the bass her dad bought her, all those years ago
  8. It helped me date my '73. I thought for years it was a '75, because of the serial number on the neck plate. The original pickup had a messy date stamp that I didnt know if it was '73 or '79. After much googling of images, it was a '73 stamp. But the bridge and the longer screw secured it . There did use to be stamps on the heel of the neck, the 4 digits and then another 4. There was no info available when I bought it in 1990 but after countless gigs, sweating buckets (and I mean buckets) the stamps are gone. (but there is a folded piece of paper in the neck pocket with a message to ring 'Jimmy Page'. So I did. Got a very disgruntled Mr Page on the phone.
  9. on a P bass, yes. I have one. They put the bridge in the wrong place and compensated with a longer screw for the G to intonate
  10. I actually discovered the pre shape only recently, I've resisted because I didn't like the trace pre shape. But i pressed it at the last gig and the result was fab. Sadly I have no gigs booked in which I play bass at the moment. Maybe one day........................
  11. yep I have the rm500 evo II, love it.
  12. I had the Sting signature bass. It was a lovely instrument. No one ever commented on it being the Sting bass. Most people dont care. I also had the Steve Harris WHUFC bass. I'm a hammers fan and I was a big Maiden fan when I was younger. I used the WHUFC bass on 3 gigs. It was too heavy for my poor old shoulders/neck and back. It sounded wonderful and had a fantastic neck on it, again no one seemed to care. I then read, on here, that I might get grief from some pi55ed up football fans, which I hadn't thought of and it made me not really want to gig it. I sold it, I wish I had kept the neck and made a parts bass, maybe a PJ of some description.
  13. I don't do spotify. Not for any reason, perhaps I'll have a look
  14. Fab amp and a steal at this price

  17. yep I totally agree. I would buy the Toy Matinee album but can't find it at a reasonable price. AND he has made me want to practice and improve, something I haven't done for many years
  18. I bought this Flea bass when they first came out. I ordered it 4 years ago tomorrow. I gigged it probably 70 odd times, the finish started to wear where I rest my forearm. It now sits in the office and I occasionally pick it up, have a noodle and put it back. Sell it, I thought.........................nah, can't be bothered I've just sen someone looking for one in items wanted, couldn't be easier I got it out and had a noodle....................nah, not for sale, what a superb bass picture just because!!
  19. Jessie's Girl Rick Springfield Stand and Deliver....Adam and the Ants Poison Arrow......ABC You spin me round.....Dead or Alive (this goes down a storm) Just can't get enough....Depeche Mode Down Under.......Men at Work A little respect....Erasure Electric Dreams...Georgio Moroder Kids in America.....Kim Wilde Relax and Two tribes....Frankie Everybody wants to rule the world..Tears for Fears These are all great songs
  20. I had one fitted to a manson explorer. Never used it. It was already fitted to the bass when I bought it. In hindsight, I should have removed it and sold it!!
  21. yep I totally agree. I would buy the Toy Matinee album but can't find it at a reasonable price. AND he has made me want to practice and improve, something I haven't done for many years
  22. I have the JTV-59, les paul alike variax. The modelled sounds are indeed, very impressive. It used to be my no.1 guitar in a band when I was switching between acoustic and electric a lot GLWTS
