Crimson Guitars courses in Dorset
police squad replied to police squad's topic in General Discussion
this is one of the reasons that I went I would recomend it -
I recently sent 2 basses to Andy Baxter. The 1982 P bass special sold before I even saw it on his site. So the right outlets are still selling well BC is more limited in sales I think, as it;s probably not so well known by the general public

I'm on a course to learn to refret and fret level and general setting up of guitars and basses it's 3 days long I've refretted a squier strat and fret levelled a couple of my basses including a Harley Benton PB50 One of my bitsa P basses didn't need doing but one has been quite a problem as the neck won't truss dead straight (this is fairly common apparently) Final fret polish and set up this morning, so we'll see how it turns out It's been great. I've learned a lot of things but also talking to and watching the other students with their instruments and problems They do full build courses and all sorts My luthier is in his 70s and is retiring so I wanted to know how to fret level just in case I need to I might go back for a custom build course (apparently a lot of people do)

I fancy a 4 string like this. But I'd probably not use it enough to justify the expense

I have a 4003 by HW in black. It is awesome. I'm going to get another one this time in White wth checkered binding. It sounds exactly like it should
-
This with knobs on
-
they are totally different beasts. I'm a P bass man but have a 4003 for the Jam tribute I'm in. It won't sound like a P bass in many respects. As someone has said, both pickups on but roll the neck pickup back to about 3/4. That will give you the sound But flats will change it again. I saw a Kinks tribute and he had flats on and it sounded amazing
-
nice score they sound great with flats

yep, it happens I had a Policed gig at a rugby club fun day. They all got plastered and went home, promising to return Organiser offered us the full fee and to go home. We agreed to do the first set and see if any of them come back. They didn't, so we gave it our all for the bar staff. And more recently a St. Patrick's day beer fest in Derby this year.# with The U2 Tribe boys You'd think U2 / St paddy's day were a good match It was a repurposed warehouse and freezing cold and it was rammed with people We were due to start at 8.30. I counted 23 people left but we did the whole set (they said to stop after an hour) but it was my 2nd or 3rd gig and I need the runthrough Got paid 400 quid each though

Wireless Distorting with High Output Basses
police squad replied to King Tut's topic in Accessories and Misc
I was going to use my WS-50 at a U2 Tribe gig but it sounded weird with my Warwick Reverso, so went back to a lead It sounds excellent with 6 stringers in my 80s thing I was going to buy a Shure GLXD16+. I was hoping to get a 2nd hand one but will go for a new one, interest free fairly soon -
I sound similar through both my amps mid shape selected, treble boosted a bit for some snap and bass boosted a little and a little grind on the sound too Sound man at a gig I did a couple of years ago complimented my sound during soundcheck When I joined the U2 Tribe (we The Policed were supporting them one night) they all said how they liked my bass sound

Mr Hall now resides in the UK and he has HW's phone number. I know this because I have met HW and bought a bass from him very recently
-
the purists are moaning that it isn't the correct neck shape but I love mine and it does sound really good. I love the neck shape too I changed the pickups in 2 of the others and the volume pot (the original is 500k and it should be nearer 250k and they both sound much more May like My forth one is signed by Brian and hangs on the wall
-
strangely I actually have more guitars than basses, strange considering bass is my first instrument but I also suppose they are mostly P basses or derivatives (apart from the HW4403) I've got 4 Brian May guitars!

I had tickets to that Nik and Go West thing but ended up not going as I was feeling a bit lazy and stayed at home (dreadful behaviour I know)
