  1. I sound similar through both my amps mid shape selected, treble boosted a bit for some snap and bass boosted a little and a little grind on the sound too Sound man at a gig I did a couple of years ago complimented my sound during soundcheck When I joined the U2 Tribe (we The Policed were supporting them one night) they all said how they liked my bass sound
  2. head over to Facebook page Rickenfakers. There's normally stuff on there
  3. are all Warwicks the wrong way then? I'm sure both my adam clayton basses are normal
  4. +1 for Tonerider pickups. I have one in my Adam Clayton bitsa P bass. Sounds absolutely as it should
  5. a nice shell pink over paisley there too
  6. Mr Hall now resides in the UK and he has HW's phone number. I know this because I have met HW and bought a bass from him very recently
  7. the purists are moaning that it isn't the correct neck shape but I love mine and it does sound really good. I love the neck shape too I changed the pickups in 2 of the others and the volume pot (the original is 500k and it should be nearer 250k and they both sound much more May like My forth one is signed by Brian and hangs on the wall
  8. strangely I actually have more guitars than basses, strange considering bass is my first instrument but I also suppose they are mostly P basses or derivatives (apart from the HW4403) I've got 4 Brian May guitars!
  9. I had tickets to that Nik and Go West thing but ended up not going as I was feeling a bit lazy and stayed at home (dreadful behaviour I know)
  10. I always introduce it as a song written by Nik Kershaw we also do Wouldn't it be good both great songs
  11. My duo do Gangsters by the Specials '79 I don't like Mondays '79 The one and only Chesney Hawkes '91 IIRC a little artistic licence lol
  12. our drums are on the backing tracks, since the drummer left but before then it was mostly live,a few cheats to augment the sound BVs etc
  13. to be honest I'd never thought about Rick Astely best selling song of 1987. We are looking to add some new stuff to the duo set but not sure what yet Paul Young (early 80s again)
  14. The band version of my 80s duo set is as follows Footloose Power of Love (Huey Lewis) Addicetd to Love You spin me round Jessie's Girl Every Breath you take Maneater Roseanna Eye of the tiger Take on Me Through the Barricades Together in Electric Dreams 2nd set Karma Chameleon Rio I'm still standing Wake me up before you go go I'm your man Don't forget about me (simple minds) Give it up (KC and the sunshine band) Rebel Yell Summer of 69 Respect (Erasure) Vienna Never gonna give you up Everybody wants to rule the world Relax Two Tribes Come on Eileen the duo has all of the above but we have a total of just over 100 songs The ABC songs Some Depeche mode, more Wham!, Yazoo stuff, Kim Wilde, Adam and the ants, Genesis songs (Turn it on again and Invisible touch) It Bites, Kraftwork, Men without hats, Spandau Ballet, more Duran Duran stuff, Guns n Roses, Bon Jovi (we can rock it up if needs be) There really are some cracking songs from the 80s, in all genres
  15. Here's a picture taken at an 80s gig I do We're called Miami Vice Reloaded
  16. sounds cool, let's hope the prefered singer has the chops and attitude. Sax is cool (as Matt Smith's Dr would say)
  17. I had the same xl2 that @three owned. I gigged it a few times in my Police tribute Amazing tone. Very fundamental. Thick sound. Unique. It was a transitional one, plug in leg rest etc. It felt heavy but that was because it looked small Didn't like the strap hanger plate. The strap made me feel all trussed up
  18. there's only 4 songs on that list that I haven't played but whether I could get away with them now............... The Wham! song has a great bassline but I've only ever sung it, so have no idea how to play it
  19. agreed mate
  20. some annoying key changes in that set but it's a good list of crowd pleasers As a Police fan, message in a bottle in b flat minor, is even lower than Sting does it now (which is in b minor and sounds all wrong)
  21. 2 years ago I found myself depping the whole summer for @spongebob whilst he recovered from an eye operation Ska/Mod/punk/new wave but the dress code was polo shirts. I didnt have any but off to Primark and I bought several, all in different colours. Two gigs I had to wear a Mod style suit and tie (and again with them last week) It was fun to be dressed totally different from normal and to fit in with guys in the band Every gig they would throw new songs (to me) in and I learned them all
  22. I've depped regularly and i used to be really good at remembering songs with no cheat sheets I learned 30 songs by The Jam for a dep many years ago, I had 2 weeks to do it but the shortest notice was for a band I'd done a few deps for but I got a call whilst eating my roast dinner abiut 6 pm. 'help, our bass player's car wont start and he's not coming. ' It was a 6.30 start, gig was 15 minutes away these days, i do use cheat sheets, especially when I dep with ska/mod/new wave/punk chaps, as they always ask me to learn something I haven't played before it's all usually great fun But as others have said, turn up in good time, make sure your gear works, look good, don't be a tw@t and you should be good to go
