Tried listening to Adele today.........
police squad replied to Beedster's topic in General Discussion
She has a truly exceptional voice, great songs too -
My trusty '73 P bass, the pickup went open circuit and I had very little volume. I cranked everything right up and got some kind of sound that finished the gig This was 20 years ago, I always carry a spare bass now
-
I have Labella on my contempory. They sound superb but I cant remember their gauge 50 to 100 gauge in fact. They are quite stiff but I did a gig tuned to E flat and they worked really well
-
great basses these. I've had two, shouldn't have sold either of them

A quick update to this story I didn't get the gig but I did get to sing and Dance with Jay and Cheryl from Bucks Fizz (The Fizz as they are called now) I made the final 15 of which one is already a 90s boy band star (but I don't know who) I though I did ok. My vocals were spot on and the dancing passable back to normality for me now- 141 replies

I liked his bass sound but I dont like hearing all those songs in the wrong key. They loose something but I also appreciate how hard they are to sing in the original key band was great as was his bass playing -
ignition is hollow contemporary has centre block
-
for me, the ignition pickups are the wrong shape. Also the neck joint is different.
-
probably, a bit. But it still sounds like a good hoffy. probably has more sustain and is more feedback resistant but I dont play at that kind of volume for that to be any problem. If it was me and I could afford it, I'd go contemporary for the German pickups etc. I'm actually on my 2nd contemporary. My first didnt get much use and had the rubbish roundwounds on it from new. My 2nd went straight to La Bellas and apart from being a touch high tension, they're great. I'll try Pyramids on the '64 when I'm ready to
-
I have one with the centre block. It's lovely. I also have one from 1964, guess what? It's lovely too. I havent tried the ignition but I've heard a few and they sound great. Different construction from the German ones but probably a good introduction. I like my'64 because it weighs nothing but not yet gigged with it. My contempory has La Bella deep talking bass flats on it. Makes a good thump

I'm not sure I've ever been this angry before

my first Police tribute turned up to play a counci organised gig in Folkestone. Was there watching the first band (the bloke with the light up guitars from BGT) they were on for over an hour. Then we find out that 2 different people had booked the bands, so there were twice as many bands as advertised. I had to say, if we don't go on next, I'm out of here. We went on onlt to have our set cut because the council leader wanted to come on stage and talk about stuff. That was the last thing like that I ever did. Must be 15 years ago now. I pretty much only do gigs that I've arranged now (unless I pass the audition for the (un named) group that I've spoken about in another thread -
-
I gig a PB50 in my Police tribute band It's a really good bass, I rolled the fingerboard edges and I don't like the tuners. They hold tune perfectly but don't feel very nice. I have a set of northeast guitar parts to put on but haven't done it yet. It really is unbelievable for the money

agreed, old age is a privilege (I lost my brother before he was 50) and I'm looking forward to it. I hope I get the gig on merit and not just being the 'best of a bad bunch' (I'm working on a song called that lol) -

audition is in a couple of weeks, then I'm away in Italy to see my mum. I'm so hoping to hear when I'm with my mum. -

yes I do want the gig. I'll let everyone know if I get it -
my 2 SBR-150s were amazing. I sold my 2nd one just before lockdown. It was too heavy for my ageing back/neck and shoulders But awesome. I'd love another

I have no problem with relics, I've had a few but those dont look great. I think they're the nash ones in bass direct i saw some fairly horrible nash ones in Denmark street, probably 10 years ago
-
I'm not going to see them, but if it's on the telly I'll defo be watching. They wrote and plagerised some really good tunes and I have the first 4 albums
