1.
The most common scale on Ritter 4's seems to be 33.3" - all three of mine are this scale.
All three of yours??? Do you run an international drug cartel or something?
2. I would pay good money to see

Tum Jones
Fatwood Mac
The Grateful Fed
Bruce Springrolls
Tom Pudgy and the Heart Bypasses
Iron Weighed In
Double Cream
3. David Bowie's earliest stuff. The album with Rubber Band and Maid of Bond Street. Love it.
4. Fantastic. If I could still pull off the Lycra leggings and the long hair, I'd have that.
5. I'll say this very carefully as one of the people concerned is a member here. I have recently joined a great band. Good tunes, nice blokes, regular gigs, etc. However, the departing bass player is leaving in January and, as I was auditioned and up to speed promptly, he has said that he would play rhythm guitar so I could start sooner. Fine, very generous and thank you. We had a rehearsal this morning and neither guitarist was prepared to modify their sound so we had twice the guitar noise and the balance was way off, only my E and B string could be heard and the vocals were buried in the bottom of the mix. I have suggested that maybe I won't start until January after all. Guitarists.....grrr.
6. I understand that the book is, and I haven't read it, similar to Malcolm Gladwell's "Outliers" which argues (very persuasively) that no one ever makes it purely on their own. He says that innate talent is a very small part of success and circumstance surrounding birth, timing, family and opportunity are much more important. It is a cracking good read, too.
7. This problem took me a few goes to figure out. The instructions could be a little clearer.
8. Wham, "Make It Big." I have been widely ridiculed for this choice since I bought it in 1984, but I still love it and reckon that there isn't a duff track on the album. It sold about 10 million copies, so I can't be alone in owning it but I think everyone else denies it! I think they were unfairly dismissed as Pretty Boy Pop by the musical fraternity and they always had a pretty decent band with them. If nothing else, the (not on this album) Club Tropicana bass line is fearsome.
9. Most likely to be considered greatest in 20 years' time: Wolstenholme and Howard.
10. I'm also disturbed by the word "distributer" [sic] as opposed to "distributor" and the curious way he drifts from the past to the present tense in the same sentence. As a rule, I don't buy things from people who mangle their English. The odd typo is okay, but this reads like a Nigerian phishing email.
11. You could buy two high spec second-hand Yamaha RBX basses for £311. Or you could buy one bastardised lump of crap.
12. There is nothing quite like having lots of headroom. While an Ampeg sounds great, I've gone a modern headroom route and have 2 Vanderkley 4x10s and a Vanderkley Aurora head. The sound is very modern and enormously powerful and responsive. It isn't smothered by guitarists and can be heard in all venues I play in. The cabs are nice and light - as is my wallet!
13. I think that it is an inherited behaviour. In pre amplification days, bands would hammer their instruments to get heard (trumpeters, notwithstanding) and then when amplification came in, it was a bit reedy sounding so everything was as loud as it could be. Then, when amplification got good enough for stadium bands, us lesser mortals started copying our heroes. I can't give you a reference for it, but I am sure that, in their early days, Dire Straits made a point of playing quietly enough so that people could still speak to each other and they got a LOT of bookings because of it. The pubs and clubs really appreciated it because more people came to see them as a result.
14. I owned one many years ago and, I confess, I found it very difficult to get on with. Mostly, I suspect, down to my inability to figure out the correct signal chains for what I needed. Good luck, though, as most people rate it highly.
15. I have a TC Electronics Flashback x4. It might be a bit OTT size-wise, but it will do everything that you want.
16. Can anyone be considered a poor player if they have been doing it professionally for decades? I remember whatshername from the Pixies saying that the hardest thing for a bassist to do is to consistently play root notes on the beat and not to put any runs or fills in or any big endings.
17. I used to own one of these. Loads of power and a great tone.
18. £311 is easily £250 more than it is worth.
19. Hi Tony, They do fold down to very thin and about a foot high. I used small stands at first and as soon as I got a "proper" bass, it toppled over because it was too unstable. Whatever you go for, make sure that it holds the neck and you'll be fine.
20. Merry Christmas Everybody is such a fun bass line.
21. Bought a line 6 unit from Chris. Swift delivery, beautifully wrapped and packaged. Item exactly as described. Very happy.
22. I would strongly recommend one of these: http://www.herculesstands.co.uk/p/auto-grab-guitar-stand-with-foldable-yoke?pp=24 I've used one for years and all basses of shapes have been kept safe in it.
23. Godspell caused me lots of trouble. It was a long time ago so I don't really remember but I think that there were lots of odd timing changes.
