1. It's like old cars. A great many of them are rare and considered valuable as a result. But in an objective sense, it is very hard to find an old car that performs its function as a car better than a modern one.
2. There are some lovely basses (and playing) on that. My favourite was the rapey-terrorist version of Ronald MacDonald at the end. Just because he/she/it is a good player who shows no restraint at all and just goes for it. Something I would do if I were less inhibited.
3. What we want to know, Jack, is how have you aged in comparison. Are you also mostly rust or have you weathered better?
4. I think that it looks rather lovely. DSFDF as always.
5. I don't like to boast (of course I do!) but I play with an excellent drummer who plays quietly or loudly as required and has a good singing voice into the bargain. The man is a treasure.
6. I love the bit where he says that he will post it.
7. If money no object, I would pay Vanderkley to make a ultra powerful combo and then I would have two of them so I could do the twin amp thing.
8. Ooh. Nostalgia! I had a head virtually identical to this (I think) in the early 1990s.
9. That is pretty cheap. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
10. Ah - it has already been changed. When I reported and posted it, it read "Vintage Fender Bass".
11. Re Yellow Mellow: if we are going with the drug theme, what does "I'm just mad about 14 / She's mad about me." mean?
12. I've bought a couple of basses this year and sold a couple of pedals.
13. There is no legitimate reason for putting the word Fender in the title unless he is hoping to trick a non-initiate into buying what they think is a Fender.
14.
Chip Van Morrison
Classic!
15. Against all the odds, I have still never played this live.
16. I reported this guy for attempting to pass off a Vintage Bass as a Vintage Fender Bass which is very different. He is quite devious and probably doesn't actually break the law, but as the asking price is vastly more than the new price, he is definitely pushing his luck. 17. This is kind of cool http://www.preloved.co.uk/adverts/show/114012804/stand-up-skiffle-bass-guitar.html
18. And the thread started off saying, not so much about song lyrics, but about songs with swearing in, etc. but were still on mainstream radio playlists.
19. Apparently the Captain Pugwash thing is largely urban myth. It is said that there is a character Master Mate which, if could be misheard as Master Bate if you want to hear it thus. Roger the Cabin Boy and Seaman Stains are apparently total fabrication.
20.
I never think too much about lyrics.
I'm the exact opposite. I'm much more interested in the lyrics than the bass line (unless it is something with meaningless lyrics such as most RHCP songs.) This is possibly why Billy Bragg is my all-time favourite performer.
21.
Always amazed that Walk On The Wild Side made it on to daytime radio.
Good point. That song is barely even a single entendre, let alone double.
22. The more of these dodgy songs that come up, the I think the police should spend less time with DJs and more time with singers. The DJs were probably brainwashed by playing the songs all the time! Which reminds me: My Sharona: I always get it up for the touch of the younger kind. WRONG WRONG WRONG
23. There are some songs that, if you listen to the lyrics, really shouldn't be played pre-watershed. A good example is Unbelievable by EMF - saying F*** Yellow Mellow by Donovan - widely considered to be advocating underage sex. Any others?
