  1. I bought a TC Electronics bc250 210 (here http://www.tcelectronic.com/bg250-family/ ) which cost £350. It has stacks of volume, a lovely sound, a built in tuner, aux in and headphone out, and downloadable / programmable Toneprint wizardry which serves as effect pedals. I honestly think that you couldn't do better as a newish bassist. I only wish such combos were around when I started playing.
  2. I've just listened to your Rik Mayall song. Truly inspired - an awesome tune!
  3. I bought the Pedaltrain 1450 powerpack. It isn't cheap but it can be configured in lots of different ways to suit different voltage or mA requirements.
  4. Ooh - Gail Ann Dorsey. I've had a major crush on her for the last 20 years! Mmmm.
  5. I bought a TC electronics 250 bass combo which has a lovely full sound, a headphone socket which also sounds great and a built in tuner. Basically it does everything.
  6. For my first 25 or so years of bass playing I only ever had one bass at a time and never felt as though I needed more. I recently bought a second but as I split my time between two homes, it makes sense to have a bass in each.
  7. Steve Harris's bass sound around the Tim of Seventh Son. Especially at Monsters of Rock 88. Its not a sound that would be appropriate in many scenarios but to me it complements the IM sound perfectly. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ikOER7cEDGI
  8. I THINK this will work but am by no means an expert. I once depped with a band for a couple of gigs and they didn't use amps at all but had a PA arrangement that is more or less what you describe. The sound was lovely and clear on stage, too.
  9. I thought a feeler was a creepy guy on the Underground. That what the police call me, anyway.
  10. I have recently bought my first 6 string which has been a real eye opener for me as it has encouraged me to play my 5 in more diverse ways especially in making better use of the g string.
  11. Right, I'm off to write an Automatic Random Avatar Creator program!
  12. I have the new (ish) Shure GLXD-16 system which has never interfered with anything else, is in a rugged metal case and has a rechargeable lithium ion battery with 16 hours of playing time and can be recharged from a plug or USB. I love it.
  13. I used to have a GT8B which had excellent sounds, so I imagine the 10B will be as least as good. I did find the screen too small and thus organising signal chains was fiddly, though.
  14. I started off with a Junior when I tidied my board up a couple of years ago. I would recommend getting something a little larger than you need so you can keep it tidy and/or have expansion room in case your pedals have babies.
  15. I've been a committed 5 stringer since the early 90s. I started because it was convenient when bands changed the key of songs at short notice and then found that I liked the flexibility, especially with chord shapes. My first was a Hohner which was light and easy but the strings were awkwardly close so I moved to a Yamaha TRB II V which was wonderful but heavy. My current is a Dingwall Prima Artist which is, for me, perfect.
  16. I agree wholeheartedly with this re amps/cabs and up to a point re cables. I always buy "good, solid" cables but I won't spent much more than £20, certainly not £60 - £70 for a lead.
  17. Along with many others, I use the ACS / Elacin plugs and they are perfect for me.
  18. I've never used a Proton, sorry. I don't use the send/return jacks, either. It sits in my pedalboard near the end of the chain.
  19. I have recently seen several rigs with LEDs on them on this site and was motivated to tart up my new speakers. I used RGB LED tape from LED-Lighthouse which I fixed to the inside of the speaker grille. The stickyback tape was useless and was glue so I eventually went with Blu-tac which worked perfectly. I was a bit nervous about drilling through the cab for the power cables so I clipped a hole in the mesh next to the Vanderkley logo and fed the cable round the side. I'm tempted to do something to the amp head as well, but am not sure what. After all, I don't want it to look tacky..... Anyone else got any pics to share?
  20. I have a Wonderlove and love it. Also there is a detailed review of it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pZgvQjC93tw It is in a language I don't speak but it is so detailed and clear, the words aren't too important.
  21. Most of my pedals are bass specific but some (Sonuus Wahoo, TC looper, MXR phaser) aren't. Those three seem to work fine with my bass.
  22. I cheat and use a Darkglass Duality Fuzz. When that isn't appropriate, I use a Boss ODB 3 with the distortion up high but the distorted signal down low and the clean signal up high.
  23. If you have the time and inclination to experiment you could try the Sonuus Wahoo (much, much more than a wah wah) and/or TC Electronics Tailback delay/looper.
  24. I don't mind the ads with age restrictions on them because at least the band are being upfront about their requirements and are therefore not wasting applicants' time.
